Substitute Teachers Lounge

34

There are LOTS of podcasts for teachers, but Substitute Teachers Lounge is the first podcast ever that also highlights substitute teachers. This podcast is aimed at giving ALL types of teachers the tools you need to teach in K-12 (elementary school, middle school, and high school), including administrative aspects as well as helping students receive everything they need to learn and feel special. We interview teachers, subs and students to make sure we have the information we need in order to "get it right". And, since it is a "lounge", you will have plenty of opportunities to share your stories too!

    What I needed!
I have just started subbing this month and I had been losing my mind because I couldn’t find anything catered to what I need to get tips and tools to be an effective substitute. This has been an invaluable resource and it’s helped me tremendously!

    From a Students Perspective
I know him personally and I can say he is a wonder human being and will always be there for you no matter what!! He was one of my favorite subs I ever had and no one ever called him Mr.Collins always Greg and he was the chillest teacher because if his methods worked with a bunch of gen z kids it must work well! Love you Greg best sub ever -Kenedee (You know i’m your favorite out of all my siblings)

    One man’s opinion
Keep in mind that this is the opinion of one economically privileged white man with limited experience. He did not work in the field and has not subbed for long. I’ve listened to several episodes and there haven’t been any interviews or other perspectives. He generalizes frequently and does not recognize that what works for him may not even be allowed elsewhere. Also, he’s only worked in one area doing a specific type of subbing. So what he recommends may not be applicable, advisable, or educationally sound practice.

    New Sub Teacher Here
I love to listen to old and new episodes. I am learning new things everyday on which it has helped me! I recently got hired and I have had a few sub positions. Thank you so much for doing these! I will recommend this podcast to my sub friends!

    Very insightful
I’m not even a teacher and I enjoy listening to Greg’s podcasts. A lot of what he says applies to more than just the classroom.

    Very helpful and encouraging podcast
I am planning to sub soon, and this podcast is so informative and encouraging. At first I thought I would only choose elementary, but now after listening to most episodes, I am more confident of trying middle, and maybe later HS. Thank you!!!

    It’s like listening to myself
Mr. Greg and I have the same philosophy on a lot of substitute-ish things, and it is so refreshing to hear him share his love of subbing and the joy he finds in working with the kids. I’ve subbed every day for several years now, in all grade levels as well as special settings classes. Subbing must be similar to being a grandparent - we can love them, listen to them, let them know they are important, guide them for a day or so and then give them back. As substitutes, we have the luxury of getting to just teach and love the kids, without having to attend meetings, endless training, and spend our nights and weekends planning and doing paperwork. This is what teaching should be! Keep up the good work, Mr. Greg! - Ms. Cindy in Fort Mill

    Great idea!
Love Greg’s enthusiasm and the fact that there is now a podcast specifically for us subs!! 4 episodes in and I do hope there will be more variety of grade levels though. I sub only elementary and am not connecting with this as much as I would as a middle/HS sub. But may still be coming in future episodes. Thanks Greg!
