MN meePerfect for this ABCMany of the topics covered are interesting, timely and practical. I appreciate not only the language learning aspect, but the cultural and historical aspects as well. It’s not only deepened my appreciation and understanding of my own family but increased my interest in learning more about things I knew about but didn’t fully appreciate, or understand (like the lottery receipts!). I’ve also been teaching and immersing my children but reached my limit years ago and this has become a valuable resource.

sneep peepGreat for heritage speakers! This is a perfect podcast for me - a Taiwanese person who grew up in the US with a basic but not complex grasp of Taiwanese Mandarin - to deepen my vocabulary and brush up on my listening skills. Abby talks about a wide range of interesting topics in a really engaging way. Thank you for sharing such a great learning tool with us!

Lars007Great resource for learning colloquial Taiwanese ChineseMy wife is Taiwanese and I have lots of family and friends there, and I find Talk Taiwanse Mandarin with Abby an excellent resource for learning mandarin as it is spoken in Taiwan. I am self-taught, intermediate level (about mid-HSK5) and the various episodes tend to introduce me to a fair amount of new words, helping me to expand my vocabulary in a way that feels very natural. The language is colloquial & relaxed and sometimes quite fast, much like it is in real life. There are lots of episodes on different topics, so easy to find topics that interest me. Thanks for your great work, Abby!

Zoe F. 静姝Perfect practice for intermediate/advanced Mandarin Chinese learners!I’ve been learning Mandarin Chinese for a few years now, and I struggle a lot with listening as a skill. I try to use podcasts to strengthen this skill, but most I have found are either too slow/boring or too fast/challenging. Abby’s conversational style and varied vocabulary gives a perfect in between! She is also very engaging and personable, and seems to care alot about her listeners’ experience. Keep it up Abby!

Mariska888best TW mandarin resource everI’ve been searching high and low for TW mandarin comprehensible input resources, and Abby’s podcast is clearly one of the, if not, the best. Very interesting topics, and great transcripts. It’s clear that Abby pours her heart and soul into her work for all of us to enjoy!

jchen650Best mandarin learning showPhenomenal show. I love your calm and natural pace of speech. It helps my American born ears learn Mandarin better than learning from my mother. Your subject material is also relatable. I really appreciate your great work and dedication to this podcast. The transcripts are excellent.

woaiaomenFantastic podcast for HSK 4 and 5 learnersQuite a terrific podcast. Abby speaks slowly but not to slow and clearly. Her topics such as on insomnia are practical. This one in particular i listened to a dozen times to pick up key phrases and words she uses. Very good method to increase your speaking skills.

aus10wallNew Listener and love it!I recently moved back to the US from Taiwan where I had been working for the past two years. I was looking for a podcast that spoke at my level and allowed me to keep studying Mandarin. I’ve only listened to one of Abby‘s podcasts but I already know I’ll be listening to many more as I continue to practice my listening skills while in America!

jessicaczenggreat for intermediate learners and those interested in Taiwanese cultureAbby is a pleasure to listen to for intermediate learners of Mandarin! I’ve been following her podcast for about half a year, and I really love the content, which ranges from conversational day-to-day topics and interviews to cultural nuances. It’s engaging without feeling forced. It’s great how her website contains (mostly full) transcripts of each podcast, in both traditional and simplified. I love learning about Taiwan (one of my favorite countries I’ve visited!), and Abby feels like a friend at this point. She’s clearly very passionate about what she does, and I’m looking forward to whatever she does in the future. Thank you Abby!

John Williams Jr.Great ResourceAbby, thank you for choosing to create this podcast and lessons. I almost gave up on searching for Chinese podcasts as most have disappeared. Very glad to have one from Taiwan, as most have been from China.

NiccckkkkvvvSuper helpful for learning mandarinThis podcast is the perfect resource for anyone interested in learning taiwanese-style mandarin. Abby is a great producer, host, and interviewer! I’m a big fan.

PhilsGoodMan00Amazing Podcast for Mandarin LearnersThere are so many resources out there for Mandarin learning, but very few of them are focused specifically on Taiwanese Mandarin. There are even fewer resources that are targeted at heritage speakers or intermediate level speakers. This is a perfect podcast to boost your vocabulary, and an excellent stepping stone in language learning.

Aroneus GeeInteresting, varied content at just the right level . . .Abby is a charming, friendly host who provides great content for intermediate, upper intermediate, and advanced students of Mandarin Chinese like myself. While I can generally follow along and understand without study, there are still new words for me, many of which I can just pick up by the context. I particularly enjoy her show because, as one who has traveled to Taiwan multiple times and loves the country, it transports me back to my “second home” for a little while. I prefer Taiwanese pronunciation of Mandarin and like to hear Abbie’s thoughts on a number of Taiwan-centric subjects. Some of her shows are interviews and others are just her sharing her thoughts and experiences. Abby provides a transcript for each show, which is very helpful. A humble, human, and positive program!

EulJaAwesome podcast!Trying to find a good Taiwanese specific mandarin podcast is tough to find and I’m so excited to find Abby’s! I’m Taiwanese American and wanted to bolster my listening skills. This is perfect for intermediate level mandarin learners. Keep up the good work!

mkim10Great podcast for listeningIf you are at about the intermediate level, it’s tough to find good content that bridges the gap to native-level material. This podcast really helps because Abby provides transcripts and uses everyday language. I’ve learned a lot with this podcast and highly recommend it for intermediate and above students.
-
maria woodygood listening practicefinally getting to intermediate level, and needed to find spoken content to further learn more vocabulary naturally though hearing how local taiwanese speak mandarin. insights such as how locals pronounce 溯, important for figuring out audio segmentation. pre-intermediate, i acquired decent vocabulary but when i heard it spoken at native speed i could never comprehend. finally made the leap to intermediate when i could segment what was being said, partially though more vocabulary, as well as knowing how certain taiwanese infused adaptations pronounced. this podcast is the only one I’ve listened to that exposed me to these insights, big thanks!
