Great podcast diving into the Bible and giving context and clarity to God’s word. Grateful for this teaching and for the further encouragement to dive into the Bible more!

I use Dr Mackie’s podcasts here and on Bible Project to grasp the big picture , glean other resources and borrow an eye opening phrase or two (with attribution) as I prepare weekly lectures for my Community Bible Study class in Houston, Texas. This year we are studying the gospel of Matthew one chapter per week. Listening to Mackie’s teaching makes me nerd out with him on Scripture and always unwraps some golden ticket of delight and illumination I had not seen on my own. I have no formal training so Dr Mackie is the perfect teacher. Thanks , Tim.

Love this podcast recommend for 10-14 year olds

If you have no idea what the Bible’s talking about, find it too boring to make it through a page, or aren’t sure why it even matters… this is for you. Turns out it’s amazing!! So glad I found this.

I realize I am super late to make a review on a podcast that ran for 2 years between 2017 and 2019, but I heard about this from one of The Bible Project podcasts (which I also discovered late…but not AS late). And I wish I could get a message to Tim Mackie. God just always seems to know what I need and Tim has a way of talking about the Bible, Yahweh, history and language that has been so helpful in just straight up learning who God is. I won’t go into my personal story in a podcast review so I’ll just say THANK YOU! If you would have told me a year ago I’d be so interested in a skate boarding preacher from Portland, OR, I would have laughed and said “Riiiiight” (cue meme of Dr Evil).

I am so thankful for Dr Mackie and this podcast. His clear and direct teaching of scripture and his reasoning, background and humility are needed. His love of the Hebrew Bible and his teaching have made me better know YHWH and his character. It is as relevant to me as a Christian as the NT

The more I listen the more I realize that the Bible is a big story about love which is Jesus. I love how the breakdown of words from the original language can make the truth come out. These teachings have cultivated my understanding of the Gospel like no other. Tim is so evidently led by the Spirit, and his doctoral background in Hebrew scripture certainly helps! I have listened to nearly every episode, yet some I return to again and again for replenishing hope in our God. Thank you, Tim, for making this invaluable resource accessible to Christians, nonbelievers, and anyone curious about the Bible. Tim has a way of bringing me in and hang in his every word. His teaching is attention grabbing. I could listen to him all day. Great story teller and Bible teacher.

Had to stop listening at a half episode (the Crocus Flower and the Empty Tomb) due to gross inaccuracies. The speaker states that none of the Twelve were eyewitnesses of the Crucifixion. Has the speaker never read the Gospel of John, 19:26-27? He also implies that none of the Twelve followed Jesus after He was arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane; it seems the speaker purposefully does not want to recall John 18:15-16, which talks of Peter and John being present outside the trial of Jesus, or Mark 66 which talks of Peter’s presence. The speaker is trying to make a point about the importance of women to Jesus’ ministry and in doing so misleads his listeners. It makes it appear he has an agenda rather than trying to provide clear, full context in teaching; which undermines his credibility. There are too many other resources available to waste time and potentially negatively affect spiritual growth in God’s Word by listening to someone either without adequate knowledge to teach, or with an agenda meant to mislead.

The teachings on this podcast are so perspective shifting. I listened to it a few years ago at the beginning of what turned out to be a really hard season in my life. It was used to draw me into the scriptures with a willingness to see what they had to say about Jesus, instead of what I thought was said. I’m now listening to it again. Thank you Tim and Bible Project, your work is used to change lives.

I’m grateful for the blessing of this podcast. Mr Mackie is a great teacher. The Bible comes alive.

Be prepared to see the Bible in a new light. These sermons are rich with God’s truth, grace, and love.

These sermons have stirred in me such a deep love and devotion to Jesus and His word. I never spent much time in my Bible in my life, but since listening to the Gospel According to Matthew 6 months ago, it’s my favorite part of my day. Thank you Tim for loving Jesus and history so much. Your love opened my eyes and inspired me to seek a relationship with our maker, and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done. Only complaint is that I wish there were new sermons being put out.

Just found this podcast and can’t get enough. Tim has a way of explaining the Bible that is both informative and interesting. I’ve known Jesus for decades but this is helping me know Jesus now in new ways.

Love Tims ability to share the scope of this complex wonderful book. He’s helped me overcome a lifetime in a heavily authoritarian ministry who taught me what to think. I love the multitude of ways Tim helps me see the Bible from a whole new perspective, removing my old lenses to see it all afresh. A completely beautiful podcast with wonderful practical applications that have changed my life in meaningful ways.

Tim has a lifetime of knowledge that he is giving sermons on and it never disappoints! Wish there were more!

It’s hard to decide if I like this more than the Bible Project podcast. It’s hard to beat the back and forth between Tim and Jon on the BP podcast, but I really learned a ton from Tim’s messages in this podcast, and his style is super winsome but lets you feel the weight of scripture coming down. I am on my second time through. Just listened to Jonah for a third time. So rad! Thanks Tim and whoever took the time to pull all these together. Such a valuable teaching resource.

I am always surprised by how Tim’s sermons and teachings touch my heart and hep me grow as a follower of Jesus. Just when I think I’ve heard the story or message before, he sheds light on the Bible for me in a way I’ve never before experienced.

This is the fifth time I have read the Bible in a year. I wish I knew about this podcast the first year I read the Bible because this has completely changed my understanding of the Bible. It gives you a whole new and wonderful way to see the Bible and all the history and back-stories. I feel like I was doing Bible “lite” before listening to this. Be sure to start with episode one and then follow straight through with the Book of Jonah. BTW that is not a story about a whale 🐳.

Tim Mackie brings out the comedy, irony and absolute power of the book of Jonah. His knowledge, attitude and sincere joy in God’s Word is contagious. How refreshing to learn and grow with explanations that are researched and easy to understand. Putting things in context and explaining the connotation of words and stories used to teach us about Jesus makes it easier to form a personal relationship with Jesus. I highly recommend this.

I became familiar with Tim thru the Bible project. I am a Portland area local and hearing him reference local haunts like oaks park and hearing how he was saved at skate church (my son and I have been there several times) was very refreshing. I grew up in the california surf/skate culture of the 70’s and still ride today. His ability to see the scriptures from a new perspective really has captivated my attention. Thoroughly enjoy his desire to reveal Jesus and the Christian life in practical daily living it out terms. His Ephesians series is excellent.
