Eric &Jim are purveyors of ‘Good History’ - smart, entertaining & both have a gift for just how to transmit complicated subjects, making it both fun AND informative! I have taken Jim’s Wheatfield tour which was spectacular! Listen, hire them & learn! Keep it up!

Prison Mike_74Superb Gettysburg PodcastI truly enjoy both Jim and Eric as they mix a fantastic amount of perspective and facts. The often source memoirs and AR’s really doing their research. I recently stumbled upon their podcast recently and can’t get enough.

Doctor DoogieThe Bestest Gettysburg Podcast EVER!!!A hearty and hale thank you goes out to Jim & Eric! Well done gentlemen. First, I wanted to profusely thank you so very much for your work on the podcast. As a retired US Army Reserve officer, history nerd and civil war aficionado you have my eternal gratitude for what you both have created. I have been binge listening to the entire podcast over the last six months after I was made aware of its existence by an equally nerdy and history loving friend. I’m currently up to episode 41. It was with fear and trepidation that I was reaching the end of the podcasts since what is one’s daily drive without a Dan Sickle’s report or a Buford reminisce!?! :P As a veterinarian, I fondly and wholeheartedly approve of your frequent Bo-Bo references. Since, one can truly discern what sort of man a person is by the company he keeps. ;) So, there it is. Thank you gents for making civil war history fun, insightful, fascinating, always relevant & poignant and even mildly humorous at times. Cheers. BTW As a self described super-fan, It’s marvelous to see episode 51 online! Cheers! Your hardworking and dedication is appreciated. :) I sincerely hope to see many more episodes in the future!

mattifattiHappy I Found This PodcastAs a history teacher who whose journey to the profession was sparked by a field trip in high school to Gettysburg, I have spend about 30 years visiting the area and absorbing as much information as I could. I got to a point where everything I was reading felt a bit on the dryer side. Fast forward to this years anniversary (2024) and I did a search for a podcast and stumbled on the This History of Gettysburg Podcast. I love the blend of presenting information on a palatable level combined with some humor and thoughts to ponder. Nobody hogs the mic and it seems as though they are always thinking of the listener as they present their show. I’m less then 2 months in and have listened to just over 30 episodes!! Great job fellas!!

Builder25Right content, Right approachThis is an excellent podcast. It takes a commen-sense approach to the battle and doesn’t play a lot of pious “what-if” or “he should have.” The battle was a tragic, but fascinating event. This podcast treats it as such, and the hosts, while knowledgeable and entertaining, don’t take themselves too seriously. I love listening and learning.
-
jgb5064Binge-WorthyI searched Battle of Gettysburg on Apple Podcasts and this was the top result. I couldn’t be more delighted for the detailed description of the battlefield in my hometown! The podcast has been remarkably riveting and I’ve binged 10 hours in the last 3 days. Thank you for encompassing so much of the battle in this podcast. I am truly grateful for this podcast.

Super fan DavidBattle of Gettysburg PodcastI am late finding this podcast but am glad I did. Jim and Eric are excellent engaging historians, presenting the material in an easy to listen to, easy to understand format Best of all, they get you thinking about the entire Gettysburg campaign and make you think about what you know and challenge you to look at the events in a different light I only have five more episodes and dread the day I am up to date. Please keep them coming

B Tuck IDB TuckerAwesome Podcast. Fun and informative!
-
Tyler PowersSuper entertaining way to learn the battle, Sickles, and everything GettysburgThis is my favorite podcast! James and Eric bring such passion and knowledge while explaining the fine details of the epic battle that took place in July, 1863. They make learning about history fun and entertaining. Keep up the great work!
-
uoregonalumAwesome PodcastMy wife accuses me of “getting into Gettysburg every year at this time.” She may be right, but this podcast is what scratches that itch. Jim and Eric are great narrators and I can’t recommend this podcast enough, especially for those interested in delving into the weeds. I want it noted publicly that Eric deemed me a Super Fan after introducing myself on a bus tour last February. I was wearing an Oregon Ducks sweater that he said was “oddly tame” since it wasn’t neon yellow.
-
hułîntOutstanding podcastI’ve listed to every episode and while the podcast is informative, interesting, and funny, there’s two items in particular that I’d like to emphasize. First, the subject matter expertise Jim and Eric display is extraordinary, and second, their verbal dexterity is astonishing. In an America where people can’t speak for longer than two seconds without inserting a gratuitous “like,” “you know,” or “uh,” these two display none of the verbal tics that so irritate all right-thinking English speakers. I cannot recommend this podcast highly enough. Dallas in Long Beach
-
JD from Ledyard CtHistory as it should be told .Eric and Jim are doing a great job explaining the battle of Gettysburg that’s easy to listen too and extremely informative. BillBlaster1Two Battlefield Guides Provide detailed AnalysisGreat podcast if you are interested in the Civil War battle of Gettysburg. They both review many details of the battle and the people involved. Some are over 2 hours. Highly recommended. Eric & Jim are great resources of info.
-
murfcatInformative and Entertaining!Have listened to 20+ episodes so far and loving it! At first, I cherry-picked the “interesting” topics but then I realized that they are all interesting. Am now listening to them chronologically and dreading the day I am all caught up. Nothing makes the long car trips to civil war battlefields more enjoyable than listening to Jim and Eric.
-
Gettysburg enthusiastGreat idea to have a podcast, and what a great podcast! So interesting, and learning so much!
-
From FarmingtonGreat GettysburgI have learned so much listening to this podcast! I love the interactions of the hosts and the interviews of experts. This should be the way all history podcasts are done. Thanks for doing this. David In Louisville
-
LoufromCvilleGreat Podcast! The back and forth between Jim and Eric is fun and entertaining. When they get to the details of the battle they really shine. They ferret out details the listener may not already know and get to the heart the necessary information the listener can go away with! Thanks for doing this
-
vaitnfuehI still learn new thingsEvery time I listen to this outstanding podcast and I’ve been reading about this battle for most of my 61 years. Great content, great delivery.
-
des10632Not Just GettysburgJust stumbled on this podcast. Very pleasantly surprised as I thought how much can they say about the battle, but the podcasts are so much more. While Gettysburg is the focus, the hosts dive into the personalities, tactics, decision making, present day perceptions, etc. of so much more. Entertaining and informative.
-
buddyrob6Dive In!This program is simply outstanding. On any topic yet broached, the show asks powerful questions, and rigorously pursues well-sourced answers, leaving the audience to responsibly inform their own conclusions. The Battle of Gettysburg Podcast also does a marvelous job providing historical context and balanced perspective to subjects long bathed in controversy, and for this refreshing and fun (gasp) approach, I am assuredly grateful. Keep up the terrific work, everyone! Rob S.
-

Clemkr22Brings history to life!I took a tour with Eric a while ago and heard him mention this podcast. Later that night I decided to look it up and give it a listen… and right away I was hooked! Having had my third great grandfather fight under Custer gave me a passion to learn more and Eric and Jim feed that passion with every episode! Also who would of known that I also would become obsessed with Sickles! I have bought many books suggested by them and can’t wait to go back for another tour of the grounds by either one of these guys! Keep up the great work!
-
KgjkfI have learned more about the civil war in 8 episodes than I did through school! My husband got me into this podcast, reluctantly on my part, because I’ve never been that interested in the civil war. He wanted me to check this out in preparation for our private tour of Gettysburg this fall… And I am so happy he did!! I am 8 episodes in and I love the level of research and passion both hosts demonstrate every episode. It has made this topic incredibly interesting for me! And now I am not only looking forward to our Gettysburg trip, but also checking out the Reliance Mine Saloon haha. Thank you for the great work!
-
earlandsonEntertainingThis is quickly becoming my favorite podcast. The boys do a great job mixing facts, opinions and side stories. Great stuff

coocoofanaynayHappy to Have Found this PodcastThis is a very enjoyable, informative podcast. The hosts are congenial and knowledgeable. They know their subject and they speak about it in a way that makes me feel that they are enthusiastic about it, genuinely enjoy talking about it, and the podcast is a fun way for them to share what they know about a hugely impactful event in our nation’s history. I look forward to visiting Gettysburg, and when I do I will definitely get a guided tour from a licensed Battlefield guide. Keep it up!

-
JhollJrDetailed, Nuanced, and EntertainingIn short one of the best history podcasts available. I appreciate the detail and the obvious research, preparation, and organization of each and every topic. Sickles updates are a bonus.
-
csxjonFantasticI love the detail but with a little humor. PS: need the phone number of your attorney Dan Sickles.

JohnD1863!The New Age of Historical InformationThis podcast is an incredible asset to the historical community. Digital content is the new age of historical information and a way to great way approach history. I have been reading about the battle of Gettysburg and digging through the Official Records for years. To be able to unwind and listen to this podcast in the car or on the lawn mower is incredible. As for the hosts, Eric and Jim are as good of guys on tour as they are on the podcast. Two of the best books on the battle have been written by Jim Hessler. Eric knows as much about the North Carolina regiments as anyone living. I’ve been on the battlefield with them and they are the real deal. If you want to dive into the battle of Gettysburg in an approachable and fun atmosphere, look no further. Oh, and if you’re going to complain about their on-air personalities, I would recommend sticking to books.
-
MikeF25FantasticThe use of primary sources to dispel myths or further points is great. Love listening to points in the battle from the soldiers in their own words
-
BlackNdecker88Fantastic and thoughtful podcast!Wonderfully insightful podcast where the hosts bring rigor and nuance to the Gettysburg Battle discussion to an audience with varying levels of familiarity with the topic. You will get sucked in, entranced with the story, and want to learn more!
-
Tom CineGreat Gettysburg resource!Great podcast! On my “Must Listen “ list.I look forward to every program. Learn so much you have to listen twice. Jim and Eric keep up the great work and hopefully see you on the Battlefield soon!!
-
AZ Mike PListening for monthsLove listening! Had the opportunity twice to visit the Battlefield in the ‘70s, going again ‘24 after visiting DC and Army Navy game. Will definitely hire a licensed battle field guide! Thank you both and your staff!!
-
Pittsburgh Civil War NerdThe best civil war podcastEric and Jim are very entertaining and knowledgeable civil war historians. I have been visiting Gettysburg for 30 years and I learned a lot about the battle from listening to the podcast. I cannot recommend this podcast enough. Keep up the good work gentlemen!!
-
USMC History HundEducational and entertaining! Both Jim and Eric are Licensed Battlefield Guides and the battlefield guide process is pretty rigorous, including a written and an oral exam, so you can be confident these two know their stuff. However, they don’t take themselves too seriously and details on the battle are delivered in a witty and hilarious fashion, making them very easy listen and learn from. They also have their specialties and don’t always agree 100%, so you get a nuanced take on events. They know when to be serious and when to inject humor to keep the topics from getting dry and laborious and the conversation rolling. No droning either! They vary their tones and engage well with each other, making for an interesting conversation. You honestly feel like you’re listening in on a conversation between friends, which is how they’ve designed it. Their guests are cool too, as they both have a lot of well known Gettysburg historian friends. The only critique is - which really isn’t a critique - if you hate Dan Sickles, this probably isn’t the podcast for you as they find clever ways to work him in (usually tongue-and-cheek) to nearly every episode! 😁 I’m currently relistening to everything from the beginning and finding new stuff I missed the first go round. Love it!
-
Spencer IrvineFun, fact-filled history podcast! It is a must-follow history podcast. The hosts keep a welcome, light mood when discussing serious topics about the battle of Gettysburg and other related topics or historical figures. I am amazed at their wealth of knowledge and it is a fun show to listen to. Huge thanks for keeping me sane during tough times and I always look forward to their outstanding episodes when they are available. Keep up the great work!
-
Shiloh DustonGettysburg PodcastI stumbled onto this podcast a few weeks ago and have been binge listening since then. The presenters have some great information on the Battle and they always keep it light with lots of great banter. Looking forward to picking up their books for further reading- especially on Dan Sickles!
-
Stony Hill JunkieInformative and Engaging! For almost four years now, historians and Licensed Battlefield Guides Jim Hessler and Eric Lindblade have teamed up to co-host what I feel is the best Gettysburg Podcast out there. Their episodes to date have all been engrossing deep dives covering a wide variety of battle/campaign-related topics. The style and delivery is straightforward and no-nonsense, yet at the same time entertaining and highly informative. I eagerly look forward to each new episode, and see a very long run ahead for the Battle of Gettysburg Podcast!
-
Swamp Hog #19Huzzah for The Battle of Gettysburg Podcast.Simply the best Gettysburg podcast in existence. Hosted by two time Coddington award winner and Gettysburg Licensed Guide (LBG) James Hessler, with assistance by LBG Eric Lindblade this podcast challenges some of the established myths of the battle, while providing some great research tips to those of us whose particular obsession lies in the entire Gettysburg campaign.
-
DeTrobriandExcellentI love this podcast. I will say however that when I heard Hessler was a part of it I was excited because I love his books. But I actually like Eric better, and please, please Jim Hessler stop cutting off Eric so much and let him speak! Too often Jim takes over the conversation. He loves to talk but hates to listen. Other than that my favorite podcast.
-
eaterfanReally really good for Civil War buffsKeep it up guys!
-
Bo-Bo SicklesHabit Forming!I’m psyched I stumbled upon this podcast! I hope another 5-star review will help others find it. Although I was generally familiar with the large movements of the battle and have wandered around the battlefield a few times, I’m new to studying of the battle. Their insightful coverage of Gettysburg has inspired me to dig deeper into the entire history of the campaign and the battle. I think this podcast will appeal to new students and seasoned pros. The wrestling references are an added bonus.
