415ehMissed the markWow. Nice feminist under tones. Celebrating daughters that will likely become reviling wives per Titus 2

123 and 321Good informationThe first show was fascinating and contained some very useful information about the Quiverfull movement. I do hope you are planning to have more episodes because the interviewers ask excellent questions and allow the guest to speak openly about their experiences.

PNWwifeImmatureThe host is highly immature and the guests often are equally as immature. No depth and essentially making fun of church norms across the board while celebrating ridiculously immature responses to purposeful parenting or leadership within a religious organization. Kind of stupid. In addition, the host needs to please stop talking like she’s a sorority girl trying to sound grownup. Falling flat.

vbchickieInteresting PerspectivesI wasn’t raised in a Christian home but am a Jesus follower. I think I’ve known people along the way with stories like this who’s parents were well intentioned and afraid of the “world”. It’s sad that Christianity is often taught Jesus + a laundry list of rules… I’m grateful I was not exposed to these cultish practices because it sounds pretty awful. The only reason I’m not giving this a 5 is because this seems especially focused on the one Gothard movement (and there are so many to explore) and seems like most of these testimonies represent white experiences (and there are many other cultures who are preyed on by these teachings). It’s important to hear from many different voices bc I think race and culture play a big part in how people are pulled in. Granted, this Gothard movement seems to be very white nationalistic so perhaps that’s why, but I’d like to hear from others perspectives as these stories start to sound the same after a while.

DarkWingDuck2438Can We Please Stop?Great podcast and interviewers. Important and fascinating topics. I’m addressing the few bad reviews for this that I’ve seen: Can we please stop shaming women for using their natural voices? Culture shapes how people talk. You can’t just unlearn the life long cultural training of how you speak because you have a podcast. Plus, lots of these women (including the hosts) were (obviously) raised in/joined groups that put a lot of pressure on traditional gender roles and taught females to speak in certain ways. Stop shaming people for who they are. It is rare that I see a podcast voiced by me. where they are shamed for how they talk.

JfuimgdujvdHost’s ooooooh’s and uuuhhh huhhhhhh’sListen. This podcast’s guests are so inspiring. The guests have gone through some truly harrowing situations. The hosts make this really hard to listen to. Their questions are generally good- but while these trauma victims are telling their stories- the hosts constantly mirror the guests with “mmmmmmm mmmhmmmm mmmmm” or “awwwww huhhhhh” or “wooooooooowww” it is so belittling and demeaning to the guests. It sounds like a 14 year old feigning sympathy is listening. Maybe just turn the host’s mic off while the guests speak? They are so wildly distracting and belittling. They have good questions, but otherwise they ruin the guests stories.

Acklay7Overall good and needed, hosts could work on communicationGreat podcast covering fundamentalist (mostly Christian) sects and their resulting harm. This topic needs to be talked about so much more, and I applaud the hosts and interviewees for bravely tackling it! I agree with other reviewers that the hosts could benefit from working on better communication. It becomes somewhat tiring to hear constant exclamations like “oooooooh,” patronizing replies, and lack of active listening skills. Overall though, the topics covered from interviews are worth listening to!

CiCi DreadfulI loved the Jenni episode! What sweet friendly hostesses! Smart and fun, just a nice podcast to listen to while I’m at work!

Cookie WenchesGood content, bad deliveryI love hearing about these cults and ways that people (women mostly), have escaped. I have to wonder when it became standard to speak in a nasal, little girl voice. So many female podcasters have adopted the Kardashian-esque, baby, whiny presentation style. When I look back at classic journalism and presenters, I think of the credibility of expertise heard in Diane Sawyer’s voice. When will these female broadcasters put on their grown up voices, quit using Kardashian “like, like” speak, and just speak. Normally.

Not u but me heheAnnoyedThe host of this podcast needs to learn how to respond other than mmmmhmm, mmmm, yeah, ooohh ahaa. It was very distracting and like she wasnt interested or paying attention to what the guest is talking about. I would suggest for her to take a communications class or understand when and how often to use filler noise.

katthelion666Knowing you not aloneI love this podcast. As a survivor of purity culture this podcast helped me feel less alone in my experience. It took me years of being out of purity culture to be able to label and understand my experience. I appreciate this podcast for educating the general public about this issue and for showing me a hundreds of others that we are not alone!

mydearmandaEmpowering and SupportiveI really enjoy this podcast, the guests are super empowering and the hosts are as equally supportive. I didn’t grow up in a fundamentalist church, but I like the insight this podcast gives. It helps me understand the motives and thought process of people I don’t share the same values with. Every story I hear just reminds me of that movie Saved! and how the main character had to re-evaluate her relationship with God. The hosts are cute and bubbly, but are sensitive to any traumas discussed. I would definitely recommend to anyone interested in learning about the fundamentalist mindset or cults.

JNC910I tried to love itI really tried to like this podcast. I listened to several episodes. The hosts are clearly very young, which isn’t bad in itself. However, I felt like I was listening to high school girls reacting with no substance to real issues.

marilee g.Healing.This podcast is so healing and cathartic for anyone brought up in a the modern evangelical church. Thank you to the hosts and especially the guests for sharing their stories. It means the world.

ashleydaw5Love.I grew up in a very Orthodox household with very strict views and rules. I always questioned my decision to stray away and this whole podcast has really helped me get past that. A lot of the stories told are similar to mine and it’s amazing to hear how getting away changes lives for the better. Thank you for doing this.

JavaliciousJeanLove this! Both former fundies and humans.I love this podcast. I’ve been listening through it early in the morning with my dog and am almost out! Make more please!! I appreciate that the podcast treats their guests as both former fundies and human beings. They get the goods on the insanity that occurred, but also talk about things on a human level and seem to really care about the interviewees. As a person coming from r/fundieSnark, it seems to be a much more compassionate view of these women who escaped something terrible. Also, love how the podcasters love to learn! They’re open to learning new things, even in the moment. 10/10.

ChetycSuper Fascinating!I just discovered this podcast and love how it is empowering women to share their stories. I’m passionate about sharing stories so I appreciate the voice of this podcast. The hosts are fun and quirky and add some appropriate humor to lighten the mood which is hard to do with difficult stories like the ones these ladies focus on. Ive only listened to a few episodes so far, but particularly enjoy the episode on Jehovah’s witnesses and I feel like I learned so much about the ins and outs of that group! Super informative and as someone who’s come out of a cult it’s nice to hear other stories of women who’ve gone through something similar. <3

JMobs1Love this podcast! This is a great podcast! The sisters ask great questions, the guests all have extremely interesting stories, and overall it’s just a great dive into the true impact of fundamentalist sects. I’ve binged all the episodes in just three days and can’t wait for more!

aves0716Fascinating and Detailed Stories! This is my favorite new podcast this year. The sisters dive into the details of different fundamentalist beliefs and even better, women’s personal experiences in the church and their journeys out. Super compassionate and rich look into women’s lives under extreme beliefs. Could not recommend more!

Gramma dawnKeeps your interestI love this podcast and look forward to new episodes. It is not a gossip podcast at all. The guests tell their stories in an intriguing way.

carianakCan’t wait for more!!If you’re like me and have always been interested in the cult like churches behind the Dugger family and the Plath family this is the perfect podcast. I have always wanted to know what goes on behind the image they portray on tv and social media and this gives you all that and tons of things I wasn’t expecting. For someone who was not raised that way there are lots of thing I’m learning as I listen and I really appreciate the hosts and the guests for taking the time to explain. This is a platform for women who have been pushed into the background and silenced. I love it!

WhitneyErin22LizCan we have Liz back..like forever? Lol I absolutely love her. Back for more episodes, back as a cohost...I’m here for it.
-
HgyjnLove the format! So many other fundie podcasts are nearly gossip columns but this actually digs into the realities of fundamentalism and evangelicalism. I can already see so many parallels with my own upbringing and it’s enjoyable and helpful to unpack it all by hearing other’s stories. The hosts have great interview skills and I like that they’re learning along the way as well. Can’t wait for more episodes!
-
Jack ••••Informative and Interesting topic!I didn’t know much about The Duggar's and their religion. Looking forward to more episodes. Love the sister hosts!!!!

xXxKT03xXxCan’t wait for more! This was so interesting. I grew up watching the Duggar family and remember being fascinated with their lives. Thanks for digger deeper and exposing the darker side to this “cult” religion.

StitchstressCan’t wait for more!Very interesting topic and fascinating insight into fundamentalist Christians. The host does an excellent job interviewing the guest and the conversations really flow well. I can’t wait for more episodes!
-
bjgallagherKeep going...I’d like to hear more. This is definitely an important topic and I like to hear honest stories of people coming out of fundamentalism. With that said we need an introduction on the host and her background. I seemed to have missed that...
-
Hannah1596Interesting!Love the topic and interview. A lot more organized than most podcasts. I wouldn’t mind a little more casual chatting/discussion between the host and guest. Still a good time.
