Had heard a bunch about Project 2025 but this pre election series really alerted me to the dangers of Project 2025 and how it will impact folks. Thanks for this. Love the show.

So, a podcast comes out that addresses the specific political nuances that affect women of color, and a bunch of people who most likely don’t have to live their lives through those nuances are mad because this podcast doesn’t coddle their privilege? Oh brother…🙄🙄🙄 Love this podcast! Keep it up!!

You think you’re discriminated against when there are literally laws that allow you to have better chances of being selected for a job or scholarship purely because of your race, in this country. Grow up, nobody owes you anything. You’ll get exactly what you work hard enough to get, which is more than someone focuses entirely on blaming all their problems on one race of people (that also makes you racist), deserves.

Can I identify as brown to listen?

I’m a Hispanic feminist from Uruguay. I feel like I don’t fit the mold they want. I agree with the women’s rights causes but I’m more secular and moderate than these women. Women who have other views need to be heard as well

Remember that great man that spoke real truth with such an earth shattering force that we thought he’d be forever immortalized as one of the greatest men to ever live? Martin Luther King Jr.? Yeah let’s just throw that guy in the garbage I guess. Let’s all forget the contents of our characters and focus SOLELY on the color of our skin. I can’t believe where we’ve come to. And I wonder if this is a “blatantly racist” hate comment...

This podcast confronts POC issues, woman’s issues and their intersections.

I have an MPH in Health Policy and I cannot say enough how much this podcast touches upon everything that I have learned and teaches me as well as gives me insight in work that needs to be done. The guests on the show are amazing, empowering women who inspire me to make space for myself unapologetically.

I am so excited to listen every week to the immense insight and level of nuance provided by your guests many of whom are very experienced women of color that are trailblazing within the many fields that impact our political playground whether it be through immigration reform, reproductive justice, and voter suppression which affect so many of our communities. This podcast inspires me as a first generation woc on how organizing and social equity impact is so vital to the important political moments we are faced with today.

Brown Girl’s Guide to Politics gives a helpful under represented perspective on politics.

I love this podcast. As a Brown Girl who understands the importance of being informed of the political situations we deal with in our country, it’s nice to hear perspectives similar to my own. These are important conversations and it’s refreshing to know that there are spaces to have the conversations that are overlooked in regards to women of color. Thank you!

I am relatively new to this podcast but have loved every episode so far. I love A’shanti Gholar’s soothing voice and thoughtful questions. My one request: please update the show notes with the names of the speakers so I can do more reading and learning. Thank you for your work!!

These is a show about highlighting POC women in politics and civic orgs. I’m grateful for shows like this that gives a platform to progressive POC folks. Those writing negative reviews are clearly racist and sexist. It is obvious who the audience for this show is. If these is not something you are interested in or care about, don’t listen to it. But don’t write negative reviews based on your ignorance.

I look forward to new episodes because each guest is so knowledgeable and accessible. I immediately feel energized and motivated! Keep sharing our stories!

As a black man, I like listening to black women's unique perspective. It is encouraging to hear stories of people working for justice for everyone. We need people working everywhere so we can make access to the ballot box a permanent reality.

Biased nonsense.

This podcast is the oppression of Black Women the 46th Vice President has sent more Black men to prison than any other politician of her time. Listening to this makes me feel like I’m reliving slavery and the civil war. She puts black women and transgender in the same category. I’m sorry but Candace Owens is better

This show, and others like it that center the voices of women of color, make white conservatives incredibly uncomfortable (hence some negative reviews). But if they refuse to humble themselves and truly listen, this show is not for them. I love how A’shanti brings the vital voices of women of color to the forefront. She and her guests share powerful truths and encouragement for advocates of racial justice. I admire the work that A’shanti is doing with this podcast and as president of Emerge, an organization dedicated to recruiting and training Democratic women to run for political office. Policy makers have the power to shape our collective thinking as a nation, and changing racist policies is the only way forward if we are to truly root out racism. It’s vital that we have women, especially women of color, in these policy making roles.

Just discovered this conversation post-November election. White women and men, we have a lot of listening and acting to do to recognize and interrupt the systemic oppression of people of color in our communities. Step back and listen. Be informed when you take action. The people interviewed here are telling their truth, and I need to hear it to become better at being civically engaged. There are books to read, podcasts to listen to, and I delight in continuing to learn the true history of my country. If America is to live up to its purported ideals, this conversation is one among the many we need to hear and to heed. Then take action, and always, always if you see something racist, say something. Always.

Reviewers giving 1 Star I challenge you to check your privilege, socialization, and biases. Many of you I suspect submitted a review on the title alone without listening to a full episode. To BIPOC I am considered white, to white people I am considered BIOPC but have not experienced the racism and prejudice most BIOPC do. I sometimes get followed in a store or asked if I speak English. Big picture not a big deal considering people are dying. I share that to highlight racism is more nuanced and complex than the way many choose to define it today. Nazis and proud white supremacists are not the only white people guilty of racism. White people of all economic levels and political parties are guilty of racism in how we continue to support a system designed to oppress BIOPC while we benefit from it. Being a racism denier or worse a reverse racism crier create division not a podcast like. If you see the title and assume it’s anti-white that is an opportunity for you, your biases are showing, and you are wrong. Why do you assume something with Brown Girls in the title is not for everyone? Why do you assume you have nothing to learn from Brown girls? I came to this podcast to expand my knowledge base by hearing experiences of other people that I may not interact with everyday due to where I live. Instead of criticizing & gaslighting open your heart and mind and be thankful to Ashanti Gholar and her guests for taking their time to create this space. Why are you ok with rich white people creating content like this but not BIOPC? The logic or I should say lack of logic that because Ashanti and her guests may be doing well financially means capitalism is working and there is no racism against BIOPC shows a lack of critical thinking development. That is dangerous and I call on folks coming here with anger and outrage to focus that energy inward. Educate yourself more on the issues instead of centering yourself and making false claims that this podcast is racist. Be well!
