For The Love With Jen Hatmaker Podcast

6,097

New York Times bestselling author Jen Hatmaker and her longtime friend, Amy Hardin, have arrived in the middle years — and they couldn’t be happier about it. Each has navigated the ins and outs of life — from careers, to parenting, marriage (and, for Jen, divorce), spiritual evolution, and the joys of being hardcore Gen Xers. With each weekly episode, Jen and Amy serve as our “everywoman” guides to all the seasons — past, present, and future — as they walk excitedly and tenaciously into the second half of life. While Jen and Amy have plenty of wisdom to share — and some pretty hilarious stories, too — they don’t claim to know it all. That's why they invite some of the most interesting and accomplished guests to the podcast, bringing insight, expertise, and understanding to the most relevant topics of our time. From Jen and Amy’s compelling conversations with guests to their witty banter (and the occasional eye-rolls at the absurdities of life), they’re here reassure you that you’re not alone in this game of life. It’s “For the Love” of all that is good, justified, exasperating, exhilarating, real, fun — and so much more.

    Enjoyable but….
I really enjoy this podcast and the guests. I’ve been listening since its inception. I feel like I learn something-usually about myself-every time I listen to it. But it’s really annoying the way the commercials pop in right in-typically the middle of a sentence! It’s so disruptive to the content and the value of what’s being shared. Please find a way to wait until the end of the sentence or at least put a pause in before inserting the product endorsements so we know the thought is changing. I’m also not a big fan of the little musical intros to the fun topics at the beginning of most episodes….I do like those topics and the interaction between Jen and Amy….just not the quippy jingles.

    She’s jumped the shark
I used to never miss an episode, as I found her guests so enlightening or entertaining. I loved her books. But now I can hardly stand to listen to her. She no longer seems authentic or relevant to me. So sorry, Jen. You have enough fans that I’m sure I will not be missed.

    So much time wasting!
Checked this out for the first time to hear Chip Leighton and was so disappointed that half the show was just random boring chit chat and no guest!

    Not A Fan
I wanted to listen to the episode with Bethany Joy Lenz, and I tried but had to cut it short. Way too much yapping prior to BJL coming on and too many ads for my liking. The transition of ads is not done well. The format of how the ads were on is meh. Some of the language was not for me. This was my first time trying to listen to this podcast host, and it will be the last time.

    always soul enhancing!
Jen’s sense of humor, perspectives, guests, and banter are a fantastic balm to my sometimes weary soul! 😀🙌🏼

    Bummed to feel this way
I feel horrible saying this but I feel really confused with the new format! I have loved this podcast and the guests you have been able to get over the years. Back in 2020 the Black Lives Matter series, the food series, the comedy series you have done have been top notch! Jen is an incredible interviewer but the new cohost adds nothing and only takes away! Truly nothing against her as a person at all, I would just strongly suggest kindly saying goodbye to her as cohost and keeping her as your bestie instead. I love you Jen so much nothing personal just some real feedback.

    Fellow 92 Grad!
Just listened to the Colbert one. And omg, laughing! I too wore a bf’s ring, but on a chain around my neck for my Junior picture, I die a little bit inside every time I see that one. Thanks for the laughs! xo

    Good content, TERRIBLE audio
Updated 1/25/2025: Y’all. I left my first review YEARS ago and STILL with the audio issues! I honestly don’t know why I keep expecting it to get better. ALSO, what’s with the weird ad placements popping in literally mid-sentence? I’m convinced that no one from the production team has actually listened to the show in its current full format because there’s no way they would be proud of this. Please, FOR THE LOVE, do better! I want to like this podcast, but the audio quality is SO. BAD. C’mon guys. For a podcast that has been around for several years, I would think the audio would be better by now. I only listen to maybe a third of every podcast before I get so annoyed with the audio that I give up and move on to another podcast. Please upgrade your audio equipment!

    Took a turn
I hate saying this because I do love Jen, but I really dislike the new format, and no shade to the cohost, but she is not a positive addition. The addition of the cohost has made the podcast boring and almost somber. Jen has a vibrant personality but it feels dimmed with the cohost. The audio has also gotten worse, which is an interesting turn for a podcast to take. These factors make me less interested in listening now, when I used to look forward to a new show.

    You have a drinking problem
Maybe you need to have a NO list for 2025 that includes no more booze because girl you look like and sound like you have a drinking problem. I’ve followed you for 12 years and I hope you get the help you need. Why your friends let you go on a podcast and camera like this is… there are no words. Most episodes and posts you seem drunk out of your mind or hungover. I really hope you can get the healing you need.

    Changes Are Needed
As a longtime listener, I find the addition of Amy - who I’m sure is a lovely person - to be unnecessary. It has broken the format that listeners were used to. I find myself skipping the first twenty minutes; I’m not interested in that length of random gabbing. If they want to do a weekly podcast or Instagram live of said random gabbing that is a separate release from the guest interview, that would be much preferred. Unfortunately, Amy’s lack of expertise in the podcast arena shows as her question are interjected awkwardly and land heavily. I wish for any future interviews to be solely conducted by Jen alone, like they used to be, and for that to be the entire episode. The quality of this podcast has really gone downhill and I don’t enjoy listening anymore. As someone who has long supported Jen’s work, I hope she listens to what many people here are saying, myself included.

    Interrupts
First of all, I have no idea why two women were chatting for a long time before introducing the guest. Second, I don’t know that I’ve ever heard anyone ask such long and redundant questions. Third, the host should let the guest speak; I don’t want to hear “ahhhh” and “so good” every 30 seconds.

Great host and interesting Guest ..
Love this podcast.. so easy to listen to at night without a lot of loud music and breaks.. each guest is so interesting .. you feel like you are there with them!
  • CLJS121
    Still love Jen
Longtime listener…but the production value on the podcast is really struggling these days. Between audio issues and abrupt transitions to ad breaks, it’s difficult to get through episodes lately. Jen has some great guests on the show, and I hope some of the issues can get worked out as the team settles into this new format.
  • learnbyhand
    New format…not for me
Long time listener. Without any personal disrespect intended, the addition of Amy is not a plus for me. Really changes the flow and feel of the whole podcast. The beginning chat/ banter is painful and I find myself skipping ahead to the main conversation. The questions Amy asks land awkwardly and her lack of finesse drawing the subject out actually brings the professionalism of the interview down a few notches. Again, not personal but definitely not an improvement for me.

    Mixed
If it weren’t for Bobby, I would’ve given this only 2 stars, Jen and her friend seemed so forced. Plus, this pod has so many commercials without any music/ warning, so you often think that Jen is talking completely out of context until you realize, this is a commercial.
  • Yankee 58
    Move it along ...
I normally love the pod, but the pre-interview chatter is unrelated, and getting monotonous. It takes up nearly half the time slot for Stanley Tucci! Have a host buddy, and ads, but pick up the pace!!
  • Betsypepine
    Love this!
Love Jen’s books and this podcast. I appreciate the topics and integrity of the guests. My new go-to for my long runs! Thank you Jen.

feels like a miss as of late
i am a jen fan from day one and that wont change, to be clear. but i have to be honest that i am not loving the new format. i was very interested in the interview with leanne morgan and kinda just skipped over the first several minutes because it just wasnt engaging. part of the value is in the conversation and a couple of minutes if banter upfront seems fine but it feels like its occupying too much space. jmo.

    Nope
My friend forwarded me this podcast for one specific episode, and it wasn’t a complete waste of time, but I don’t know how anyone can listen to Jen for more than three minutes. Her personality and voice are so annoying, and she has all the unhealthy traits of an enneagram three. I just can’t.
  • mommasteph1990
    No. Just no.
I used to listen relentlessly for years but lately I cannot. She’s gotten so far from who she was. So liberal to just be liked! Yet she claims she is a follower of Jesus. Go woke go broke.

The Only Constant - interview with Najwa Zebian
Oh how I loved this interview 🩷 It truly resonated in such a powerful way, especially as someone who is navigating the change in life of empty nesting and finding my purpose. Although my own childhood was far less outwardly traumatic than hers, I’ve taken a similar path unpacking my own “stuff” in therapy and have come to similar conclusions. About how we label ourselves and become our own worst critic. And the best part being that it’s never too late to change and grow. I can’t wait to read her book!

    Small Production Suggestion
I love learning and being challenged by this podcast!!!!! My only wish is that there would be a ding or small sound indicating a commercial is coming. Because Jen does all her own commercials in her voice, it can be startling if there is a deep conversation going on which is often the case and then… BOOM! Her exciting voice promoting a product! That’s all… simple fix. Otherwise, love love love this podcast!

    Just what I needed
I am about to have a difficult conversation with a lifelong friend. Her recent move to NC where I have lived for over 30 years has changed the dynamic, This insight, information and guidance was extremely helpful.

The interview was so boring, this guy constantly talked about himself with no content. It was so boring.

    Beautiful
Jen’s words are always a balm. She’s thoughtful, kind and doesn’t shy away from nuance. Thanks to her and her team for great content!

    Audio
The audio is so bad.. I feel Ike your in a closet echoing. I love the guests and topics but audio I just can’t do

Great Show, but needs improved audio
The content of the show is interesting and conversational. I’ve been a listener for years, so this is from a ride or die, but lately, the audio has gotten so poor that I notice myself skipping it. On a platform where audio is all the audience has to consume, it becomes pretty difficult to listen through. There were points in time where the audio used to be good/better, but the last several years, it’s struggled. It’s highly noticeable that 9/10 times, the guest has professional audio, which really plays up the quality issue on Jen’s side. If you can only make one improvement, please invest in better quality audio. Thanks and love the show!

    Audio quality
I would love to listen to this podcast more but the audio quality is very challenging to understand what is being said.

    Empowering show
Love the show and the topics!

    Want more Nate
    1. I would rather hear what the guest has to say. Need WAY less commentary from Jen and Tyler. 2. The audio quality is horrible. I could barely finish the episode.

Jenn, get a new microphone! lol
LOVE the podcast but man, you gotta get a better mic or a better sound mixer; it’s so echo-ey and scratchy. Love the podcast otherwise!
  • Kimmy Sue Sang
Great Content but c’mon with commercials!
Far less well known podcasters don’t have any advertisements… let alone the slew of them that interrupt this podcast midstream throughout. Very distracting. Not worth it.

Love the show, hate the audio quality
I live this podcast but find it hard to listen to because of the poor audio. It always sounds so echo-y. Only love, just wanted to share the feedback.

How is the sound so awful?
I mean. Also how annoying is Jen?

    Disability/Amy Kenny
Loved this show! I have a 32 yr old disabled son, so all of it was relevant and helpful! I'm also thrilled to find out my local library in Berkeley, Ca. has Dr. Kenny's book.
  • kmsulli
Yes to disability acceptance and empowerment!
Just listened to your episode with Dr Amy Kenny. As mom to an amazing, disabled 23 year old, I was so happy to hear you share this message. Thank you for introducing your audience to terms like ableism, interdependence and inspiration porn. It was a wonderful show! Thank you both!

Jen Hatmaker partnering with the Gates Foundation? Why am I not surprised. Yiiiiikes.

Would prefer Less “saying” and more asking
I am stalling out on listening to this podcast. Jennifer seems brave, kind and willing to say and do the difficult thing and push the boundaries on topics. She schedules great guests. I should be a HUGE fan. My challenge is that TOO much of the podcast is about the host’s views and pondering. Why have a guest on if you will offer a long monologue disguised as a question? I find myself either jumping ahead 30 or wanting to go find the guest on another podcast or get even the basics of their stance. I can tell the host is in learning mode, but maybe it’s better to let the guest share and leave more of the learning and digesting to the listener.

    Great content needs better sound
Great podcast chock full of meaningful content especially for middle aged women going through a transition. The sound quality could be improved significantly for the host with a good mix and a smaller recording space!
  • Maxcraft430
    Excellent
Happy, fun podcast. I would love if you would interview the 2 podcasters that play Paul and Sasha on the hilarious, satirical podcast “Community News with Paul and Sasha.” Their backgrounds in TV and comedy sound so interesting and their show is great like yours. I hope you have them as future guests.
  • Margo Hikes A Lot
    Fun and fluffy
I turn to Jen when I need a boost of smiley happy energy. I enjoy her guests and being introduced to their perspectives. Sometimes there is too much Jen in the interview. She usually asks an enormously long question (one of my pet peeves, I must admit) and doesn’t let her guest answer it fully without her jumping back in. I needed the idea of Me Camp (been doing it for a few years but didn’t have a cute uplifting name for it.) This year I did We Camp with my new beloved. Jen is fun. I learn a lot. But she sells a lot of stuff and it is distracting for me. Happy listening

    All about Jen
I love some of Jens guests but on the whole listening to this podcast I find instead of learning, being inspired..it is more “learning about Jen.” A whole episode on her romantic relationship? A whole episode on how her cookbook was made and then another one where the cookbook is the book of the month and someone is interviewing her? She has a lot of fans and normally when you are a fan of someone you want to learn more about them..but finding when the next episode comes up in my feed I am checking first to see if the episode will once again be “all about Jen. So many podcasts…not sure how long I will stay subscribed to this one.

    So Awesome!!
This is a go-to podcast for me. Excellent content, high energy, great guests and such authenticity all the way around. Pure grace!!!

    Audio 👎
I love Jen! I love her podcasts! I went to her live event in Austin :) but it’s hard to listen to her podcast because the audio is so bad. I have to constantly turn the volume up and then down a lot of times. I can’t understand everything she saying it almost sounds like she’s in a closet or something is wrong with the microphone. I’m not sure what it is but the sound quality is so bad.

    The AUDIO
Love Jen, but the audio on so many episodes is really awful. Was excited to listen to this family episode, but couldn’t get through it. :(

    Relatability
I loved the podcast with Tyler… you two are real, raw & honest. I’m not at all in the same place as you in a relationship & still felt it was so relatable. I adore what each of you do separately & even more the force for good you are together! I’m so grateful for you both in this world!

    Refreshing!
Jen’s voice is so authentic and so needed. Her books, podcast, social media posts are a gift to us with her humor and wisdom!
