Very informative for new goat owners like me.
I am fairly new to goat ownership; I'm milking for personal/family use in a small backyard homestead setup. I’m very busy so I don’t have a lot of spare time to sit around reading and researching every little eventuality with my newest charges but I do want what is best for my does and our family. I can listen to Dr. Shepard while I’m working or driving and get more in depth look at all the ins and outs of good goat husbandry. I’m feeling way more informed and prepared for what may come rather than just reacting to situations and what if’s. I really appreciate that she approaches and discusses each topic with a multi faceted solutions rather than just the way she prefers doing things. I also appreciate that she says when she is unsure of something or doesn’t have as much experience with certain methods so she can’t speak on it as well it just makes me feel she has a lot of integrity in what she does.

    Layman physiology
I love when Dr. Shepard talks physiology. It is a great help to understand why or why not to include certain common management practice protocols. Love to hear anatomy and physiology that is well explained!!!

    skip ahead-great podcast
I love this podcast I just wish it was about 40% less introduction, random stream of thought, car driving noise. If you just auto skip the first 5-9 minutes of basically every episode you’ll get to the actual beginning of content.

    Beyond the basics
Just found the podcast and it’s on my list for binge listening. Love it. She does a great job of starting with the basics and going into depth from there.

Loving this podcast. I’ve been raising goats in California for ten years. I really appreciate the through info and love that Cara is a vet. I will be adding Goat Talk with the Goat Doc to my sale/ information/ bill of sale write up.

    So helpful!
Love learning from the Goat Doc!! Calf vet here and I get questions about goats periodically so it’s nice to have a few tools in my brain to offer clients and be able to help them with their calves and their goats. Love hearing the progress of her personal farm and it is inspiring how far the farm has come! Looking forward to more episodes and education!! Thanks for making this!

This is such a helpful podcast!
I’m a small animal DVM who took a few small ruminant electives back in school, but now need all the refresher info because were finally getting goats this spring. I appreciate the practical advice and how to avoid issues. I love several goat podcasts, but this is the one I needed to find. Thank you!

    Stellar!
Loving this podcast. I’ve raised goats for 15 years and accurate, evidence based information is incredibly difficult to find—as are specialty goat vets. I can’t say enough good things about the information presented here and the peace of mind it provides.

    Great informative
The show is Informative but recording while driving down the highway with the windows open, the background road noise makes it almost impossible to listen to.

    New to Goats
As a new goat owner, finding resources that are accurate and science based regarding goats has been difficult. This podcast has been great for a new guy like me to help expand my knowledge and lessen the learning curve while building my herd. I look forward to listening to all the old podcasts and learning from someone that is not only professionally trained, but also passionate about goats. Most vets don’t know that much about goats, so finding one that is sharing her experience and knowledge about them is refreshing.

    Great Source for Goat Education!
I found The Goat Doc by just searching “goat” in Apple Podcasts. I love how much information she provides and how the episodes are organized and titled for easy searching. For someone who is looking to get into goats in the near future, this podcast has been a blessing. There is very little information out there on goats that isn’t the same information being regurgitated. Dr. Cara provides a veterinary perspective on the topics, and I LOVE it!

    A must for goat lovers!
This is definitely a must for goat lovers. I just randomly came across this and it was a pleasant surprise to find this podcast. We’ve had goats for quite a few years and recently formed a nonprofit rescue and sanctuary. So this podcast is a great educational piece or refresher.

Goat vets are hard to find
I stumbled upon this podcast a couple months ago. I have a small herd (40-50) Boer goats in San Diego and am always looking for more wisdom on how to care for my goats. Anyone who has goats will tell you that finding a good vet with knowledge and a passion for goats is a challenge. Cara provides that on this podcast. I am slowly working my way through all the old episodes and plan to be a loyal listener in the future.
  • newgoatmom
    Great for new goat parents!
I have been in the process of preparing to be a goat mom for a few months now and at my last trip to Blue Seal (I love going in and just chatting with the people there, they are all so knowledgeable) someone recommended Cara. I looked her up and found this podcast and immediately did a little dance because I LOVE PODCASTS! I have also been really loving my research on goats but really wanted to hear from a vet to be absolutely sure I knew what was coming once my kids come. After every episode, I learn something new and I feel a lot more confident in becoming a goat mom. I am getting two wethers as pets, and a lot of the talk is about large herds, but I still love it and highly recommend it! Thank you Blue Seal for telling me about Dr. Shepard and thank you Dr. Shepard for putting this info out into the podcast world!
  • Clearwater Gus
    Great information
Great advice and information...very helpful as we start our herd!

    Will you add more podcasts?
We raise beautiful boers in the great northwest and our herd is part of our family! We have really appreciated your podcast Cara! I know we are in a pandemic but please add more podcasts. We hope all is well with your farm and business. Can you talk about dandruff? We have two colored does who have dandruff. I’m wondering if this is a certain mineral deficiency or why they seem to always have this. It’s not lice. And it only seems to be my colored does suffering with ongoing dandruff. Thank you for the podcast we look forward to more info!

    Best goat podcast!
When I first got into goats in 2018, I scoured podcasts for anything goat related that I could listen to on my commute to work. I stumbled onto this podcasts a few episodes in and have been an avid listener ever since! I listen to these episodes over and over in the car. Great information! Thank you Dr Shepard!
  • Lazygoat13
    You’re very helpful
Even if you only have two goats as I do, a problem or two may occur. I’ve found that by listen to your podcast that you’ve educated me to provide better care. I love my goats. Thank you!

    Very info
I’m just getting in to raising dairy goats and this podcast has been really helpful in providing quality, informed information to help me learn.
  • Thanks Goat Doc!
    Great Resource!
I have been a goat farmer for 6 years now and one of the most frustrating things is getting misinformation and conflicting information from both other goat owners and even from large animal vets with limited goat experience. I read a LOT about goats and there is some really bad advice out there. As Dr. Shepard is both a long time goat owner and a vet, it gives me great reassurance to hear her point of view. This is a great resource for both new and old goat owners.
  • Mikeinloomis
    Amazing!
Cara has amazing information to share and her straightforward delivery makes complicated topics understandable.

    Goat Talk rocks!
If you have goats, you’ll want to listen. You’ll learn, you’ll laugh, and you’ll be so glad you tuned in. I’m kind of sad I don’t live in Maine!

    Very Educational and Informative!!
As someone who had a rough start in the dairy goat world, this podcast is life!!! I find myself listening then going home and listening again just to take notes and study out what all she’s talking about..because, obsessions. We are blessed with a local vet who also raises and shows dairy goats and I would find myself asking her a million questions every time we hung out so Dr. Cara has definitely helped me learn a lot of intriguing goat info without so much ‘hey... can you explain why this is like this’. Thanks so much Dr. Shepherd!!
