Excellent podcast for those that seek to understand
I found this podcast early after Oct 7, 2023 and have learned something from each episode and guest. The Passover episode with Rachel Goldberg took my admiration for this podcast to a whole new level. She is one of the greatest and most refreshing teachers of our time. There will be Talmudic commentary on her wisdom, compassion, and genuine love of Judaism.

One of my regular podcasts; I never miss an episode. I can always count on Dan’s nuanced questions and framing of the issue and I appreciate the willingness to look at elements often ignored by the legacy media.

    Always Excellent
I discovered call me back the week of October 7 as I was searching for a more serious and in-depth analysis of Israeli domestic and international politics. I found it with call me back and have listened to every minute of every episode since. Dan’s obvious love for the Jewish state never causes him to turn away from asking difficult questions or from bringing in radically different Zionist perspectives. Absolutely essential for anyone that wants to understand the modern state of Israeli and Middle Eastern politics.

    Gallant interview
Great interview. I really appreciated Dan asking hard questions about the wisdom of Israel trading for hostages.

THE ESSENTIAL PODCAST for these times- analysis and stories and people you can’t afford to miss
My original review read: “If your blood is boiling, your mind perplexed, and you either need some relief or some sense of navigation through it all, COME HERE and listen , and then listen again! Great!”

    A blessed podcast
Dan Senor and the Call Me Back podcast are a blessing. Dan has such a calm and considerate approach that provides a source of stability to many of us during these times of challenge and struggle. If you want to be informed of the reality of Antisemitism and Israel today, how we got here and who is making a difference, listen early and often.

Call me back is always illuminating and on point. I listen to it religiously. Highly recommend if you want to learn Israeli politics, society and about Israel’s place in the mid east.

    Excellent interviews
The host (Dan Senor) has this essential quality of allowing his guests to fully express themselves. As he is a knowledgeable person who listens carefully, he asks the right questions. His choice of guests is always edifying! Thank you!

    Excellent
This is a top notch podcast. Commentary used to be my favorite podcast but Matt Continetti’s constant pontificating and interrupting is unbearable so I don’t even listen to it anymore. Call Me Back and Honestly are now my favorite podcasts.

    Part 1 is sooooooo boring
Save the oral documentary project for another outlet. We expect more interesting content. If you’re too scared to keep him moving at a faster pace, then don’t have him on.

⭐️The Podcast to Rule All Podcasts - An American Gentile’s Take
“Call Me Back” is a truly excellent podcast and in my personal Hall of Fame for the following reasons- 1. Host Characteristics: While visiting an ice cream shop recently, I was asked to “choose a base” before selecting from a wide variety of possible “mix-ins.” Dan is one of those rare hosts who chose curiosity and the sincere pursuit of truth as the “base” flavor of his podcast. He’s that highly sought-after blend of articulate worldly sophistication, intelligence, fluency, and proportionate humility rarely knit together in one individual. Dan doesn’t use the podcast for self-aggrandizement - he gets right to the subject matter and spares his audience from the self-indulgent 15 minutes of random, personal anecdote sharing so common in the podcast sphere. If he does share anecdotes or personal experiences, its to directly enhance the subject matter and benefit the listener. Dan Senor has a soothing, professorial and earnest tone, the kind that accurately conveys the gravity of the situation without spiking your blood pressure, a tone with inherent inertia towards a solution while simultaneously unpacking the contours of the problem. 2. Guest Quality: The host and producers of this show do a stellar job choosing reputable, articulate guests from all sectors of Jewish and Israeli society - they are themselves, “primary sources” of information and as high caliber as the host. Like Dan, they are also skilled at focusing on the meat of an issue, rarely get distracted by meaninglessly tangents, and offer the right proportion of facts and expert analysis. I appreciate that they clearly distinguish between their own predictions/ assumptions, and empirical facts. The guests seem to share Dan’s commitment to epistemological humility. I carry around a notebook that I fill will the unanswered questions and random ideas that pop into my head. I have pages and pages of existential questions on the Israel-Palestine conflict written down that mainstream media and most influencers do not address, or don’t explore to my satisfaction. I find I get the most satisfactory answers to many of these questions from this podcast. Dan seems to ask questions of his guests that I’ve been desperate to ask an expert for years. 3. Content is ‘Scaffolded’ to elevate not intimidate or exclude: Ideally, every podcast would construct metaphorical scaffolding in the gap between the listeners baseline understanding, and the high-quality information and concepts being presented. Meaning, the content should make the listener stretch the limits of their understanding and introduce new paradigms and alternative ways of thinking while providing the ladder rungs for the lay person to climb there. Dan excels at making his content both accessible and thought-provoking. He doesn’t shroud it in pretentious, pedantic prose that’s intended to exclude. 4. No politically-tinged smugness or passive-aggressive virtue signaling. Dan sticks to the substance and spares us the snide side-swipes, pejoratives and potted characterization cliches often used to dig at “Trump supporters,” or “the American Left,” etc. This is one of the only predominately Jewish/Israeli centric podcasts that actually considers the concerns, reservations, or feelings the American electorate might harbor about Trump’s proposed actions in the Middle East. Respectfully, most Israeli and Jewish platforms simply talk ‘at’ American voters or ‘about’ them without actually engaging them in constructive dialogue or considering their objections and/or ideas regarding our current predicaments. 5. Accessible for non-Jews: I’m not Jewish or Israeli, but I’ve studied the Israel-Palestine conflict for years, done marketing consulting for Israeli start-ups, and feel compelled to try and understand the many contours of this war. I haven’t found another podcast or platform that provides me with a look inside the conflict as comprehensive and astute as “Call Me Back.” Although I’ve made a concerted effort to understand the region and its history in more depth than the average American non-Jew, I’ve never felt this show contains too many Jewish “pre-requisites” for me to become fully immersed and enriched by the subject matter presented in this amazing podcast. ✨Keep up the excellent work

It’s our will that’s our strength
It was a pleasure, as always, listening to Nadav Eyal and Amit Segal on your “Trump’s Vision for Gaza” broadcast. I generally follow their reporting in Hebrew. I take issue with only one of your characterizations of President Trump’s remarks played in the broadcast. The particular quote played during the podcast didn’t praise the IDF (although he might have said it at another point during his press conference). He praised the Israeli people who “fought back bravely,” who “stood strong” against an enemy that has raped kidnapped, slaughtered, and tortured. I choose to interpret his remarks as praising the Israeli people. And we are certainly worthy of praise but not just because of the men and women of the IDF who have committed endless time and chunks of their lives to this war. It is because of the thousands, perhaps tens of thousands of everyday Israelis who have helped one another. Those who have, and continue, to volunteer in ways big and small. Some pick fruit and vegetables. Others adopted a miluim family to help with their children and meal preparation. Some came to hotels to assist with the displaced from the north and the south. Others donated part of their retail sales to the myriad of causes that support the people of Israel. Some, like me, chose to help the elderly at the local nursing home. Not a particularly sexy issue, but a group that somehow gets lost in the war effort. It’s the people who have persevered. It’s the people who fought back and said, by their actions, you will not break us because we stand together. Even if we stand at different protests - the ones in favor of a hostage deal, the ones against it, the ones in favor of elections and the ones who support the government - we carry the same flag. And that flag stands for our collective dedication to fight for our future. We might disagree about how we get there (and disagree we do quite loudly) but we all agree about our right to that future. My dad recently mentioned that Israel’s enemies underestimated our military might. Perhaps. But I think they underestimated our will. As a people, we might suffer from collective trauma. But we will heal from collective trauma by rising with collective will. The will of 4 women who were taken from their army base, held hostage in deplorable conditions, yet requested to return to service. The will of random people who sign up in minutes to help a lone soldier from my son’s unit who was wounded in Gaza until his mother arrived from El Salvador. The will of young men and women who are resettling the south and the north and building again. The will of an 80 year old man who was held hostage for 480 days but his first thought is to rebuild the kibbutz he founded. In Kohelet, it is written, King Solomon wrote, “a cord of three strands is not easily broken.” That three stranded cord is our will.

    A must listen
This podcast is so important. As a diaspora Jew, it is my go-to for up-to-date happenings since October 7. Great regular/rotating guests depending on the specific topic. I listen to it the day it is released.

So, you heard Trump say that only the people living there who “want to leave” would leave? Absolutely stunning.

My favorite podcast, and one of the most important ones out there for anyone interested in Israel and the Middle East. Interesting. Insightful. Informative. I listen as soon as it’s released.
  • DJ20004
    Way too credulous
The last episode aged poorly, as Trump‘s own White House had already walked back his comments about the US taking over Gaza by the time it aired, making it sort of hilarious to listen to a dissection of the proposal as if it was some brilliant move in a game of three dimensional chess when, in fact, it was just an off the cuff comment more akin to suggesting that we treat Covid with bleach than proposing the Marshall Plan. Journalism should have at least some iota of skepticism.

Great facilitator, knowledge about the topics
Dan senor has worked in the field that he covers for many years so he knows what he’s talking about and the conversations flow smoothly as a result of that. A great show. Pretty much the only one I listen to.

    Very informative podcast
The best podcast on Israel and Israeli issues. Helps make sense of the news and is incredibly well done. Thank you very much for this, Dan Senor.
  • DareBoBear
    very good but very flawed
This is an absolutely indispensable podcast, post-October 7. However it is also deeply flawed. There are not many more important English-language podcasts for staying in tune with the events in Israel since October 7 than this one. But I will get right to the flaw, and that is the fact that Senor, someone who purports to be on the right when it comes to Israel, does not have any courage in his own supposed convictions. Senor in fact is afflicted with the same unfortunate malady that plagues President Trump, in that he wants to be liked by the elites. (Who are inevitably on the left.) So while we get treated with an endless supply of the Nadav Eyals and Haviv Retig Gurs and Micah Goodmans of the world (the first two of which I tend to get something out of at least), Senor wouldn't be caught dead having on someone like Ruthie Blum or Caroline Glick. WHY NOT DAN? One especially repulsive figure that we get repeatedly treated to is Yossi Klein Halevi, whose Bibi Derangement Syndrome colors every sentence he will ever utter. Yet he is platformed with the assumption of legitimacy ahead of someone like Glick, who we could be actually learning from. On January 1st Dan had on a particularly oily character named Ronen Bergman, who writes for the New York Times and Yedioth Ahronoth. Bergman had been used (probably happily) by the anti-Bibi forces in the leadup to the remarkable pager attacks in Lebanon, and he dutifully published information about an impending attack, causing Israel to quickly step up the operation, let it be wasted. This is borderline treason, yet Dan asks Bergman nothing about it. As he asks nothing about the claims by Bergman that in the leadup to October 7, Netanyahu was given important intel about the Gazan terrorists' switching out their sim cards. This claim is vigorously denied by Netanyahu. Again, it is the anti-Bibi mindset of so many of these journalists that Dan has on, and they always tend to get a free pass. What good is being on a side (in this case the right) if you are always afraid to stake your claim? By all means, listen to this pod and absorb the info. But know what you are getting. And if your Israel current events time is limited, I would highly recommend going with Caroline Glick instead.

    Shifting focus
Dan provided a unique insight into Israeli politics and the Israeli psyche following 10/7. The pod’s guests are first rate, and Dan is a great interviewer. The guests represent a range of Israeli opinion from right to left. The show has taken an unfortunate turn in previous weeks to an American centered perspective. Substantively this shift drifts away from the strength of the show; Dan’s bias toward the Trump administration represents a downturn in the quality of interviews as guests are not challenged on their talking points. Overall a 5 star, top-notch podcast. Through his podcast, Dan has successfully built a community for Jews outside Israel, and connected them to Israelis through his breadth of knowledge and fantastic rotation of guests. Thanks Dan!

    Please don’t go MAGA
I enjoy this podcast. Non Jewish person who supports reasonableness in all its forms. Having said that, I’m kinda alarmed at the pass this podcast has been giving to Trump and his lackeys. Trump is a malignant tumor on democracy and we should never stop acknowledging that, even if we think he’s right on Israel.

    Top notch
My sense is that the reporting on Dan’s show is that I get a lot more info, and in a more distilled manner, than I get when reading the news as it breaks.

    We who stand with Israel
I have been listening to this podcast since a friend first recommended it after October 7, 2023. I am horrified by the reaction of seemingly normal, moral Americans who find the brutality committed by Hamas to be “justified.” Please know that there are many here in America who are quietly going about their day-to-day lives, but who pray for Israel, who pray for the hostages, and who even pray for the innocent Gazans caught in the middle. We see your struggle, and we stand with you and your fight. We haven’t all lost our dang minds and sided with the evil terrorists. Thank you for the honest reporting of what is really going on - warts and all - with the IDF, and the government, and even what Israelies are feeling through this terrible ordeal. I am only a stay at home mom from Kentucky, but I stand with you and pray for you.

    Great podcast
Consistently excellent analysis and content. I love that Senor always starts by giving the time in New York and in Israel.
  • Knows too much
    Invaluable
When corporate media in the West covers Israel, you might (if you’re lucky) get something based on fact. But you more likely get something in between opinion masquerading as fact and outright lies. Senor’s podcast is an antidote to that unfortunate reality, going to the source and reporting something that’s sorely lacking in our media landscape and our culture at large: the truth.

    Must listen content!
This podcast is indispensable to those interested in events in Israel. I’ve listened for years and absolutely love it. Dan is great and the guests are fantastic. (I also like the new “cover art”. … I bet Dan’s gonna be getting some calls back from the Ladies!)
  • sdkitergirl
    Nice!
Attractive new thumbnail. Can find the podcast easier now!
  • JCSSF
    New cover art
The old cover art was much better — it was simple and stood out on my feed because of the colors. One of the things I love about this pod is that it doesn’t focus on Dan and he lets the guests speak. This cover is cheesy, host-focused, and feels like I’m about to be sold something by a financial planner or real estate agent. Also, he’s smiling and yet the podcast often covers heavy topics. Yes, the pod has a sense of humor but the pose and smile don’t align with the content/vibe. Also, one critique for a pod I generally love: Why are there no Palestinian guests (Ahmed Alkhatib?) on the pod? Why no Israel/Arabs? Why almost no women? Why so few in the moderate or center-left camp like Shaiel Ben-Ephraim even for a debate? We need more diverse perspectives to fully understand the conflict and potential paths toward peace.

Amazing insight- a bit of echo chamber
The insight we get from this podcast is second to none. At the same time while Nadav and Haviv bring amazing insight and updates, this podcast has become a bit of left leaning echo chamber. Some of the discussion about what people in Israel say, is not universally accurate. Sure if you go to Tel Aviv you will hear what they report, however if you go to Jerusalem or anywhere else, the people are much more optimistic. Also, please stop the bibi fever, it’s nauseating, and does not reflect the accurate predictions in Israel. I believe we need reporters from the right as well , so we can get a more balanced understanding. I’m not interested in the right leaning echo chamber either. But balance would be great. Thank you for all you do.
