    Articulate
I’ve come to really appreciate the Breaking Down Patriarchy podcast—especially Amy as the host. She’s so articulate, thoughtful, and respectful in the way she leads each conversation. The podcast is incredibly well done and has been deeply educational for me. It’s opened my eyes in ways I didn’t expect and has truly expanded how I see the world.

    A Must Listen!
This podcast is insightful, informative, and accessible. It is invaluable for anyone seeking to better understand the structure of our society—how it got that way, the impact it has on *all* of us, and how we can make changes for the better.

    I LOVE this podcast.
I first discovered Amy and Breaking Down Patriarchy on YouTube, when an episode was delightfully deposited into my algorithm. I will be forever grateful. I recently began boycotting Google, YouTube’s parent company, and so I searched for BDP to see if I could listen to the content elsewhere. I found their website, and began listening to the podcast there from the beginning. I’m now on episode 39 of the second season, and I have appreciated every single episode so far. I am super tempted to skip ahead and see what is being discussed currently, especially with Trump back in office, but I’ve decided to be patient and listen all the way through. I don’t want to miss any of these insightful gems. Thank you so much, Amy and BDP Crew!

    Inspiring
The host, Amy, has an incredible gift. She is able to compassionately hold space for all the terrible things that have happened in the past and at the same time hold space for change and hope. I’m not sure if I’ll ever be as compassionate as Amy, but she sure is inspiring in every episode. And I also appreciate her willingness to take a stand. I believe that inner to find justice we must stand up against injustice and Amy is doing that.

    TRUTH
Overtime the Bible has placed a rage in my heart for the injustice us women have faced. I’m angry and when I express my feelings , even to other women they treat me as if I’m delusional. But in this podcast I feel seen & understood. Thank you Amy for helping me see my anger is valid and what I thought was happening in the Bible to us women is definitely true!!!

    Excellent topics and research
I have learned so much listening to this show. She does an excellent job researching and presenting the mature and an understandable and interesting way. I hope somehow we can improve our society to make life better for our children around the world.

You gave me a place to start learning
There was a time when my morning walks and listening to these podcast episode episodes were very literally a lifeline. I was undergoing a faith crisis, and learning so much about my place in the world as it had been given to me and told to me versus what I now wanted to believe was possible for my second half of life. Breaking Down Patriarchy gave me the look behind the curtain that exposed all of the invisible machinery for why I had the particular hang ups I did about my body, why I always doubted myself when I would speak in mixed group- it laid an invaluable foundation for me to continue to build my own new life’s work upon and I’m so incredibly grateful

    Compassionate and enlightening
Thank you so much for your podcast, Allie! I enjoy the heart and effort you and your guests put into each episode. I find the topic alternatively, enraging and wonderful. It’s enraging because of all the things I didn’t know before and wished I did. But now I am wiser. I have you to thank for that. Thank you so much!

    Thank you.
I really enjoy your show. You are always prepared, enthusiastic and you ask intelligent questions. I am 65 and still want to learn and change. Thank you for opening my eyes with new ideas and information.

    Every woman should listen
Changed my life. This podcast was one of a few things that helped me leave systems that were oppressive to me as a women and helped me articulate what was wrong and harmful the things I was seeing and feeling growing up in a highly patriarchal society. Set me down my feminist awakening. Listen! Listen! Listen!

50 years of Mormon feminism and me
I love this podcast for so many reasons. Every episode strikes a different chord in my own experience and for all of my soul sisters. The episode about Exponent II and the history of Mormon feminism is a good example of why we need this podcast. As a chronicle of courageous women who do courageous things, never expecting notoriety because of how they may be marginalized at the time, this podcast is a guide and a beacon for all women who keep moving us forward in the universe. I have received so much and have given so little. Thank you for calling me to action!

    Strong work
As a guy striving to be stoic and alpha, this has been an important wake up call to champion women in their hopes and dreams. And take a closer look at the structures around me. Break the chains.

    I have learned a lot
Thank you. I have valued this podcast. It has helped me understand structural patriarchy and made me “Woke.”

    This is THE Podcast
Breaking Down Patriarchy is one of the most important works I have ever come across in my entire life. A treasure. I have spent the last couple of months listening to this podcast in most of my spare time—literally just playing games so I can sit and focus on the pod—as well as while cooking, or driving. I cannot get enough, and can’t believe I finally got through every episode up til now. Since hitting double digits, I didn’t have the words for it, but I was very angry and uncomfortable with the patriarchy. I also wondered what women were doing throughout history, as I very rarely heard anything about women, let alone that thoughts on equality have been held dear to women forever, and isn’t just a recent desire. I was even taught the opposite. I have learned SO much through Breaking Down Patriarchy, and have bought several of the books featured, which I’m excited to get into. Throughout so many episodes, I feel like there’s probably less than 5 that didn’t really, really capture my interest as strongly; and most have given thoughts to mull over for days, or weeks. Then, there are still others that act as beacons or balms for me. As this podcast has been my life lately, it’s piqued my children’s interest a little, as well, and I plan to have them listen through when they are older. I am so, so, so grateful to Amy for this podcast. I recommend it to everyone. It’s one of the best things I’ve ever encountered, and has changed my life, and provided me with critical knowledge, and a wonderful feeling of solidarity with other women, as well as women who came before.

    I love this podcast
This podcast makes me feel all the feelings as I deconstruct the high demand religion of my birth. Amy is the brilliant bridge that can help to heal our society. I want all of my children to take her class through this podcast to understand how the systems we were all born into need a critical eye and need to be changed or burned to the ground and start over again. Patriarchy hurts everyone.
  • Find new things each day
    Rare find
It is rare to find a balanced set of information about such a charged topic as patriarchy, gender norms and feminism. Those conversations are almost always doomed to dissolve into emotional disagreement or accusations. I admit, I am binging Amy’s podcast because I am behind and then I have to pause to ‘digest’ as things can get heavy. But I always leave with a more open mind and never in discord, what a beautiful thing to say about learning in this space!!! Thank you Amy!!

    Troy Williams Episode
I love this podcast! I listen to every episode each week. Amy is so knowledgeable and prepared, and the topics have really opened my eyes and made me aware to the issues of patriarchy. This week’s episode with Troy Williams was so great! He has done some amazing amazing things in Utah! So impressed with him.

    Favorite Podcast
I cannot express how helpful and educational and eye opening this podcast has been. I was raised in a what I call religious semi cult (doesn’t quite meet all the criteria for a full on cult), and this has been such a wonderful resource for me as I’ve deconstructed and re-educate myself. Thank you so much, Amy!! Also, Amy, if you and your team read all of these, first of all, BLESS, second, check out Justin Baldoni’s podcast Man Enough with Jamie Heath and Liz Plank, and Tori Dunlop’s podcast Financial Feminist. I think you’ll love them and if you were to ever reach out to any of them y’all would have SO much to discuss!❤️❤️❤️ And they would be amazing guests to have on BDP!

Awesome Podcast for Men and Women
I’m super excited for this podcast! I just listened to the Guy’s Guide to Feminism (season 4) and it was awesome! We need all good men to stop being silent. I sent this to my husband.

This podcast changed my life! Thank you Amy!
It is hard to navigate our patriarchal society as a woman and as a feminist. This podcast and Amy’s perspective on feminism and the human family have enriched my life so much! I have learned an immense amount. I remember when I listened to the creation of patriarchy podcast for the first time in 2021, I was floored. This is hands down my favorite podcast, I recommend it to everyone I know!

Listening deeply as I color mandalas
This goes a long way to supplying key information I might have gotten in a Women’s Studies course, had I taken even one. Thank you. I listen as I color mandalas, night after night, meditating on what I am learning, listening deeply.

    My favorite podcast.
I have been slowly listening to each and every episode for over a year now. It is incredible. The vast array of poignant topics are addressed in incredibly thoughtful ways with careful and thorough analysis. I look forward to each discussion. My mom and husband both listen as well. Thank you, Amy McPhie Allebest! Keep up the fantastic work. My one complaint is that I never want the episodes to end!
  • KJ9823
    Love love love!
This podcast absolutely changed my life, and continues to change it. I’ve been given a new vocabulary to explain phenomena previously unnamed but not unnoticed regarding patriarchy and its role in my life. If you’re looking for a new podcast- this is it.

    Thank you so very much
I have listened to a few episodes from the previous season and this intro you give us at the beginning of 2024 has cemented into my listening routine to go back listen to every single episode and learn what you're sharing. At Christmas 2023, my now pregnant 31 yo old daughter in law said “why don't we talk these things?” Meaning birth and what to plan for…until you told us about Gerder’s book on feminist consciousness and the passage about how men and women build or have to reinvent…i didn't have the words even though my heart knew why. And it’s because of that. Thank you for this; so very much. A 62 year old woman trying to learn her own damned history.
  • belovedsedgwick
    One of my favorite podcasts!
I have learned so much about “her”story from this podcast! Like Amy, I am a woman who was raised in Mormonism and I resonate with every episode. Thank you Amy for this beautiful and life changing offering.

Amy McPhie Allebest is my close friend…
…though she does not know it. I have listened to the whole series from start to finish. At the risk of sounding corny, this podcast has changed my life. It has become both the education and community I did not know I needed.

    My favourite podcast!
This is a such an informative and thought provoking podcast. The host Amy absolutely does her research at a high academic level and then has conversations with amazing guests that help distill huge and complex ideas and histories into easily digestible pieces. I recommend this podcast to everyone!
  • Alysia R
Amy is doing the work, with zero 'tude. I Love listening!
After Listening to Gabriella Blairs interview, which was eye-opening enough as a concept for an entire dedicated podcast on its own, I started from the very beginning, and have listened to every episode. I came from a very fundamentalist, southern Christian tradition, which meant there was zero education on any type of thought or philosophy outside our specific viewpoint, barring research done to shore up arguments encountered in evangelism. I left the religion of my upbringing and found I had a head full of "knowledge" with nowhere to go. What I love about listening to this podcast is I've realized learning about other traditions and other peoples around the world is so interesting. Even if I don't necessarily believe it. I find learning about people and their paths to God, so interesting. It's such a human thing, and also reinforces my belief that the way I was raised is absolutely NOT the only way to God, if there is a God. And I'm open to whatever there may be. At the end of the day, we are all people upholding traditions we find valuable, and it doesn't hurt to scrutinize those traditions to make sure they are still relevant, honest, true and worthy. Thanks Amy, and ALL the wonderful guests🙏

    Collective Journey
This podcast is expansive and genuine. Amy is well educated, humble and open hearted. She makes the uncomfortable accessible and creates a space for us all to wrestle alongside her with the collective pains of humanity. I am grateful for the journey she has taken us all on over the past few years.
  • thrifty joy
foundational discussions for understanding our world
this podcast has introduced me to so many texts, concepts, and fascinating people who help illuminate and break down just how & why we got to such an imbalance between male/female.
  • Jannalee E
    My favorite!
I never miss an episode! Amy is the best of hosts, with curiosity, compassion, and natural warmth. She knows the material through her own study; plus she has so much interest in her guests, listening to them and respecting their stories. Amy also does a good job not blaming men but critiquing systems and learning from those who know. If you want to know more about patriarchy and it’s impact on all minority populations, this is the place to start.
