Fascinating! (But the hosts often bring in unwelcome politics.)

    Great
Love the podcast, thank you! For a layperson like me sometimes it’s on the outer edge of my interest and understanding. Meaning I might not remember a lot about the IPA letters after hearing about them. But I wish I could!

    A joy to listen to
I've been listening to Lingthusiasm for quite a while now. One thing that keeps me coming back is the hosts' genuine love for the subjects of linguistics, language, and communication. You can hear the joy shine through in their voices as they speak. You feel the visceral delight at a particularly delicious example. You wouldn't expect a discourse on grammar to cheer you up, but somehow it does. The best way to learn is from someone passionate about the subject, and you won't find anyone more passionate than Gretchen and Lauren.

    Great show!
Recently caught up and now I'm in withdrawal between episodes! I don’t study linguistics but both of my sisters do and it's great to have an entry-level way for me to learn enough to ask them about stuff that they're learning in school!

    Enthusiastic!
I love this podcast. While I may not share the deep geekery on this subject, I’m happy to learn more.

    Incredible!
As a linguistic nerd, lover of languages, and kindergarten teacher at a dual immersion school, this podcast fascinates me. You do an amazing job. I’ve recommended to various co workers. Thank you! (Am also wondering if potentially I could get a couple of months of bonus material for free…I’m so curious about the episodes and….educator bonus?🥰)

A great podcast for Linguistic beginners!
With good information, great explanations, and two excited hosts, this podcast is absolutely worth a listen.

    Great and fun podcast
Super fun to and excited to hear what they have to say . Gretchen ends up throwing me off I get anxiety from her fast, loud speaking. I understand the anxiety is my own. Both hosts are amazing and we can all learn a lot from both hosts.

    From a non-linguist, amazing
I’m not a linguist, but I love this pod. It’s fascinating as a lay person, thanks!!

    A Wonderful Podcast!
I highly recommend this to fellow language and linguistics lovers, as well as to anyone who wants to learn something new today! The podcast manages to be both informative - touching on interesting topics and interesting to listen to I play this while in the car, cleaning, etc. all the time c:

Discovered very recently. I love this! Very technical.

    Slow down!
The content seems interesting but one of the hosts speaks WAY too fast for me to keep up

    My favorite podcast
Lingthusiasm is so much fun! I’ve listened to countless episodes at this point and love it. I’ve learned so much, and funnily enough, when I’m having a lot of anxiety, popping on an episode really helps me relax. Thank you, Lauren and Gretchen!

This podcast is delightful dive into the totally wild world of linguistics, that feels like you’re listening in on 2 brilliant friends having a chat. It’s changed the way I think about the my speech, especially on dating apps.

Super happy to have found this podcast!
Outstanding podcast! Recently discovered it about a month ago, and I have already binged all 59 episodes. Can’t wait until more episodes are released. Hope we get more podcasts regarding some of the language families. Super interesting topics!

Fantastic! I love linguistics, and this show is a wonderful example of the field. It’s understandable without talking down to the audience. I love the hosts’ enthusiasm and interplay.

    Thank you! \(^o^)/
This is a thank you for your delightful podcast. I thoroughly enjoy learning something new and doing so in an upbeat way. Also for your contributions to the linguistic community. * < I give you this extra 6th star.

    Engaging, Accessible for nonlinguists
About 10 episodes in and loving it so far. As a USAmerican, I love encountering the Canadian/Australian perspectives and their accents are delightful to my ears. Episodes are just the right length. Episodes are well-focused and have a great narrative shape— flat like a conversation with friends but with enough curve that the listener feels satisfied at the end

No one will ever be more enthusiastic about linguistics
Doesn’t matter if you’re a “linguistics person”, the hosts are so enthusiastic you can’t not be.

Love the content, Gretchen could slow down
Love the content ladies!! The dynamic is a little odd, Gretchen’s high level of energy is paired with the more calming cohost. It’s oil and water at times. I know they are extremely smart but I almost want to tell Gretchen to stop whatever stimulants she is on and tone it down a little.
  • Dave.Ed
    In depth podcast
Just what I was looking for! An in-depth, academically solid, podcast on topical and interesting topics in linguistics.

    Pretty darn good
I listen to this show regularly. I’m a hobby linguist who loves listening and reading anything that has to do language. I have to say that at first I wasn’t so sure about Gretchen. I thought she came off as overbearing. She definitely tends to dominate most of the conversations with Lauren and her rapid breathless speech kind of stressed me out. The more I’ve listened, the more I feel I’ve better understood their dynamic, and it works. I wish they would get more guests on to highlight recent research in linguistics. I love all the episodes, but I think too many have like a fun fact vibe to them and are very uncontroversial. Like I said, I like the show. Four stars presently, but I know this show will only get better.

They should stick to linguistics and not try to play lawyer

    Great for language nerds!
Funny banter between two likable hosts, perfect for us who are fascinated by language diversity & analysis. Sit back & enjoy!

    Love this podcast!!!
I love this podcast, and go through an episode or two nearly everyday now, listening whenever I go for walks or do housework. It’s so easy to listen to and the way the hosts bounce off each other is always wonderful. I absolutely love this podcast and tell everyone about it!

What a gift this podcast is!
I am only sad it took me so long to find this. A wide variety of topics and linguistic disciplines, and each episode finds a way to meander down related side paths. When one of the hosts says she was learning Dutch for fun, so of course she started following Dutch linguists on Twitter, I thought, “I’ve found my people!”

An addictive podcast on a fascinating field!
I can’t stop listening to Lingthusiasm! My friends and family love hearing fun linguistics facts (did you know a typical six year old can do wonky verb conjugations but still can’t accurately identify colors? Or that the ISS has a sort of Russian-English pidgin? Or that...oh just listen for yourself). And I am fascinated by the diversity of linguistics as the field, and I’m infected with the hosts’ enthusiasm. Thanks so much!

    Great and fun podcast
Both wonky and accessible, really interesting for any curious person

    Clever and charming
This is really fun! Thought-provoking, and makes complex, heady concepts accessible.
  • Daveiii
    Enthusiastic for Lingthusiam!
I’m not a linguist, so pretty much everything on this podcast is new and exciting to me. That being said, I don’t think you have to be a newbie word nerd to love Gretchen and Lauren’s conversations about language. There’s great banter, intelligent guests, and lots of silly humor. Check it out and hear for yourself!

    Very engaging
Linguistic insights with an upbeat interaction between two friendly women, one Aussie, one Canadian.

Hire a sound engineer and a studio!
Content is fascinating but echoes, sirens, ambient sounds? So unnecessary in 2019.

    Interesting, Approachable, and Knowledgeable
I have been listening to this podcast for several months now but am working my way from the beginning to now. Gretchen and Lauren have a great rapport and lots of linguistics background and knowledge to teach anyone and everyone. I was a linguistics undergrad major and they remind me of many things that I learned then and miss talking about and learning more about now. They also bring up a variety of examples in other languages since they have a few languages under their belts. I am asking Santa for Gretchen's book this Christmas! I have an IPA tattoo that helps keep me grounded to my love of language and phonetics. Thank you Lauren and Gretchen for providing this amazing podcast! I just became a Patreon because I just cannot get enough of them! THANK YOU!

    My new favorite podcast
I listened to the the July 23rd Lexicon Valley where John McWhorter interviews Gretchen and immediately began listening to this podcast. I binged the whole backlog in 11 days and now I’m considering becoming a Patreon supporter so I can listen to the rest of it. Entertaining and educational!

    My Favorite Podcast atm
I have always been fascinated by the use of language and etymology and foreign languages. This podcast perfectly captures that fascination. The hosts are divine in their enjoyment and presentation of the subject matter. I can literally hear them smiling talking about some of these topics. Listening to this has been an absolute joy and I hope you don’t stop making them any time soon. Always learning, always languaging, Colten

    Great fun!
The hosts have such a good time you can’t help but be part of the fun. Both enjoyable and enriching.

    Smart conversations by intelligent women
I love this podcast! Gretchen and Lauren are clearly passionate about their field and it is wonderful listening to them tackle various subjects within the Linguistics world. The only exposure I had prior to this podcast was one Intro to Linguistics class in college and I still feel like I can follow along pretty easily. I wonder if there’s any chance of putting together a Natural Language Processing episode anytime soon? Thanks Lauren and Gretchen!!

    🎯
so good! smart talk NOT annoyingly watered down for podcast listeners, for once (many thanks for that). i’m here for content; i prefer it to slick podcast production and spending half the podcast time Being Gently Led through Today’s Topic with Excessive Framing and Narrative Flourish. your mileage may vary.

    A fun linguistics chat
I love this podcast. Its very fun and every episode is a treat! I’m an interpreter, and it’s always really fun for me to look at languages the way the nice ladies on this show do. And it’s just fun to hear two people who are passionate about something talk about it. A must subscribe!

    Lighthearted, entertaining, and informative
This podcast is wonderful. It’s approachable for any layman and informative for any one interested in linguistics (or someone that does not yet know she is interested in linguistics). This podcast is warm, lighthearted and fun, I’ve come to it many times when I’m feeling sour or down and it’s lifted me up. I find myself laughing with Gretchen and Lauren, and smiling ear to ear as I dive into a shared human experience through language. I’ve learned so much about linguistics from these two intelligent ladies. They cover a wide range of topics and dive just deep enough so you get a well-rounded understanding, and they do this in such a way that most people will understand. It’s brilliant. I suggest this podcast to many people, and it’s so great, it is one of the few podcasts I support as a patron via patreon. I’ve even purchased some of their wonderful merchandise, my favorite is a shirt that reads “I want to be like the English Schwa It’s never stressed”

    So smart and fun
I teach linguistics and I would kill to have their passion, knowledge, and ability to make topics fun and accessible. Luckily I can just make my students listen!

    My First Ever Podcast
I'm barely 17, but I've known about linguistics since age 12 and I've planned to get a degree in it since about age 15. That being said, I've never found linguistics resources done in a way that anyone--regardless of education level--could understand and follow. This was that resource! I started listening to podcasts just for this specific one because I love it so much. Wish I could pledge, but I sadly don't quite have the money right now :/
