AmyismagicAlso for AuntiesI was so touched by the recent episode about building community for your family (E#543). Being a “trusted auntie” in kid’s lives is so rewarding, and this podcast never fails to give me insight on how to better communicate and be present for the teens and tweens who are in my village. Thank you Casey!

TwirlfishI am the holidayPreparing for the flight back home to the childhood family home and needed some ear candy for the plane ride. And boy was the podcast that just dropped perfect for me. I just had a lovely lunch with mom, older bro, and childhood friend. Today’s lunch helped me embodied a cherished idea I took away from the podcast that I listened to yesterday. “You are the holiday. You are the season. Your presence is the present.” 🥰 Thanks Casey! That idea helped me to put away all of the “suppose to” and just enjoy my self in the presence of the family. Perfect!

caralavelleLike chatting with an old friendI just love listening to Casey’s down to earth approach to parenting our teens. She brings humor and grace to difficult topics, and frames things that seem daunting in ways that are accessible and practical. I’ve shared your podcast with many friends. Thanks so much for helping me continue to grow with my kid!

Mari StevensEveryone needs thisI wish every human could hear this. It is so defeating when people who love you push into your pain with advice.

Robinchap1Just listen!!!! Trust me!This podcast resonates with me SO MUCH. Casey is real and down to earth. She makes me feel like it’s all normal (the teenage rollercoaster of things) AND that I can step off the rollercoaster myself, put my feet on the ground and try words and strategies to shift the dynamic when it needs shifting in my house. This is SO USEFUL. I find myself quoting her all the time! And I’ve purchased and read several books based on recommendations and author interviews I’ve heard here. Sometimes I listen as episodes come out, sometimes I scroll the list for a topic I’m struggling with currently and I almost always find an episode that fits and when I do, it’s ALWAYS useful. And sometimes when I’m casually listening to an episode I don’t think will relate to me- I’m wrong and it does in a way I didn’t expect.

EmmyJane33So Good!Having Casey’s voice to guide me through parenting my teen is such a blessing. She is real and speaks from the heart. She gives practical, tactical support and advice to ensure I feel less alone on the parenting journey.

gtfredeffgMaking a differenceCasey shows up every week in the sticky muck of raising teens. For me, I believe in positive discipline but struggle to get there. She takes my progress in fits and starts down the path of positive discipline and keeps me striving for a positive relationship with my son. Thank you Casey

BWArizonaPractical and EncouragingCasey is a breath of fresh air for me when it comes to parenting my teenagers - I find her demeanor to be relatable and also so confidently kind and helpful. She has a way of being so authentic and I love that she will often model what the language might sound like when actually talking to your teens. I get something out of every show and appreciate her ways of helping me see what it looks and sounds like to prioritize the relationship with my teens. I think it also helps that she is in the trenches, just like the rest of us! So grateful for all that Casey shares and that this podcast is available to help me along the way. Thank you!

brentwoodmomAuthentic and Real.Joyful Courage has quickly become one of my favorite parenting podcasts. I was struggling with a teen who was struggling. Casey breaks down so many topics into bite sized pieces making it less overwhelming for someone in crisis. It seems like whatever she says resonates with me the first time. I love how Casey presents herself as authentic, compassionate, real, and optimistic. I love her energy and humor, it's contagious. I love that she has the ability to articulate analogies that make listening and learning enjoyable for each and every episode. No judgement on her part either. Lastly, I love how she often gives a script to help with having these difficult conversations with our teens while maintaining connection. I find myself opening notes on my phone & quickly typing up a script that I try to memorize so that I don't fumble so much when a situation presents itself. My only question is, why does Apple Podcasts rate this podcast as explicit!!??

TRobbierobOpening UpRecently I’ve been struggling with my stepson (16). He’s not focused in school, not cleaning up around the house, just not being the responsible kid that I know he can be. However, I’ve learned (through experience) that nagging, yelling, etc only lead to short term resolutions with him and I really want to look back on this time and not constantly be reminded by how chaotic it was. I’ve been working on being more intentional when talking to him about life (not just do this - clean that) and I know there’s a part of him that’s listening and wants to grow up. I’m so thankful for this podcast because it helps to not feel alone and think that your child (of all the children in the world) is the only one stumbling through life. I’ve been sending his Mom some of the episodes that resonate and she’s on board with changing our strategy. We’re going to focus on rebuilding our relationship with him and see what sticks. Hopefully my next review is us making progress. Thank you

Oneguy347Amazing podcast for parents of teensI am in the middle of DBT with my daughter and it has made a huge difference. However, I feel like this podcast is giving me more skills and insight into application. It is the missing piece I needed to learn to apply to parenting these crazy teen years. I felt like I was under water and this podcast is my first time catching a breath. I wish I had this a year ago so I could have navigated the rough waters without feeling so guilty, overwhelmed and exhausted. Even if you are not in the middle of something, listen to this podcast! It will make a huge difference in how you show up for your kids.

KariArmandMy weekly dose of parenting reassuranceLOVE LOVE LOVE the work Casey does educating us on how to embrace our parenting journey. She is the teacher and the student. Every podcast is like she is speaking directly to me. A better relationship with our kids is possible and the wisdom Casey drops in her solo shows or when she brings a guest always makes me feel seen. This podcast has taught me to love the parenting process, give myself grace during hard times and heal childhood traumas by becoming the parent I wanted to have. Feeling blessed ✨

Ashrobe123Binge-worthy!I no longer mind doing grocery shopping, blow drying my hair, folding laundry- anything time consuming - thanks to podcasts and especially Casey’s Joyful Courage podcast. As a result, I’m becoming more and more courageous around letting go of the outcome and supporting our 17 year old son in the ways he needs. I think our relationship has improved as a result of Casey’s influence. My husband says the temperature in our house has definitely lowered.

Ldm1025One of the best parenting podcasts out thereI like to go on long runs every weekend, so I listen to a lot of podcasts. Casey and Living Joyful Courage is by far my favorite parenting podcasts. Her raw honesty and calming presence in my ears makes me feel not so alone in this crazy stage of parenting teens. Casey’s advice is actionable and relatable. She shares personal stories about her own children, which I appreciate as a listener. She’s not an “expert” that is far removed from her subject area. She is in the weeds with us. Thank you Casey for sharing, you are a gift!
-
ProudMamaDoingMyBestSO relevant, real and accessible!!There’s no shame or guilty feelings here! This podcast and its host, Casey, are so real. Parenting teenagers is hard!! Positive Discipline Super fanThis podcast has been vital!Every time I listen to an episode this podcast has pulled me out of a frozen, fearful state of teen parenting. It gets better and more relevant every time (or maybe it’s just me that’s getting better?). I have consumed parenting/discipline books since my children were very young and it is so easy to keep moving through unhealthy cycles. Enter reality-based parenting with Joyful Courage and Positive Discipline where we are finally building the tools that we have needed to make deep and lasting changes. Serious cultural/mindset/paradigm-shifting work. So grateful for Casey’s knowledge, wisdom, and love!
-
Mindful Kids and FamiliesAmazingly practical parenting advice!Casey has a way of discussing parenting teens that is so easily accessible! I love her non-judgemental and casual style when talking with guests or about certain topics. I keep coming back to hear more and this podcast has been so helpful in raising my teenage son!

CMuchnickWonderful guests and helpful contentCasey gets down to the nuts and bolts, emotions and actions of parenting in our complex world. She has a soothing and spiritual approach to much of what she does that feels so good to listen to as I take walks and listen to her podcast. Highly recommend! IPhoneuserAppReviewParenting Requires EffortAs a GenX dad I know that my son is experiencing his teenage years much differently than I did. I am constantly looking for new ways to connect with and understand my teenage son. This podcast provides insight into joyfully dealing with the issues that are faced with parenting. Although exhausting and often frustrating, you can find Joyful Courage in parenting.
-
OrchieboyLove this podcastI found the podcast after taking a positive discipline class a few years ago and now my daughter is entering her teen years, and it is so nice to have a podcast with such awesome information about how to “handle”/experience/survive the teen years. Casie is so loving and welcoming and I love how she shares her own real life parenting experience to help keep it all real and to remind me that it’s all about trying my best and making myself available, but it may not always be pretty. I feel like I’m talking to a friend when I listen to the podcast. Thank you for all that you do - you really are making a difference in the world!
-
CeliaTanaThis podcast is a gem!I discovered this podcast via a Positive Discipline FB group and it has been...dare I say, life changing. My kids are 11 and 13, and I can feel myself being a better parent to them thanks to this podcast. It has lead to some incredible interactions with my kids, and given me a mindset to lean on when I’m in a new and unexpected (or completely expected!) situations with them. It has helped me remember my role as a parent: to love them unconditionally and to accompany them on their journey to becoming healthy, functional adults, and what that accompaniment looks like (hint: it doesn’t look like control!) It helps me start each interaction with my kids with love, appreciation, respect and trust - and they can feel it and have shown it back to me. I am so happy to have discovered this at this precipice of teen-ness (and wish I had heard it earlier for my 13 year old) because I can now see mistakes I was barreling towards making, and thankfully with this wisdom I can *hopefully* avoid stepping right into them. Thank you Casey for everything you teach me!

RMCM1261Show notesGood show but I don’t like having to go to the website to see show notes. Please put a quick summary about what each show is about. It’s annoying that we have no idea what the show covers and if we want to find out, we have to go to the website. ****I noticed you added show notes to the latest episodes! Thank you!!!****
-
Sascha AnneExcellent, wise, vulnerable, honest—so helpfulI’ve listened to JC for years off and on. My oldest is the age of Casey’s youngest and there have been times when I listened to some episodes repeatedly, like a meditation on letting go of control and sitting with what is. I have a closer less friction filled relationship with my kids as a result.
-

💃🏻JessSeattleDanceFitnessThanks Casey!I was so thankful to find your podcast in the last 6 months since my tween turned into a full on teen, went back to in person school and started navigating middle school for the first time as an 8th grader, since the pandemic took away the early years of middle school. He got into all kinds of ish pretty darn quick that I really wasn’t prepared for! Your podcast has been so helpful in building my toolbox as a parent of a teen. THANK YOU!

FellwHumnFellow parent in the trenchesCasey is so down to earth and humble. She speaks to all parents and does not sugar coat how tough getting through these adolescent to young adult years is. She offers sound positive discipline tools and suggestions, and she knows it may not be natural to you. But she gives tons of refreshers and just encourages you to keep trying. Keep bridging that connection with your child. Casey has created a community of parents who can reach out to each other when things are difficult. I am a huge fan of her shows, and am very grateful to Casey for creating this podcast. Thank you for creating content that makes a difference!
