Through the Looking Glass: A LOST Retrospective

78

A six-episode retrospective on the TV show Lost hosted by SYFY WIRE's Senior Producer, Tara Bennett, and renowned TV critic, Maureen Ryan. Fifteen-years ago, Lost changed the television landscape and its impact is still influencing what we watch today. For this podcast series, we're not recapping episodes. Instead, we're exploring how Lost impacted high-concept, serialized storytelling, opened the door for shorter U.S. seasons, created a transmedia landscape that fed water-cooler TV, ushered in a new era of fan engagement, and went on to populate the next generation of showrunners and landmark television series.

    Fun
Fun podcast with an entertaining panel of guests. However i disliked that they kept blaming “the fans” for not accepting the bonkers plot and kept sugar coating it.

    Talking over our heads
I was lost (yes, dear reader, pun intended) 50% of the time as the hosts spoke in language they’d use when speaking to each other, not when speaking to someone who is not a critic or TV insider. It’s as though they forgot the listener was even there.

    Great podcast!
I loved this podcast! So nice to hear from Drew and Liz, and of course, Damon and Carlton!

    Superbly done.
For many, the experience of LOST was about much more than viewing a new generation of serialized episodic TV — it was a worldwide community of fans sharing their passionate devotion, speculative theories, and sense of connection. This fantastic series brings it all back with a rush, like a temple Hot Tub Time Machine in hyperdrive. Kudos!

A great way to go back
Backed by a love and respect for the series, this team takes a detailed looked back at Lost through the lens of its effect on pop culture then and now. Their parade of guests offer their unique connection with observations of the show, many new for me, all with a fascination at the [insert lightning in a bottle like cliche here] that the show Lost was. Highly recommended for casual and hardcore fans.

    I’m lost
I’m halfway through episode 3, and I’m wondering when they get around to talking about the actual show, the actual episodes, not their personal experiences around the show. For example, their experience in writing a blog or article ABOUT the show. I have not heard one take on a specific scene or how they relate to a specific episode. Their likes and dislikes. I had high hopes. I thought, FINALLY a podcast about Lost. I was letdown, hard pass for me.

    A writers circle jerk
A bunch of monotone hosts agreeing about great they are and how much LOST influenced tv culture. There was no discussion of any episodes, themes, or interpretations of the epic show. Everyone that spoke on the show agreed that the finale was great and that anyone who says it wasn’t is just an anonymous internet troll yelling at the tv like a Jets fan. I wanted to hear about LOST, not transmedia and award ceremonies.

For Fans Of Lost And Fans Of TV In General
This podcast does an excellent job of looking back at the impact that Lost had on the TV landscape as well as on TV fandom. The hosts, Mo Ryan and Tara Bennett, both were there at the beginning and they have the experience to give us an insightful look at the Lost phenomenon and how it has influenced TV shows that came after it. The two of them have great chemistry together and there are lots of interesting guests as well. A must listen if you're a fan of the show or even if you're just a fan of TV and how it has evolved over the past 15 years.

    Thank You!
I loved this show. I love LOST. I love hearing people who were involved with it in any form, recount their experiences.

    Excellent in depth analysis!
Your team does the deep analysis of a show that captured my heart. ignited my imagination, and accelerated my puzzle solving skills beyond Sudoku. I was the fan that rewatched shows to uncover clues, read Jeff Jensen’s episode recaps on EW, and like Nikki, I loved the final episode. All the pieces fit together from an eternal plane. Well done!

    I was expecting more
Lost is my favorite show of all time and I was expecting more from this podcast. Ironic in a show that talked about women being left out of the important parts of the season finale on Lost that the show was basically only women (until the last episode) talking about the show. The people talking almost agreed too much and we didn’t get a back and forth about the show as much as I would have liked.

    Amazing!!!
This podcast in fantastic. It’s a deep dive into why LOST was integral in changing the media landscape and was very much at the for front of the way fans engage today with their favorite shows. The podcast reminds the listener of how fun it was to be a Lostie!!! Jater 4 Life!!!

    No talk of Lost
Almost no discussion of Lost. Mostly talk of current media consumption and broadcast vs streaming.

    Meh
Too much on social issues and not enough on the actual show. Podcast is an unfortunate miss.

    Great show, great podcast
I haven’t watched the show in a few years but it’s fun reliving the memories with this podcast.

Hosted by a group of racists.
I was enjoying it until the hosts launched into a totally uncalled for racist attack on white men. What a disappointment. At least LOST didn’t go downhill until the final season; this retrospective couldn’t make it through the first episode!

Great conversation about the best show ever!
I loved listening to this discussion about LOST (and not just because I loved the finale)
