The Red Note

215

Over the last 25 years, thousands of women have been viciously murdered or disappeared along the border in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. The investigation into these crimes has revealed a systemic web of corruption, drug violence, sex trafficking, and unchecked globalization that authorities have tried desperately to hide. Hosted by famed investigative journalist Lydia Cacho and produced by a Mexico-based creative team, The Red Note examines the story of the Juarez femicides through the voices of investigators who tried to solve the mystery of these crimes, and the families of the victims, whose lives have been reshaped by tragedy.

    Chilling in so many ways
I’m not sure which horrifies me more, the unchecked murders of thousands of young girls and women in Cuidad Juarez or the depth of Mexican government official and police corruption. The podcast is thoroughly researched and reported. To my ear, the legal and feminist term ‘femicide’ is awkward at best in the English language version. Murder of these women shouldn’t remind the listener of herbicide or pesticide. But I get the intention. Otherwise excellent and important.

    Ehh
Yes what happened was tragic but the feminist undertones and lack of understanding of what daily life is like in juarez is just unbearable. Typical victim spin that blames everyone else for their troubles. The narrator is unbearable

    Beautiful accent
Amazing female actress attempt to be a captivating narrator of these horrendous stories amidst her Mexican accent. My mother is Mexican-American and is timid about her accent so I applaud you! Great job keep up the great work.

    Great, but...
And I'm sorry...the female voice over actress is really hard to listen to. I almost stopped listening completely because of the way the lines were read. Sorry. Just had to mention because the story is important just hard to listen to.

    Great work
Gripping story & excellent work by all involved in putting this together. Thank you for the quality project. Maybe it’s just a cultural thing & I’m totally clueless on this but you can enunciate the script in an entertaining way without sounding like a teacher reading Dr. Suess during kindergarten story time.

Excellent and better than its competitor, but exageratedly lionizes leftist attitudes and behaviors.

    My God...
Such a heart breaking series of stories. How incredibly terrible it is for the parents and victims. It is a hard listen, but it needs to be heard. I am impressed with the quality of the reporting, while at the same time I am less than impressed with the state’s response.

    So well done
What a sad story. I hope this can help find justice for these women. This podcast is so well done and interesting to listen to. You really get a feel for the the people effected and place where it is all taking place and just how dangerous it is to tell this story. Thank you for this work.

    Horrific
Sad but that the same people that Do Not see ILLEGAL activities such as ‘American Coyote’ as contributors are delusional.

    Fighting the good fight
Thank you for being so strong and courageous and not letting anything or anyone silence you..I don’t understand for the life in me how this kind of stuff still happens and for so long...who the HELL do those men, I mean ANIMALS think they are? Something needs to be done NOW!! The Police system is a JOKE and nothing but EVIL. They need to remove ALL, Every SINGLE ONE of them and start new. It seems as if the whole system is ok with all those murders.. what the HELL is going on over there? Does anyone care? I don’t understand?... I pray God for your safety and thank you for your brave heart..

    Needs to be told
Femicide needs to be told as much as possible! More podcasts need to be made! This podcast is informative and well written. Lydia Cacho is a great journalist. Please listen to this podcast and listen to other femicide podcasts.

    Great listen.
Great podcast on such a tragedy in our modern times. Really hit close to home - as we’re listening going down the highway, my honey tells me she worked there for 6 months in a maquiladora. Thank Jah she made it out alive.

Recycling work of journalists and academics
Basically a cliff note version of things in Juarez with a dash of sensationalism

    Must-hear.
Incredibly well-researched and heartbreaking stories in this podcast. Should be heard by anyone with an interest in women’s rights, global trade, and helps shed light on how such blatant injustice can continue - unfortunately - with relative impunity. Highly recommended.

    Just Ok
Although the story is tragic from all perspectives, it lacks a certain level of concrete detail into the total scope of events.
  • TattooedLady801
    Lydia has a beautiful voice
A well told story done by someone who is clearly dedicated to doing justice to the story. Lydia narrates beautifully and makes a horrifying story bearable to listen to. Could not be better.

    Incredible storytelling
The dedicated and in-depth reporting in The Red Note paints a full picture of the tragedy of these femicides. This podcast is a must-listen, especially for those of us previously unfamiliar with this heartbreaking issue.

An engaging podcast on an important subject
Well-produced, hard-hitting journalism on a very important topic. The podcast’s host is engaging and extremely qualified to speak on the subject of femicide. I appreciate the variety of voices and stories surrounding this sensitive subject.

    Worth listening to
The topic of femicide is covered in this podcast. A topic very few of us think about as we languish in our homes and safe communities. It is a frightening topic that needs more coverage to create awareness.

    More People Need to Listen
This podcast uncovers the secrets of societies we are often to afraid to look at. I am moved by this investigative journalism and the commitment to bringing voices to the many women who have lost their lives. Stories like this need more attention, in effort to bring closure to the many families who are lost someone they love and the dark reality of that lurks in the underbellies of so many communities. Listen, share and listen again.

    Awesome podcast
I recently found this podcast and I love it. I had no idea about the murders in Mexico and the episodes are so informative and told very well. I will definately keep listening and look forward to many more amazing episodes. I am also praying for all of the families and women that are being affected by this.

Excellent reporting. The contrast between the US & Mexico....makes me even more thankful to have been born in the US and also recognize the privilege.

Everyone Needs to Listen to this Podcast
This issue is so, so, so important. Thank you for this podcast. I’m moved by the dedication to truth and justice by those involved in telling these families’ stories.
  • Bocajr5553
    Needs a different narrator
I have just listened to The Women of Juarez podcast which was excellent and very similar to this one. I could not tolerate this narrator’s slow labored English. As I am a Spanish speaker, I might try to listen to it in Spanish.
  • NanafromtheHood 😊
    Intro way too long.
Twelve minutes in before the story starts. I find that irritating and manipulative. Going to give this a fair chance but may very well move on to something else..

    The Red Note
    Riveting and unbelievable.

    Horribly Good
This is not a great topic, but it’s important and the reporting is superb.

    An International Issue
If this issue got more interest than Hollywood’s waistline or the next fad there would be more women saved and murderers incarcerated. The world however is not just so as long as people keep being loud than hopefully it will at least give families hope. Great podcast, keep it up!
  • Veek213
    why you throwing shade?
The podcast seems fine, but I don't know why they have to start by saying "this information has never been presented in this way before" right after the release of the sensitive and (so far) more coherent podcast, "Forgotten: Women of Juárez." They even interview the same people. Really, there's enough room for everyone.
  • D-B-007
Highly anticipatied yet, It is even better!
Such a compelling story I can’t wait to hear more(Forgotten is a good start!) and in the days to come more awareness is brought to the Juárez situation and the suffering.Update it is even better than I had hoped!!!!
