Says You! - A Quiz Show for Lovers of Words, Culture, and History

588

Public radio's game show of bluff and bluster, words and whimsy. The warmest, wittiest cocktail party - it's spirited and civil, brainy and boisterous, peppered with musical interludes. Fast paced and playful, it's the most fun you can have with language without getting your mouth washed out with soap. Our motto: It's not important to know the answers, it's important to like the answers!

Love this show! An amazing mix between trivia and stand up. 🤍

    Love show need more podcast
I heard mention on the show that there are 600 episodes. Why then can I only get about less than 50 in the podcasts? I know the show sadly is no longer in production and was never available here in central PA on WITF, but can the remaining episodes be made available for podcast? I especially like the older shows hosted by Richard Sher, but I also enjoy the ones with other hosts.

    No one can replace .....
2/18/24 Ok. So I faced it you are no longer in production. PLEASE. Your demise is relatively recent. Can’t you post some shows that are, perhaps in the last 5 years? I don’t quite understand why you post 20+ year old shows when you have much more current ones. Sure do miss y’all! Sadly, it seems all the knowledge enhancing , hysterical, fun shows are quitting. I miss the laughter. Surely there are others who could take over. Naturally, no one as fabulously GREAT AS YOU ALL, I understand that of course! Thanks for all the years you’ve brought us happiness and laughter! Love you! Petra 2/15/23 What will we do? I can’t bear this gem not continuing!!!! We can’t lose another witty show that makes us laugh, think, push our gray cells! Please, continue the show with a new host. WE NEED IT, now more than ever. Just sayin, don’t give up! See you in a Seattle! Port Townsend?!?!?! Love you all & THANK YOU! ✨🙏🤞❣️💫

I loved this show but only the episodes with Richard Sher as host. Listen to those.

    Miss you!
I’m so disappointed intellectual quiz shows are few and far between. Still eager to learn!!! Thank you!

    Says You
I doubt I am not alone in wishing this show were still in production. Please, please, keep posting episodes.

Better than other game shows by far
Fantastic show! The questions are designed to be clever and hard, and the panel is all the more clever by coming up with correct yet hilarious answers. I am in awe.

Richard Sher teaches me to have a great attitude!
I have listened to any Richard Sher episode or podcast for years, especially now in the evening, when I appreciate his and the gang's examples of humor, kindness, some humility, and curiosity; so I end each day in the best possible frame of mind, and wake up happy and ready to be useful! What incredibly special people these are. I hope these podcasts go on for a very long time!

Please check on some old jokes
Huge fan of the show and very sad to hear that this amazing run is reaching its end. I’m quite enjoying the stroll down memory lane, but right at the 3 minute mark of the latest episode, there is a joke included in which it seems that Carolyn says “…well in Korea they eat dogs, so the dogs would be running.” I know you shouldn’t be expected to vet every second of every episode, but the inclusion of that plainly racist joke in particular, and in the first round nonetheless, left an awful taste and led to me instantly stopping the episode.

I wish you would do one more live show!
We love your show. We wish you had one more around Boston. My boys wanted to see you live. We love listening to you.

One of the best shows ever
I’m crushed that they have decided to stop producing it.

    Perfect companion for cooking
I love the friendly, informal feeling. The host and contestants are always full of friendly banter and joking. No one cares if they win or lose, and they all love language and trivia. It reminds me of what Prairie Home Companion was in the 1970's. Whenever I'm cooking alone, I put it on. I only wish I could get the whole back catalog in my mobile player, Pocket Cast.

    Such a great show
I discovered this a couple years ago. It challenges me, amuses me and makes me feel smart when I know the answers before the panelists! (Rare but fun). Please…keep the show going… it’s great!

    I just LOVE this show!
I’ve enjoyed this erudite quiz show for years. Panelists work together to solve word, music & cultural puzzles. The puns!!

    What a language!
English is such a mess. a pile of misspellings and misunderstandings. Says You! helps me enjoy it all the more.

Is there any way to keep this show on the air.
Like another reviewer, this show and Wait,Wait are my go to podcasts for entertainment. I am not even good at answering the uestions, but I love the creativity and humor👍🏻
  • The Shadow Nose
    Sometimes funny or entertaining
About 60% bland blather with occasional humor, interesting knowledge or other entertainment making up 40% or so. Slow paced. Pretty good for car radio or background noise if you’re doing chores. Not likely to hold your attention long term. Further comparison: Has about 10% of the comedy density of a comparable BBC panel show and lacks any good satire.

I’ll miss you guys forever. Please don’t stop!
Love SaysYou so much it hurts to think about the finality of the series. Richard Shure was Amazing and a gift to humanity and language. Wish we could run SaysYou forever. Perhaps some of us can get together and run it as a nonprofit.

Sad To See First-Run Production End
COVID-19 took a scalp with this show. The realities of the coronavirus era made impossible producing new episodes of one of public radio’s best shows. Currently the podcast feed brings replays of evergreen episodes never heard before. COVID-19 made my world get really small and I will miss new episodes of the panel.

    Too much fun!
This show and Wait Wait make my weekends totally awesome. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the sophistication and wit - and I’m just a common dullard!

    The. Best. Show. Ever!!!!
Full of wit and fun to listen to. They are now doing virtual live streams, $25 each. Next one is 2/13/21. Join in and see what our friends look like!

    A treasure of a podcast
I started listening just before the pandemic lockdown began, and what a joy this show has been during this time. I love spending time with this group that feel like my friends, though I still mix up the voices of Arnie, Murray, and Tony. Sometime host Dave Zobel has a wonderful voice and sassy sense of humor. I listened to all of his episodes before going back through to Richard’s! Give an episode a whirl - you won’t regret it.
  • berkeleylinda
    Good friends
Richard et al are have become good friends who also make me laugh a lot. A gift especially during this difficult time. 🌺
  • DapperD3
I listen to this every week
I absolutely love this podcast. It’s fun, smart, and an absolute joy to listen to.
  • Katiej7
Did Love it until Dave Zobel ruined it.
The worst and most snobbish, no sense of humor host on radio! I miss Richard and the show has lost its appeal. Will be Unsubscribing.

I love this ridiculous show more than is sensible. Thank you Arnie, Paula, Carolyn, Barry, Francine, Tony, Murray, Flash, Lenore, Gregg, Dave, and everyone else for showing up.
  • Cookieeis
    I miss Richard
This is the closest thing I’ve found to the wonderful panel shows from the U.K., however, it’s just not the same without the original host and creator- of course, he’s a hard act to follow. But why do I get the feeling that the new host would rather be somewhere else? And there doesn’t seem to be any love lost between the panelists and host, either. What keeps me listening is the welcome addition of Deb and Erin. They are genuinely clever without all the snark and grasping puns.
  • coastalcalgal
    Says you!
This panel show is terrific because it makes you think, is often hilariously funny and challenges you a little bit as well. Also they have great local music from every venue they visit. I love it
  • smcaulay
    Where has it gone??
I love this program. It on radio at an inconvenient time for me, which means I REALLY love the podcast. But for the past few months, no podcast to be found. Boo!
  • nevagain
    Not singers
Mr Sher is turning over in his grave. If they have one more round where he makes the panelists sing I am canceling my podcast subscription.

I just discovered this show and love it
This show doesn’t play in my town. I happened to discover the podcast and I love it. I’m sure others have said this, but it’s like listening to a smart program on BBC radio. The panelists are clever and witty but not boring. Time flies when I listen. Thank you for this show.

    I can’t believe...
I haven’t looked for this in podcasts for 2 years! I used to hopefully search all the time and then gave up. The good news is now I get to catch up!
  • Tuitey
    I love this show!!!
I should have checked to see if it was son iTunes years ago! I’m never by a radio and remember to listen to Says You! Partly because I’m probably among the younger listeners... I went to see it live when I was 18 (after being a fan for years) that was only 4 years ago!

A must-subscribe podcast for any bibliophile
This podcast is my handsdown favorite - I remember listening to this with my mother (I'm 34) and when I found out there was a podcast I jumped for joy (quite literally) over the discovery. I absolutly love this show, my children agest 6 & 4 listen with me as well. Family friendly and educational in a fun way, I adore this show - thank you for making it accessable as a podcast! <3

    Thoroughly entertaining.
I stumbled upon this show by happenstance. I left the raido on the day before, and this greeted me the next day when I started driving. Thank god it did. This is a wonderful show for anyone who enjoys wit, words, and whimsy.

Best radio quiz/trivia show out there
The only bad thing about Says You! is that there aren’t MORE episodes for me to binge-listen! I first heard this show in the car while browsing through different talk radio channels, and I immediately searched for its archives when I got home. Since then, I’ve listened to all the shows and just wish there were a bigger back-log for me to enjoy! If you like Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me, you’ll like Says You!. In fact, I think I enjoy it even more than Wait Wait!
  • H. Wastrel
fun people having fun with word games
it’s fun to play along at home but it’s even more fun to listen to them banter and quip! Like going to a good cocktail party without having to dress up or artfully avoid the boring guests
  • Joshuainlalaland
    brilliant
    can't recommend highly enough

FINALLY!! A smart, intelligent radio show is now a smart, intelligent podcast!
SO happy to finally get this as a podcast. I too live in an area where Says You, one of the smartest and funniest radio shows ever created, is not on, so I had to go to rather absurdist lengths to get to listen (including taking full advantage of time zone differences). Now I can resume a Friday night tradition that I haven’t had in 10-plus years! Thank you all so much! I’ll still miss Richard Sher, though. He did have his quirks but he had a wonderful sense of NOT writing down to his audience, and he expected the audience to come to his level. But his Luddite tendencies did hold the show back in many ways.

    YEA!
We are so glad it's available now as a podcast. We've enjoyed the show for years :-)

Fun, engaging, and never a dull moment!
I absolutely love this show, so much so I would wait to go out Saturday nights until after it was over. I'm thrilled there's a podcast now so I'll never miss a show. I laugh hysterically while learning!

Yay! No more trying to record the internet!
It took forever, but this great show is finally available as a podcast. No more trying to record it in 15 minute chunks.

    My favorite show on NPR!
People who know me, know exactly what I am doing when Says You! airs on my local NPR station. I will continue to listen live, and enjoy the opportunity to listen again to shows the other six days of the week.
