    Nano Particles
Since I heard you are a scientist at heart …. What do you think of nano particles in mineral sunscreen ? I’m using a sunscreen for kids that I loooove , it’s so effective and I like the feel , but there used to be a lot of negativity about this …. What do you think ? Loved your guest today , ( as usual ) ❤️🌸💕 Hugs 🤗!!

Here for the hosting and topics!
Such a great host-driven show, and love the more unique beauty topics- as someone who isn’t in the beauty space, I’m able to learn so much and be entertained along the way!

I would give more than 5 stars if it were an option
They are the best. Most recently they played my vm and are diligently trying to get me a solution to my allergy makeup issue. Love listening to these two talented, educated ladies around my age so it’s fun to hear the back in the day beauty we used to love. Jess quit your day job and stay with Jen 😂❤️

    Your beauty BFFs!
I am a long time listener (~5years) and can definitely say that Jess and Jenn will become your beauty bffs! They are so knowledgeable, informative, fun and witty, and I often find myself laughing out loud at some of their commentary. You don’t have to be deep in the beauty world to enjoy! Love the pod, thanks ladies!

Like listening to a beauty mag!
I've been listening to this podcast on-and-off for over 5 years and never left a review-until now! My recent fav has been Jen's science corner and hearing tidbits from Jess about Moda Operandi. I personally would love to see more interviews from people involved behind the scenes like cosmetic chemists, packaging designers, product testers, even bigwigs (like Estee Lauder's president interview).

    Love these two!
Your beauty content is spot on! Amazing information for the beauty junkie. Keep it up! Love that you list each product to easily locate.

    Love it! But…
I dont usally write reviews but I’ve been listening to this podcast a lot lately as a fellow beauty obsessed person and have been loving its interviews and how these two women really seem to care about education on makeup. The reason I haven’t given it 5 stars is because I felt that as two fair or white women they haven’t really made as much effort to delve into problems that mainly affect communities of color, I don’t believe this was intentional but I really hope they see this, in the meantime just keep this in mind :)

    Educated beauty journalist
It is refreshing to listen to a beauty podcast with intelligent and well informed women. If you are looking to learn about beauty, hear from industry experts, and learn about the science behind skincare this is a must follow podcast.

    My favorite podcast!
I look forward to a new episode each week. It's the highlight of my work week. Jenn and Jess are so fun and informative. My wallet hates them however, because I've been introduced to some wonderful products from the post. Update- I've been listening from the beginning and I still ADORE Jess and Jenn. If you're a beauty junkie you NEED THIS PODCAST.

These two are knowledgeable and so fun
I’m a relatively newbie to FM- like 4ish months. I’m surprised by some of the negative reviews. I have listened - and stopped listening- to other pods bc the hosts were SOOO judgy. I don’t get that at all from these two. I love listening to them and all their beauty stuff they do and the openings/launches/shows they go to. This suburban girl is living for their exciting NY lives and discussions of some of the same beauty issues I’m going thru as a late 40s mom. I know they are a beauty pod - would love to hear them talk about their overall style as well. Love u J & J!!!

Hit and miss. Do more interviews
Interviews from makeup stylists, business owners and other professionals are the best content. Try that and just that. The d*** good products segment and others by the hosts are just not interesting.

Love their annual end-of-year recap. It’s always funny, thoughtful, and on-point.

    Thoughtful podcast
Jess and Jen are such knowledgeable, curious, and passionate hosts. I’m a long time listener and always learning from this podcast about the science and history of the beauty industry while being entertained.

    Love you, FM ladies!
I discovered the FM podcast during the early days of the pandemic, and I would do my daily run listening to your beauty news and interviews and felt connected to a great community of beauty enthusiasts during a time when we needed to feel hopeful that we would get to the other side of the crisis with somewhere to wear lipstick and to care for ourselves and our loved ones, and to make wellness an essential priority. I continue to listen every week on my commute, and I take copious notes on products and brands, but I also tune in to feel that sense of community and celebration of wellness, health and beauty. Long live, FM!

    Best Beauty Podcast Out There!
I’ve been listening for years and this truly is a gem and a podcast I look forward to. The beauty is a 10/10 but the hosts are what make it. Their humor is spot on and I pray this podcast never goes away 🥰.

Love, but Jenn stop interrupting Jess
Jenn, I’m begging you to let Jess finish a sentence. I do this myself, and I absolutely love your earnestness but please, let Jess finish her sentences.

    Used to love it
This show really stood out to me before because the hosts did a great job of featuring diverse guests, highlighting fun beauty topics, and offering solid product recommendations, but things have gone downhill. Recently they had Venus Williams as a guest. Venus spoke about essentially starving herself at “wellness” spas (no problem), but then bashed Kim Kardashian for starving herself to fit into her Met Gala dress. The breaking point for me was the most recent episode featuring a plastic surgeon who basically caterers to rich, thin, white women who need to get rid of their slightly wide calves and ankles. “I can starve myself as much as I want…” was mentioned in the first 6 minutes of the show. I don’t know what happened but I can’t listen anymore.
  • vicfrances
    Misinformation on women’s bodies
The 8/5/22 episode made me unsubscribe. I really don’t like giving this surgeon a platform to spread misinformation. Can we go back to empowerment and not have slimy guests?

    What I’ve always wanted!!
I have finally found the perfect beauty podcast! Jen and Jess are knowledgeable, funny, and know all the ins and outs and everything you’d want to know about anything beauty related! They also listen to their listeners- THANK YOU!! Amazing ladies with an amazing podcast!
  • luvsweetface
    So annoying
Every time Jess & Jen interview someone, both of them literally talk over the guest (cutting them off) every single time! It’s so annoying. Also they have a very condescending tone whenever they engage. As a long time listener, I’m becoming more aware of just how much these two hosts are very unlikable. I’m over this podcast.

    Used to Love!
I stopped listening to Fat Mascara for a few months because I had lost interest in the episode topics / found other beauty podcasts. Plus I feel like Jen (since this is her full time job) cares a lot about the topics and Jess could care less. She always sounds so uninterested and bored. Started listening again today and Jess now is nitpicking the “Science Corner” music that Jen picked out. Huge eye roll.

    Never miss an episode
I really love this podcast. Having the knowledge and perspective of two beauty editors on call is fantastic. This podcast provides access to the best of the beauty business. Thank ladies!

I love everything about this podcast—the content, the interviews, the interns, and the hosts’ lovely voices!!!!!
  • bunninfluencer
women bickering with each other about who is greener
We have, as a society, hit a new low. On a podcast purportedly about beauty, we instead get a presentation about trash and garbage and which of the OCD hosts is the more dedicated recycler. Our world today is lacking in beauty, glamor and grace. A beauty podcast should elevate the listener, instruct on how to bring beauty into their lives, educate on proper skin, hair, fragrance and makeup to enhance their natural beauty and reduce harm from environmental stresses and other things that affect the health and appearance. Instead, this podcast will add to your stress. There was precious little product news and it seemed insincere and not supportive of the products.

One of the best beauty podcasts!
I really enjoy this podcast. The hosts have smart and funny banter together and always have very interesting guests.
  • licoricerain
    Too many interruptions
Came here for the interview w Chandler Burr, whose perfume and scent writing is sublime. Would have appreciated hearing him speak instead of being interrupted mid sentence by the hosts every two seconds.
  • EricaBushwell
    Positive and engaging conversations!
Provides great insight into interesting conversatons regarding fashion and beauty. Fun and light conversations that offer different perspectives and encouraging words!
  • chaa12
    What happened?
I used to absolutely adore this show, but it’s becoming increasingly difficult for me to listen. Jess, please talk less!!! Your questions don’t all need to be 7 min long. Let your guests speak.

    Beauty deep dives
Professional, informative, fun. Jen and Jessica discuss all things beauty related while keeping the convo light and fun. Most importantly- without rambling! A podcast you can learn from AND enjoy. Absolutely LOVE listening to every show!
  • citrus333
Jess and Jen are a breath of fresh air!
Both women are lovely to listen to, they get real without being whiny, just enough personal content to engage you with each of them while they deliver relevant and timely beauty news. They are a great team when interviewing their many interesting and fun guests. Love their pod!
  • vikariq
    Hypocrites - get educated, please.
So I was listening to episode 288, and when they were talking about not using the word, “Orient,” they also pronounced Iran (traditionally a part of the Orient) as Eye-Ran. Ummm that’s not how it’s pronounced. If you’re going to defend the Orient and call for people not using the word Orient anymore, try to respect the countries you’re trying to defend by pronouncing them correctly, at least.

    A League of One
Fat Mascara stands out as a beauty podcast that covers important topics with compassion, sensitivity and inclusivity while still delivering the escape, fantasy, and fun we all need from beauty, especially these days. They have not let doom and gloom takeover in the past year, most likely because they care about what they provide to their audience as professional journalists.
  • Cassie Molter
    The OG beauty pod
What I love most about FM is Jenn’s and Jess’ approach to reporting need-to-know beauty news in a way that makes me feel like I’m listening to my two girlfriends catch up. I feel like I’m even a part of the conversation sometimes! Jenn’s “Science Corner” segment always brings hard-hitting facts about what’s going on in the world of beauty. Jenn and Jess really balance each other out and are just so much fun to listen to. Raising a wand to you two, Jenn and Jess!
  • DKR42
    Jess-get it together!
Omg! Jess always sounds so bored! The worst interview techniques, vocal fry and interrupting all the time! Take some more time off and let’s have guests with Jen for a while.
  • cheyannecheyanne
    Meh
I feel as though the hosts need to be more educated about a few things in the beauty industry, and they can seem a bit condescending.
  • World traveler CICI
Great beauty podcast for all price ranges
I really enjoy listening to fat mascara they really cater to the highs and lows of beauty. I also really enjoyed listening to their podcast with Brooke Devard and insights on making her podcast Naked Beauty!! An amazing interview and I felt the warmth in the room and discovered something new!
