Hosts seem bored and Mike doesn’t spark joy.

Sonny and Mike are great but JVL has just become insufferable the past few months. I used to gladly pay the Patreon monthly to support but have canceled it, it just isn’t the same since Vic left

I enjoy their banter to an extent however at least fifty percent of every episode is a recap of the three host’s personal weekly goings-on. When (if) they reach a point when they’re discussing the film review it’s highly entertaining and provides a great deal of unique insight and perspective. The show lost something when Vic left. There was something about his gout/alcohol binge tales and general disdain for the source material that made the forty-five minutes worth it. Lately I find myself pushing the 30 second skip far more often.

Arrogant, snide, smarmy little neo-con. Vic was the only likable one. The Bulwark is also hot garbage. These guys stink.

I’ve been listening for several years and the entire balance of the show is off without Vic. I’ll still listen and I’m still rating five stars for all the past joy the show has given me but it’s definitely less a fun listen now.

You’ll love it too without a GOUT!! Plz never leave me like that monster GENE! GGEEENNE! Love it! Boys will be boys but, Beacon boys will be gentleman! Best Catholic podcast around (Sorry Bishop Barron). If Sonny becomes catholic will Vic come return?

I agree with you guys on The Batman. The story was a mess. The Riddler cares about corruption then suddenly wants to drown the city, killing all the regular citizens who weren’t corrupt. All the twists fell flat. In a city so corrupt, it turns out the PC, DA, and mayor are in on it. Oh no, no one could ever see that coming. Boring. The Wayne’s are secretly bad, but not really. Boring. Zoe Kravitz as catwoman, hate it.

All three hosts are funny and interesting. Both Jonathan Last and Sonny Bunch surprise you with interesting, deep insights into the movies they discuss, and it’s more interesting when they disagree. Vic, the one extrovert of the three, hides the fact that he’s sharp as a tack and just has fun, but he actually has a lot of good insights mixed in with his joking around. I wait for this podcast every week.

This show used to be great. Vic is talented. And his ordinary guy perspective complements Sonny’s critical approach perfectly. But JVL is arrogant, condescending, patronizing, sanctimonious, smug, and egotistical, all while (perhaps not ironically) being wrong about almost everything. That they made him the host of the show, instead of phasing him out, will endure as a mystery long after a theory of quantum gravity has been validated.

These guys are hilarious and have intelligent takes about the latest in film and television. Light hearted way to enjoy an afternoon. Great banter, they seem like true friends and I love how in depth they go in their exploration of their topics! Listener for life!

Update Nov 2020: the boys are back! Visit SubBeacon.com and join their Patreon. Show your support so they keep making new episodes! I look forward to each episode the way people in the 90s looked forward to Seinfeld each week. The correct way to consume is to listen on Thursday morning, then go watch the “movie review of the week” on Friday, then re-listen again on Saturday. I’ve been listening to these guys for a couple of years now, and they never failed to entertain me until they vanished with no new episodes since September and no explanation of when they’ll return. 😢 Please come back! My playlist has been much too serious of late.

Loved this podcast, listened to it every week. Guess now that JVL and Sonny are with the Bulwalk they’re not allowed to come out and play with Vic anymore.

Vic is fun, Sonny is always right, and JVL is a miserable pit of despair who brings the vibe down every episode!

It doesn't matter who you are or what you know; know that JVL is better than you. I'll give it to him though - he resisted saying the quiet part out loud for longer than I expected. At this point, he is just vile and insufferable. At least I was able to capture all the original episodes as they are still enjoyable on repeat.

Great show, but when will JVL admit he was wrong to be bearish about Netflix? It's stock is up 2.5x since 2017 when he first called it overvalued on the substandard

Call me an animal, but I’m really glad they’ve ceased bleeping. They use profanity so rarely that when they do it serves to sharpen the statement delightfully. Bleeping blunts the edge. Grow up. And JVL is fantastic.

Gout has little to do with food, just take allopurinol and you will have no more gout. You don’t get rid of your uric acid and allopurinol helps get rid of it. The food thing is somewhat related but eliminating the targeted food is not usually good enough.

I had a nightmare last night that the guys decided to end the SubBeacon. This proves that I need a life. But seriously, it would be so sad. Y'all make me laugh every week, thanks!

As an avid listener for the last several years, I’m disappointed by the deterioration of fun and quality of the podcast the last several months. From the occasional gratuitous F-bombs from JVL and Sonny, to the lack of new and compelling content to discuss, the podcast has become a grind to listen to. Vic is still great, but JVL and Sonny have become bitter and loathsome to hear. JVL has always been grievously irritable but now Sonny is unbearably peevish. Time to unsubscribe.

This is by far the best podcast I have ever heard!!! My uncle (Vic) always makes it so much funnier. JVL is always great.Sunny is always great. Thank you so much for always brightening my day and being the best podcast ever!

The Podcast for all its bad ideas and opinions -- no one can believe that Sonny Bunch and Victorino believe all the things they say that are so wrong. But the worst is JVL. He has the Bulwark Brain Worms, to be fair, he always had. For a supposedly Trad Catholic, his veniality knows no bounds and his absolute lack of any perspective is demonstrated not just on the bilge posted on the Bulwark, but his actual embracing of all veniality that anyone could come up with and just being plain catty and nasty. It's an almost great podcast, but JVL's insistence on why he's so great all the time is just tiresome. Even if JVL is as great and has as many wonderful venial desires that he gets to indulge as he says he does, who cares? At best he's a bore, if someone really believes in Catholic teaching, there might be some motes in his eyes. It makes the Podcast horrible. Read this out on air boys!

Love you guys!!! My idea is talking about films one of you hates but the other two enjoys and talking about why you love/hate that film in detail. Just a thought. Or cinematic shows (breaking bad, Waco, GOT, etc.)

How can you rank Russell Crowe movies and not include or even mention Master and Commander? That is a wonderful movie that deserves some honorable mention.

Sonny needs to become Catholic ASAP so he can confess his love of profanity. Bring back the bleeping, or at least the “please stand by” elevator music. But I still love you guys!

He’s always the one to bring up politics and his love of Layer Cake night even be a bigger letdown than his anti-Americanism. I started to watch it and had to turn it off 30 minutes in. I couldn’t understand what they were saying. And that’s WITH subtitles! Just terrible. I’m going to watch Sucker Punch now just to wash the awful taste out of my mouth. Also Vic is good

Love this show, but Jonathan’s rant on Americans about tiger king was ridiculous. I didn’t vote for Trump, but his rude assumption about all of Americans was gross. I’m sure he will wear this review as a badge of honor, but gross.
