I am really enjoying The Canary Murder. The use of a phonograph recording to make the investigator believe that the victim must have been alive at a certain point reminded me of the murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie. I see that the Canary Murder was written in 1927 so a year or two after the Agatha Christie book. I wonder whether SS Van Dyne had read the Christie book before he wrote his own murder mystery and got the idea of the recorded voice being used as an alibi from there?

I found 1001 stories for the road a year ago and I love it! After long stressful days, or pottering around doing the daily chores, your podcast is the ultimate chill out. The selection of stories is fantastic- all quality literature. I’m loving ‘The Moonstone’! Thank you for, John!

But I have to say I always thought the author’s surname is pronounced buckan- it being of Scottish provenance.

I greatly enjoy all of the 1001 podcasts. This re-branding and re-formatting of Stories for the Road is excellent. I love the single chapter podcasts, allowing you to really listen to the stories at a relaxed pace instead of them being shortened to fit. Jon you've done it again, 5 stars!
