Oh boy… another mediocre female guest with no substance to add. There is very little material to gain in these interviews. The only benefit you can glean after all of it is understanding how leadership will think in 5 years

You pick a ‘journalist’ who subtly praises the Biden Administration with all the good they did with Ukraine but he fails to address not delivering air power for over two years and the threat of China in the nuclear arena and its conventional arms race. I lived in China from 2016-21 and THEY are the foremost threat in almost every regard. They overtly make it clear there that WE are the enemy. The people are awesome and they like Americans much. But obviously not our government and they perceive Biden and our population as profoundly weak.

A show to improve our understanding of conflict around the world
This show compiles subjects and experts that discuss important aspects of conflicts, both present and past, from around the world. It helps frame many of the headlines in ways that make the world’s conflicts more understandable. Fantastic podcast!

History, Identity, and Russia’s War in Ukraine
Let me start off, I really appreciate this podcast. I listen to every episode during my runs. They provide excellent insight into a variety of topics that apply to my career. HOWEVER, PLEASE take note of this. In the most recent episode listed above, the guest speaker has a habit of starting out sentences at an adequate, normal volume of voice. As her sentences and thoughts string out, she begins to lower her voice drastically, speak faster, and almost mumble under her breath. This makes it maddeningly nigh impossible to understand how some of her sentences finish, ESPECIALLY while running, even with the volume all the way up. Again, love the show, just please try to have guest speak in a manner that’s at a normal pace and easy to understand for idiots like myself.

    They’re no anti-hero
With all due respect, I can gather more intelligence about modern warfare from a Taylor Swift song.

    Audio. Get it together
Sorry to say this, but the audio is brutal, particularly when it’s a guest. In 2023 this is not necessary anymore. Simple fix: have the guest record into his phone, then send the file over. Thanks.

I loved this episode, because it helped me explain to friends/family why the 🇺🇸 and NATO have to be very careful about response.

An absolutely brilliant podcast that covers tactical to strategic military operations from the people on the ground. An invaluable tool for anything studying military affairs.

    Future of SFA
Though I enjoyed the conversation with LtCol Matisek and Dr. Will Reno, I thought the discussion was poorly framed; specifically, and to Will’s later points, everything flows from the strategic context, in which case the very first question, either preceding or incorporated into the definitions of FID/SFA, should have been: “Under what conditions should the US engage in SFA/FID? And have recent examples of SFA/FID been in alignment with National Interests?” I appreciated LtCol Matisek’s anecdotal criticisms, but his points were only helpful in a discussion about whether we did SFA/FID correctly or not, and not whether we should do it at all or not. Will’s comments - very pragmatic and germane to the question of whether the US should engage in SFA in the future - about the French and UK efforts in Mali and Sierra Leone, respectively, illuminated the idea that National Interest should drive application of SFA, and how a nation can justify action to its population, and how much to resource those operations. I would have much preferred the following frame for the conversation: 1) Definitions 2) National Interest as deciding factor for considering conflict and/or SFA 3) Examples of SFA without support of National Interest, successes/failures 4) Examples of SFA with support of National Interest, successes/failures 5) Under what conditions and with what partners might the US justifiably conduct SFA in our new geo-strategic context?

I have to say every time I hear a new pod cast episode I am really amazed at the depth of the discussion. Great

Talks a lot without saying anything
I really want to enjoy this podcast but I find that the host and guests often talk for an hour without really saying anything other than broad generalizations. I’m usually asleep by the end of each episode. Unsubscribing.

    Very Good
I’ve really enjoyed listening to this podcast. Some subjects/guests are more interesting to me than others, but overall it is very good. Will continue to follow as long as they keep releasing episodes.

    Welcome humility
Not only are the topics interesting and well presented but the host, unlike most podcasts, refrains from continually proving that he is brighter than the guests and, by extension, all of us.

    Stop with the F-35 Propaganda.
Fairly good podcast on most topics...except the F35. The propaganda on that thing is found all over the place including this podcast. This notion that its so much better than the A-10. If the A-10 was as slow and worthless as they say, then how come the F-16s could not get the job done in the Gulf War and they brought in the A-10s? Also, at no point does anyone talk about the low amount of weapons the F-35 can carry. The A-10, for 12 million per, can deliver munitions all day; the F-35 for 115 million per, will quickly run out of munitions. Like, about 220 rounds of 25mm for the F-35 vs 1200 rounds of 30mm for the A-10...no contest. A-10 is hands down the better aircraft for ground support, and there are so many metrics that prove that; and for the same money you can flood the air with A-10s. Its time to stop with the lies when it comes to these military pet projects, its not helping the military look good.

    Excellent
Thanks a bunch for the great podcasts. I really like the discussions wherein the military is contextualized in the broader national security and whole of government strategies.

    Great fodder for drinking games
Had fun listening to the show. One drink when anyone mentions ‘Rand’ or ‘Brookings’ in toadying hallowed tones. One drink when anyone says anything that could be said by Dr Strangelove or Major Major. Full review at: andyspodcasterpodcastingpodcast.com - Syrian War Podcast Episode. Spoiler, you get 5 stars, 2 thumbs up, a Clear Eyes Full Hearts & a Dr Strangelove.

    Change the intro music.
That’s the worst, most annoying music I’ve ever heard.

    Brilliant podcast
Similar to Hoover, Brookings, and CSIS content. However, very clearly grounded in lessons for young officers.

    A Necessary Podcast
As a junior leader in the Army, this podcast reviews all the topics I think (and don’t think) about. Fitness, updated doctrine, policy and strategy are just snippets of the many topics covered by this podcast. Leaders of all levels, especially the company grade should listen to this podcast as the overarching topics provide the context for the policies that affect day-to-day operations.

    Relevant discussions on today’s issues
This podcast brings to us discussions we could never go out and find for ourselves. The range of topics discussed are broad but are all very relevant to today’s political climate and military strategy. I appreciate that it is driven by no particular ideology. Some episodes could use some better audio help but I imagine they are done in a variety of settings without the luxury of a studio. Listeners will enjoy broadening their perspective and understanding of why things are as they are and will have their imaginations expanded as to how things may be in the future. Well done MWI.

    Should be shared more
I’m a high school educator and a veteran. I shared your war 2.0 episode with my school’s person in charge of new learning. I also appreciated Dr. Kreps talking about thankless tasks.

Top notch look at modern and future warfare
I’ve been incredibly impressed with the guests, subjects, and John’s excellent moderating/interviewing. Always worth a listen. I feel more informed every time I listen

    Keep up the great work!
This is outstanding work for the young company grade officers who produce. You all are where the rubber meets the road. Guests are renowned, topics relevant, and the questions are not too lofty that it isn’t accessible to a broad audience. Spread the word far and wide. A must subscribe for any military member, politician, and anyone who wants to contribute to winning on the battlefield.
  • Drewlyman
    Thinking man’s podcast
A lot of great insight and topics covered about modern combat, the shape of things to come and what threats are on the horizon. Phenomenal list of guests. Well done podcast.

Great listen for military and international relations issues.
I listen to this podcast regularly. Does a great job of covering the intersection of international affairs and military strategy and tactics. Covers the range from policy level discussions to the troops in the field. Limited use of jargon makes the podcasts (mostly) accessible to a civilian (like me) audience, too. Check it out!
