Undeceptions with John Dickson

157

Every week on Undeceptions we’ll explore some aspect of life, faith, history, culture, or ethics that is either much misunderstood or mostly forgotten. With the help of people who know what they’re talking about, we’ll be trying to ‘undeceive ourselves’ and let the truth ‘out’.

    Consistently Challenging and Stimulating
Never hear a dull episode. I love objective explanations from / on all views of a subject. All the guests bring such a wealth of perspective on their area of expertise. Please keep up the good work of preparing the remnant.

    Fascinating and surprising
An enjoyable exploration of questions that are worth asking. Even when I wonder if I would be interested in the topic I am always surprised with profound truths that touch my heart and soul.

    Such a fabulous podcast!
This is one of my absolute favorite podcasts. (And I listen to a lot of podcasts!) I love that it challenges me intellectually and spiritually at the same time. The production quality is excellent, and it is so helpful when John’s explanation of something an interviewee says is overlayed with the conversation. And every episode seems to cover a topic that I didn’t realize I needed to learn about.

A worthy contribution to the Christian tradition
Well thought out and executed dialogue. All sides of the debates are well represented at least to the best of Dickson’s ability. The classicist approach to the deep questions posed by an active Christian community is more relevant than it has ever been and props to John for humbly facilitating all the great discussions on this show.

    Interesting, Insightful and Informative
I’ve been enjoying this podcast off and on for awhile now, and as of recent, have begun listening more frequently. I owe a review by this point. I am a graduate student studying theology, and this podcast has acted in some way to encourage my exploration of an abundance of theological, historical, and philosophical modes of scholarship and thought. John Dickson speaks with a variety of people from a variety of disciplines, and these discussions have been a source of immense help and invigoration for me in my studies. This podcast has pointed me in many directions (in a good way), and consequently, I feel that I have expanded my scholarly horizons and research interests, in part thanks to the quality and variety of these podcasts. Very much looking forward to future episodes!

    Thoughtful and engaging
Interesting topics and points of view. Love the guests he brings in who are always interesting and experts in their field. A great podcast that challenges you to think.

    Thoughtful and very engaging!
Love this show. Large array or topics each week and very thoughtful in his responses. Loads of history, but made simple!

    Entertaining and Educational
John and the crew produce an incredible show. High production value, very informative and enjoyable on so many levels. They have found a way to funnel some very complex and challenging topics into a show that is simple and enjoyable yet never feels like it has sacrificed the depth of the topic for simplicity. When I hear the Undeceptions Band start playing I know I’m in for a great show. Keep up the great work!

    Enriches My Week!
As I’ve searched more and more hungrily for meaning and understanding in the world we live in, my mind finds comfort in the episodes the Undeceptions crew continue to produce. Dickson is fair, open and interesting. But, he’s also convicted in purpose and this brand of Christian apologetics checks so many boxes form me. I’m grateful for nearly every episode.

    Excellent
John is not only very knowledgeable, but he appreciates opposing views with so much respect and honesty. It’s refreshing to hear an opinion, even on hard topics, without contempt for those you disagree with (see the one star review if you want an example of the what I mean)
  • Aaronsbrood
    Aussie mispronunciation...
I am just starting to get into apologetics, and deeper learning of Christianity. I am finding Mr Dickson’s mispronunciation of filet at the beginning of each episode kinda distracting.

    Thoughtful Podcast
John and his team do a marvelous job diving into challenging topics. Most are from a Christian worldview but some are simply digging through research and information. I have listened to most of them through the first four seasons, and each has given me something new to consider, and a few have made me rethink my opinions. Thanks for the great work.

As a believer I find myself sharing your podcast with others who are exploring A personal relationship with Christ Thanks John!

    Delightfully Enlightening!
I discovered Undeceptions while listening to ‘The Alisa Childers’ podcast. I’m binge listening and totally smitten with John and the entire production. The content is lively, engaging, and intelligent. Give it a listen!

Sublime resource for a young freshman pastor of a small country church! Love it!
I absolutely adore this podcast! I am the senior pastor of New Mt Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Clyattville, GA, just north of Florida. We are transitioning back to in-person worship services soon, and my YouTube and podcast binges have brought me to here. This show is clearly rooted in Christianity’s jd how it impacts and interacts with our world. I love the wide range of experts of their fields and the cream of academia’s crop. It’s well-paced and produced presentation sometimes make Me feel a bit like you’re waiting on my comment next. The Episodes on Paul and the inter-testimony period gave me load of well-vetted material for my sermons to come. You’re all a blessing to me and to the kingdom of God. I can’t wait to start “Bullies and Saints!” God bless you, and thank you for the great podcast!

    Should Be Required Listening
Awesome podcast. John Dickson is masterful not only in his understanding of historical Christianity and modern culture, but he’s a master guide in helping others grow, learn, and confront the challenges and implications of Jesus Christ today—yet he does so in a way that respects all persons, whether they are true believers or honest skeptics. He does his research (he doesn’t take easy shortcuts), and he is both charitable and kind while sharing his opinions/convictions.

    Stellar.
I just listened to episode 5 about the ‘Intertestamental Period’ and was quite impressed with the thoroughness of the research, the quality of the production, and the pedantry in making sure the facts are accurately conveyed. I’m impressed and quite appreciative.

    Great Podcast
I’ve really enjoyed the humble tone and edifying material of the podcast. It is a great starting point to think about and discuss a variety of topics. Definitely worth the listen!

    Thoughtful, humble, and spiritual
I was introduced to John Dickson through his book “Bullies and Saints.” I so appreciated his thoughtful & humorous tone that it made me want to check out his podcast. I have not been disappointed! I’m so thankful for this resource! It stands out in a world of bluster and shallow sound bites to give us a discussion that is thoughtful, humble, and spiritual. And, for what it’s worth, I have enjoyed other podcasts, but this was the first one that I felt quickly moved to want to donate to! Keep up the good work.

    Thought-Provoking and Well Done
I was introduced to John Dickson as a guest speaker to Ada Bible Church. John’s knowledge of the Bible and history is evident, and his guests on the podcast are excellent too in their subject(s) of expertise. This podcast has helped me in my own study of God’s Word, and it has also helped me listen to other’s thoughts and perspectives on several different, sometimes controversial, topics. I look forward to it every week!

    Fun and Insight Listen
Great content that will challenge you and you will be given the opportunity to learn something new. And the quality is so high. Each episode is wonderfully put together. A fun and insightful listen indeed. Keep up the good work!

    Grateful
I am so thankful I was introduced to John Dickson through the church I attend, Ada Bible. This season in my life has felt like pieces falling perfectly into place as a lighted path for me to God. John Dickson is one more piece that is helping me in my doubt and has given me faith and hope in the Christian movement. My faith has always been plagued by a million questions that have not fully allowed me to ever be an assured believer. But I am thankful for these questions and for John Dickson engaging with them.

    So far, so good!
Every show I’ve listened to thus far has been both enjoyable and educational. And as a Midwesterner from the United States, the accents add to the fun!

    Barnacle buster...
John poses and answers questions about Christian origin and culture that I (and many) have had in our search for faith in Christ... He busts the barnacles of confusion off the seawall of truth.... and does so with finesse. Grateful I discovered this podcast.

    John Dickson worth listening to
John has been coming to our church, Ada Bible, in the U.S. for a number of years. I gave him fascinating and challenging. Please listen as I believe these are great questions we should all wrestle with. Thank you for taking the time and effort to produce these!

    Simply Stellar!
Topics are highly relevant, guests are specialists in their discipline, and scope and scale of every episode is just right. Production is outstanding in every respect. I especially appreciated the occasional excursions John provides that offers greater accessibility to a broader audience! Give a listen!!

John Dickson’s podcast is top shelf
Everything about this series is pro. First of all, the production really brings the pop. This isn’t a couple folks talking into a mic... it’s creative and well thought out, with breakaways that avoid monotony (not that Dickson could ever be monotone) and intros that reel you in. I could say more about production (that theme!) but the meat is actually the content. I’ve glean much from each episode... it’s relevant, as many like to point out... and cutting edge. Dickson at his best. Just brilliant, mate! (Normally I’d say y’all, but hopefully you get why I changed it)

    Excellent
John has long been one of the most important and gracious voices in my life. I consider him a great gift to believers and unbelievers alike. John embodies the words of Blaise Pascal: "Men despise religion. They hate it and are afraid it may be true. The cure for this is first to show that religion is not contrary to reason, but worthy of reverence and respect. Next make it attractive, make good men wish it were true, and then show that it is."
