GvdjibejudbheokInsensitive (How to be…)The episode on “Insensitive” by Jann Arden had me laughing out loud. I’ve listened to a ton of these now, usually with a goofy nostalgic smile, but the banter and the extra verse they wrote for the song…man. Well done. They hate the MAGA/Trump movement (I do too), and they also seem to really hate Christians and conservatives (which is something I am), and occasionally go out of their way to revel in said hatred. I found the episode on why Hanson deserves their unmitigated fury and condemnation honestly kind of baffling and weird (and I generally tried to follow the COVID rules too, but still). But the world is a better place for this podcast existing. Thanks to them for their hard work. I like the Weird Al podcast as well.

Paychodelicate girlYou lost me at Bowie I never got into…Eeek! How can you not have some knowledge in Bowie or Alice Cooper and have a show on music. Yikes.
-
modernshortiesThese guysHey, what can I say— I’m a fan! Chris is always amped and Matt has that informational background on the songs that helps paint a picture of the time and circumstances that created a (singular) hit song.

MelissaLovesaMysteryWhere have you been all of my life? How many times have you wondered what happened to a band that had one smash hit or those people that recorded one song that will stick with you your whole life? Chris and Mat answer all of these questions and more in this fantastically researched and beautifully presented podcast. You laugh. You cry. It's better than 'Cats.' 💜🦄💜

_.Faith._Has Potential But…The constant tangents on Punchline’s lack of success really makes the podcast difficult to listen to. Deviating from the subject matter to complain detracts from/stifles the fun and relaxed nature of the podcast. I do really think there’s some great discussion to be had. I’m a big fan of the Thomas Dolby and Jane Child episodes, and have binged the show many times. The hosts are extremely knowledgeable, intellectual and hilariously entertaining, but all of that is constantly overshadowed by Punchline-specific “whataboutism.” I wish I could give it more stars, but there have just been one too many episodes where the actual topic was abandoned in favor of ranting about why Chris’ band should be more successful, and it’s just extremely frustrating, especially for a podcast of this caliber. Frankly, it reeks of bitterness, envy, and misplaced animosity. I had so much hope for this podcast, but the constant whining about not being famous/successful enough feels akin to a little kid throwing a temper tantrum.

alphiedriveThis show is thunderLove revisiting songs, listening to the banter, and laughing along!

mkrunsurf56Can’t miss!Chris and Matt consistently put together a high quality can’t miss podcast each week. The production is well-done and the research is superb. Package that with genuine humorous chemistry between the hosts and guests and you’ve got a podcast that will not disappoint.

KamikazeXeroA Fun Look at Hit Songs of the PastI really enjoy listening to this podcast on my drive home from work! Matt and Chris really do their research on the one hit wonders of the past, and they seem like they have fun doing so. One Hit Thunder has introduced me to several new (old) bands and great songs I may have missed when they were more frequently played!
-
parparts8Love the format, love the content!Chris and Matt do an amazing job with this show. They have great guests, are very knowledgeable about all these songs, and I enjoy how many times, the discussion delves into other music as well. I'm addicted and look forward to the new episode each week!
-
FodderusAlways entertainingI apologize for it taking me so long to write a glowing review. This podcast is great for any punk teenager that grew up, stayed punk but can appreciate all kinds of music, including cheesy but well crafted Top 40 schlock. This pod keeps getting better.

OG'maThunder!!!This podcast is thunder!! Finding this was a nice addition to my weekly routine. Another great topic! I find myself singing these theme songs all day long. Thanks for keeping things fun! I love listening.
-
ItsBethCame for the Hanson episode, staying for the nostalgiaGreat episode on MmmBop by Hanson, the band once criminally underrated who sadly revealed themselves to be unworthy of being rated at all. Appreciated the nuanced discussion, both of the song and the recent controversy. Can’t wait to catch up on the back catalog because I’m seeing lots of 90’s favorites on the list!
-
CantpostbecausenicknameVery fun ideaI got turned onto this podcast because Chris the host is the producer for another podcast I dig.I love the idea of what it is and I love how they talk about it and it’s fans talking about what they like so everyone relates without a band background. It’s very fine it jumps around genres fairly so it’s not pigeonholed buy just one style of one hit wonder and I look forward to it during the week to listen to it is a good driving podcast on my daily commute
