GracefulNeurosisspoiler-y review & controversial opinionok a lot of the reviews are asking “where’s season 2” due to the cliffhanger it leaves on, & i get it but honestly i’m not sure it needs it. tragic and very powerful story of a young woman, rebecca, living with her husband and baby, who’s best friend, danny, ran away to a cult the day they were supposed to graduate highschool together. danny comes back and stays for a night, not wanting to go home to her parents. they spend a few tense and awkward hours together, and danny’s situation is barely revealed. she’s still in the cult, and the most revelation you get is on episode 10, and the cult stuff is never explained. and it SHOULDNT BE. this story is about danny but it’s mostly from rebecca’s perspective, with implied overheard half conversations between danny and her cult leader and moments but. she doesn’t know about the cult. she’s seen the guys internet presence but the cult members are highly sheltered, highly offline, and highly controlled. she doesn’t know what’s been going on in her life or how to help her. danny speaks in the cults esoteric lingo as often as she and rebecca share true moments of laughter, which is not very much. it’s heartbreaking both as a story about high control groups, and as the loss of an extremely close childhood friendship that ended just on the cusp of adulthood; they have full lives apart from each other now and don’t know who the other person is as adults. episode 10’s cliffhanger is a highly upsetting place to leave it, but sometimes that’s where it leaves. you never hear from the other person again. or you only hear bits and pieces. i think it’s up for listener speculation. maybe rebecca helps danny escape and she leads a normal life or maybe she doesn’t ever feel normal again. maybe danny never gets out or has to start doing bad things to stay in and she never talks to rebecca again or maybe she’s able to make it within the cult to a more respectable position. maybe the cult gets exposed or danny gets kicked out and comes back again, not out but not in either, no home to go back to, needing money or a job or a place to stay. who knows? it could go any which way. i think that the “what happens next” impulse is big in fiction podcasts, especially when so many networks drop off on a cliffhanger and don’t come back for a second season. it’s super frustrating and i completely understand if you disagree with me here, but gaslight is one of those instances where i think a second season could actually harm the story it’s trying to tell. chloe’s performance is awesome and i’d also love to hear her do another audiodrama, but i think like so many peoples experiences with loved ones in cults, gaslight stops where it does for a reason. i love this show and it’s absolutely 5 stars for me.

Lisa cushmanMore more moreI love this podcast. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I just want more!

Jim @aol.comSeason 2?To steal from the other comment, “Don’t leave a guy hanging”. I listened to and enjoyed season one, probably during the pandemic. Then waited for season 2 or at least some conclusion. Still waiting. I did a little search once in awhile, but nothing. Then talk of a TV series, still nothing. Chloe Grace, I implore you, give us some closure. I’m 71, outside your demo for sure, but I need this! Well, that’s a bit strong, but really want it. 🥹

Cyberbird09Season 2? 🥺Imagine my dismay after finishing episode X and realizing that after 5 YEARS (!!!!) there’s still no season 2. I recently saw that the writer of this show has a book coming out in September called Gaslight. Hoping that her book has the conclusion.

OhreniishiiiWant to love it moreThe 2 minutes + of credits then ads makes these legit 8-10 minute episodes just slightly less great.
-
DustMePinkSeason 2?????Are we gonna get any more of this? You can’t just end it that way and not give us some more please bring out more.
-
Fun1894Way too ad heavyFive minutes of show, rest is ads. Ridiculous
-
liviloo21AmazingLoved so much! Please do a season two!
-
JTaaaIt just stoppedI was enjoying this podcast and even paid for a subscription, but then it just ended. No wrap up, no anything, they just stopped. The sort episodes and long credits were annoying, but acceptable until the bizarre stop.
-
AJintheDGreat plot. Horrible format.I loved the storyline and going from the past to the present. I hated that the episodes were 40% ads and 60% content. Very disappointed that it ends with a cliffhanger - especially when the episodes are so short. Like you tortured us for 10 episodes of 8 mins each - at least wrap it up. There are twitter stories longer than this. This whole series would normally be 1-2 episodes of content for a normal podcast. The plot was very intriguing. I’d run to listen to a reboot with more content and a fully hashed out storyline.

-
LaaaaaaadyShort episodesI’m 6 episodes in and already going crazy over the 10 min episodes
-
AllyCatBJJReally good except…Phenomenal editing, really well put together, gripping and intriguing… really loved the voice actors and everything but it feels more like the prequel for a movie. The ending, while ok, i was kinda shocked it was over and then disappointed because it doesn’t feel finished.
-
BaxterandfergusNeed another season!!!This is one of the best, most complex and compelling series I’ve heard and am sooooo disappointed that it doesn’t appear that another season will be released.
-
Roninty90Intrigued from Beginning to EndThat Ben guy is a piece of work 😐. Danny stressed me out cause you want her to snap out of it, but I guess you can’t help everyone.
-
K.RuCompelling story with no ending?I didn’t like the short episode format either. This was released in 2019 and 3 years later there’s no follow up? The show has potential but I guess that’s it?
-
Radiochild80Has potential but not a complete story.....First of all when I saw it consisted of 10 episodes at 10-15 min each (there are a couple that are 12 minutes, including the ads at the beginning) I had doubts that it would be able to be a complete story. I was right. One episode is a repeat of an earlier episode with a 5 minute phone call inserted that was not heard in the previous episode. But it was not a call containing earth shattering information, in fact the call seemed pretty pointless and it felt like the writers wanted it to be a bigger deal than it actually was. A lot of the story felt this way. Just kind of weird. Another example: Danny obviously chose to go to the bedroom bc she knew the monitor was there but again for no apparent reason as nothing came of it and no important information was shared. Again, It was just kind of weird. The characters are cool and the story has a lot of potential but this is unfinished and at best a rough draft. Needs a lot of work. My least favorite so far from QCODE. Sorry guys. This one missed its mark, in my opinion.

MelissaMarieGNot for sexual trauma victimsThis show should have a disclaimer that it may not be appropriate for victims of sexual abuse.
-
Quick Basic Editing ToolI gotta knowWhat happened after they picked Danny up?!
-
JaneBerlinHEnds no whereReally short. Each episode is only like 15 min at most. The story creeps along and then goes no where at all.
-
MKayKay007Season 2?!Need more!!

danyaxo25💜💜💜Love this
-
P. MoorGreat podcast, abrupt endingQCODE never fails to amaze me with how they end every single season of every single show with either a total cliffhanger or promises for more and then almost never follow up. Great show, intriguing premise with great characters and acting, but it's getting old.
-
ladiiebeeWhere’s the rest??I love listening to these QCode podcasts, but someone please tell me why oh why is there never a season 2 or more to literally any of the stories?!! The plots, characters, sounds, and music are all truly amazing, but always leave me wanting more. Can anyone tell me when new seasons will be coming out? Didn’t realize that this is from 2019! Seems like an update should’ve come out already. Extremely disappointing!

-
Huston500I NEED season 2!Please tell me this will continue?!
-
angelitAngel4shortIt was good.So I enjoyed the story thoroughly. The ending left me wishing for more information to the story after. I would give it a higher rating if I didn’t have so many questions left to ponder. It kept me thinking, I’ll give it that, but not something you’d expect either.
-
britcoatsThats all?So good! But SUCH a fast listen. I really wish there was a season two. Please, sir? May we have some more?
-
areebaloveslifeWe need more!Hi I loved this podcast and NEED to know what happens to Danny!!
-
TruCrmLvrIt’s a miss for meI listen to almost all of QCODE. This is a miss…it is trying to build up to a point it never makes. Black Out, Left Right Game, The Burning Photo very very good. This is a hard pass for me.
-
MaverickAbundanceUnsatisfied!This Podcast left me unsatisfied.
-
fauxdeuxWaste of time10 minute episodes that go nowhere (and it’s been three years since season 1, so I’m assuming there will never be a season 2). Two thumbs down.
-
KarissaMccaskillUnpopular opinion: Good Ending!I appreciated the ending unlike many reviews. The ending was written I believe to evoke emotions like frustration and confusion, like Danny’s family and friends felt. It was a real, honest ending to represent the lives of those effected by a loved one who leaves without all the answers. If you haven’t listened- without spoiling, be aware it will stop abruptly with a big open ending, but it is a good story and message if you can get past that. As much as I would love a season 2, I am satisfied that season 1 had a proper ending. Not every story requires multi-parts and I personally think it’s best as is.
-
mnnvcxzmnbvcxzWay too shortThis is such a good story but each episode is so short and the last 2 minutes is the credits so it’s even more less time to actually be intrigued. I ended the season frustrated rather than interested.
-
srj*Got good right awayI enjoyed this podcast. I’m hoping for a season 2
-
Stefany KThe ending? Is there more to come?Enjoyed the story line, but super disappointed in the ending… I wish I hadn’t even listened only to have it end, or not really end. I can’t seem to figure out if it’s over over or not.
-
BeckMIllzBreathingI actually like this podcast I am into the story. However, Why are the episodes so short, it is so irritating having to fast forward the commercials and then get 10 minutes of show. Also the BREATHING. Why is there so much breathing…drives me nuts.
-
nomobballScientologyJust okay. Actually pretty irritating.
-
vcarol123DisappointmentThe episodes too short, credits too long. And that ending? I can’t believe that she got $10,000 from her old friend. Makes absolutely no sense.
-
mom2ELM2Disappointing and the wrong kind of cringeyThis show lacks just about all of the necessary elements that into telling a good story. It just seemed like the writer chose a subject matter that would evoke a strong emotional response from listeners on its own, without having to bother with world or character building. The acting and sound quality were this production's only redeeming qualities. They were good enough to almost distract from the lack of originality and effort put into the writing. They are the reason it got 3 stars.
-
NewmommyandnotnewLow contentBetween 2-3 mins of ads at the start and musical credit ending of 2 mins or more, there are about 6-8 mins of story content on each episode. Story had potential but it’s annoying how little content there is.
-
JLDNFGBGGSame…. Ending suckedIt was alright
-
ndaven021People aren’t understanding…The podcast is called “Gaslight” which is defined as “To present a false narrative to another group or person which leads them to doubt their perceptions and become misled (generally for the gaslighters own benefit), disoriented or distressed.” If you listen to the end the last spoken words are: “They gave us ten (as in $10,000)”. Dani fooled us all and conned her old friend for money…
