PdunfeyDitch Ari!!Long time listener but have slowed down since you added Ari. He’s very annoying and adds nothing. He tries to be funny but he’s not. His role playing is condescending. Please ditch him and go back to your solo podcasts. Then it would be 5 stars!
-
Srichards2Excellent Podcast !This is an outstanding podcast! James is incredibly passionate about retirement topics and helping people with great analysis and in-depth focus on numerous topics. I think everyone should listen to this podcast !

rubriv6Love the show! You make finances in retirement easy to inderstand. Thank you!
-
nmack7777Great podcastYou guys are very clear at giving financial advice without overwhelming. Initially listened to the Early Retirement Podcast and I am now enjoying James style as well. Would love episodes with potential guests in the future. Enjoy the Candy Bar analogy from James once I heard it

Rob789113Insightful and Transparent with Great New DynamicsEnjoy the new joint episodes with Ari. Appreciate the transparency you all are bringing to the financial industry.

acemibWhy the co-hosting?I found James a few years ago by complete luck and was super thrilled with his layman explanations. Eventually this podcast suggested others to include his partner Ari. I tried it for many months but ultimately dropped Ari’s podcast because he is condescending, uninteresting, and goes off topic. Now he shows up here!?! Ugh. Sorry James, but your five star is at best a three star with him. Unfortunately I am unsubscribing…

Profa en Ann ArborJames is great!! Ari, not so muchI’ve loved James’ podcast for a long time. He is wicked smart, a very clear communicator, and loves helping people. I’m not thrilled with these new co-hosted episodes though. Ari might have good intentions, but honestly he belittles the clients he’s talking about and consistently talks down to current listeners. What’s worse is that he can’t stay on topic and tends to go off on tangents so much, and in such a clumsy way, that James often has to step in and clear things up. In short, James is amazing and I listen when it’s just him. But after listening to a bunch with Ari and finding them so frustrating, I’m going to skip those in the future.

Shaky legs 84Wholistic approach asking the essential questionsJames isn’t interested in easy answers based exclusively in monetary terms. Instead he aims to position the listener to live the life they want to live—both today and in the future. The most valuable perspective I’ve yet to find on money’s limited but essential role in planning the remainder of my days.
-
Doc BroncoExcellentThis is an excellent podcast. Highly recommended for anybody planning for, approaching, or in retirement, which means just about everybody.
-
Art GWorth the listenJames breaks down the various strategies around retirement in a way that is easy to understand. The audio podcast will work for most episodes but for topics with visual aids the YouTube version is recommended.

Ann4travelRetired at 59About 2 years ago, I came across James’ YouTube and podcast while searching for answers to the possibility of early exit from my stressful career. James’ contents are full of thoughtful insights and practical informations. He communicates with clarity and sincerity. I found answers I needed not only on the financial but also on the psychological aspects of getting ready for retirement after watching and listening to his countless episodes. After gaining confidence, I started working with a financial advisor and took steps to make retirement at 59 a reality. Thank you James for your excellent and thought provoking contents!
-
morriswjThought-provokingI learn something new in each episode. Whether you are planning on retiring soon or have already retired there are many great tips that James is ready to share with you.

bluespiritsEpisode 227, 235I recently discovered the show, it’s very informative. Jame’s knowledge on tax planning, and his ability to dissect complicated subjects to easy to understand pieces, and still be concise on his teaching is amazing! I also like his wisdom and sometimes being philosophical about life and it’s purpose, and how to live the best life one could! He seems to be very young, yet so wise! I have recommended the show to many people. Since I liked it so much, I went back to listen to his previous shows, I specifically like those shows where he answers listener questions, it’s so helpful, informative! A great podcast!!

SoCalCusterPlease return to old formatI learned much more in a short period of time with the old format. The new format is way to much extra talking and less facts and takeaways.

Canon(baller)7DPlain and Simple to UnderstandKnowledge is power. Thought I knew all I needed to consider about ROTH conversions, until I discovered this podcast. Excellent information to assist with making wise decisions.
-
Roryrock334Concise and clearCompared to other personal finance / retirement planning podcasts I listen to where hosts sometimes ramble or don’t give specific examples, James’ podcasts are so much more helpful. I appreciate the way James always models situations and presents a framework, walking through specific scenarios - this actually helps me learn and makes things clear.
-
windtrixUnderstanding Retirement ComplexitiesJames looks like a youngster (to me at 70), but he has a vast amount of information about financial planning specifically regarding retirement. I have always done all of my own financial work…taxes, investing, etc. and I have listened to every financial retirement podcast out there. James is so clear when he explains ideas, strategies, investing, taxes, etc. Even for someone who knows a lot about these subjects, these can be very complex. He has an amazing grasp of it all, but he is able to explain it all in detail and very clearly (like nobody else). Highly recommend whether you are a beginner (don’t worry, he goes over most subjects multiple times and you can listen to old podcasts) or an expert.
-
Joni KrWorthwhileThis has become my favorite financial/retirement podcast due to the astonishing amount of information Mr. Canole so generously provides. I personally am not looking for the entertainment factor, so I appreciate his ability to stay relevant and concise in each and every show.
-
ElephantherdcoHigh Quality Enjoy ListeningEvery Episode is full of Questions to get you thinking about your own situation. James does a masterful job of clearly outlining his thought process. One thing I admire most about James is that while he is smart enough technically to be the Expert in the Room, he fully recognizes that his role is Guide and not Expert. Personal Finance is more Personal than it is Finance. Only you can be the true Expert on your life. James and others who embrace human first financial planning recognize that their role is Guide.

ssfarleLove this Podcast!I listen to several different financial podcasts. This one is my favorite as it’s not “over produced.” It doesn’t spend any time on production, chit chat, lengthy introductions, etc…. You can get more from listening to 20 minutes of this podcast than listening to other podcasts for 45 minutes!

TimF 1965Retirement is 6 years awayThis podcast has help me understand my path to retirement. I realize now I am in much shape for retirement then I thought. I have a much better understanding of 401k withdrawals, Medicare, social security and tax strategies.

Redforest668753April 2 showThis is the first time I have listened to this podcast and I’m finding it extremely helpful. The hostess answering listeners questions with specific examples, and the way he walks us through. He is responses is making me think about many more different scenarios. I think I’ll be following this podcast for a while.

StarMan :)Episode 208 - 3 thumbs up!I've listened to this podcast twice now, and it has really made me think about the various factors to consider when trying to minimize taxes, reduce the impact of Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs), and prioritize capital gains harvesting and Roth conversions. Thanks for the insights! Lou Iuppa

Matt EvoraVery Awesome PodcastLove listening to Ready for retirement because James is very clear concise and informative. He covers so many topics of financial planning and all info is relevant. He’s specifically helpful to me as a financial advisor perusing the CFP designation, because I apply it everyday with my own clients. Still a lot to learn but I enjoy how James makes it easy to absorb. Maybe one day Root financial will be in my future.
-

Philip HeardHelpful Retirement PodcastSolid, quick to the point retirement podcast. I have found it very helpful.
-
1971guyA must for anyone interested in their financesFar and away . . the best. Each episode is about a focused topic; he uses real examples, and takes us step by step using the examples, making sure to emphasize the teaching points and how they can be applied to everyone. A gifted teacher; logical, and lets you “see” the thought processes. I’ve told many friends - I asked one recently how he likes it; he said “Oh, I’ve already listened to all of them.” Thank you!
-
Morfree2345Smart AdviceI grew up on the Bob Brinker radio show so it has been difficult to find advice up to that level since he retired his show. This show however seems to be one of the best podcasts I’ve tracked down on investing for those nearing or currently in retirement. Well done !! Very sound opinions and all reasonably thought out. Will follow this one for sure.
-
Lucas DurhamBest Financial Planning PodcastI am greatful James started ready for retirement after ceasing the creation of real personal finance! This is is the resource I point people to when they ask how they can learn financial planning for themselves! James and Ari are class acts who always provide wise council and are true professionals. Would give 6 stars if possible!
-
Ginger 60+Concise quality contentI catch every episode.
-
JwaltvalueFirst RateI am a frequent listener to a variety of podcasts, but this is the first instance I have ever taken the time to submit a review. James has perfected the craft, providing practical information in the appropriate depth and at the optimal length, with a polished style that reflects extensive and thoughtful preparation. Keep up the great work.

Nacho wizardOne of the best financial podcasts out thereAs a DIY investor, I like to know how the professionals think. James provides evidence based information in a thoughtful, logical and easy to understand manner. His calm and patient demeanor is an added plus! I enjoy listening to his podcasts and have learned a great deal about how to improve my investment strategy. His most recent podcast on the role of bonds and bond ladders in one’s portfolio is the best explanation I have ever heard. Instead of blindly choosing a 80/20 or 60/40 portfolio, it is best to be intentional and construct a portfolio based on individual draw down needs. Thanks for the great information!
-
Ram@bocaBest Retirement PoscastJames, thanks for the wealth of focused knowledge you have been dispensing on retirement. My wife and I came across your podcast 18 months ago and we haven’t stopped listening. You messages have been on target and is helping to guide us become better prepared for our upcoming retirement within the next couple years. Keep up the outstanding work and all the best for the new year to you and your family. Regards Ramy and Angie.

还是那个声音A question on timingHi James, Love your show! It’s packed with useful information explained in an easy to understand manner. My question is on timing, from a couple of angles: assuming I decide to retire in 2025. Question 1, which part of the year should I retire (beginning, middle or late)? What are some of the considerations? Question 2, let’s say I do a Roth conversation of $100K (paying taxes out of savings) , which part of the year should I do this and why? If I convert in the beginning of the year, when do I have to pay taxes, in the same quarter or by end of the year? Thanks for your time and keep up the great work! Oh, btw, I must admit after I start to watch you on YouTube also, my wife and I are amazed how young you look, especially for someone taking about retirement! Thanks again!
-
Smoore2020Fantastic PodcastI listen to many financial podcasts and Ready for Retirement is one of the best. The level of detail and clear articulation of the information are excellent. James takes a topic such as tax loss harvesting and, in a very manageable amount of time, covers many aspects and strategies for his listeners to consider. Thank you and keep up the great work!
-
GratefulinNYPractical and Informative!Just listened to another great episode. Your explanation of Tax Loss Harvesting helped me learn more than any other discussion on the topic. Going to speak with my fee only advisor about it.
-
Osm-DadExcellent information!Excellent information, very well explained. I have listened to a good selection of your episodes and found all to be extremely useful and of a very high level. Would love to see one on sequence of returns as this is for me the big question for someone like me that is starting retirement (65y in some months). Most of the softwares available works with averages (forecasted future returns) and this is a big risk in my opinion. Others with probability of success and Montecarlo simulations, but none give me the assurance I need that everything will be ok for my longevity and expenses assumptions. Others go deep into budgeting and expenses, but none provides a powerful and friendly tool to simulate the future (shot, mid and long term). Thanks a lot and keep up the excellent work. Osvaldo
-
