Hold Me Back: Son and Father Change the Conversation

1,151
Parenting #196

Gen X and Gen Z live together, but we occupy different worlds. As the generational gap widens and conventional wisdom on parenting and education fails, is it even possible to understand one another? In this unique son-and-father podcast, Aidan and Ash ElDifrawi hash out a new contract between generations, forcing them to violate comfort zones on today’s most charged topics: social media and screen time, bullying and loneliness, inequality and privilege, sex and drugs, education and etiquette, even politics, religion, and sports. All to uncover a path toward greater harmony and a hopeful future for the next generation

Such a rich conversation between parent and child and so many of the episodes make me laugh outloud. Couldn’t love this podcast more!

    Fresh, relevant and funny
The boomer education episode slaps (did I use that right?) and made me laugh out loud many times. Also I loved the Emi Nietfeld interview and immediately read and loved her book. Your father-son dynamic is really admirable. Aidan is wise beyond his years. Keep it coming!

    Hola
Hi, I’m a 12-year-old and my mom was listening to this podcast and I was very interested about it and honestly I really like this podcast you guys seriously seem to really understand how we think although when you’re talking about the Internet and stuff like that kids definitely do need to have restrictions but sometimes if we want to agree with you about certain things we need to have our own independence about screens if adults want us to listen to you about there being evil stuff out there you have to let us experience it on our own. I’m not allowed to be on online games and my mom says that it’s to protect me and she says why and I get why but if she wants me to agree with her she hast to let me experience on my own anyway, thanks for reading this ✌🏻

    Found and Followed
A friend shared this with me. Started listening and glad I did. Several of the episodes resonate with me as a parent of older children. Insightful to hear how other families are handling the same issues we are seeing. Would recommend!

    TransGenerationally Transformational
Aidan and Ash are as humble as they are intelligent… as generous at listening as they are adept at speaking… as curious about a topic as they are expert in the field. The candid and respectful dynamic between father and son should inspire multi-generational listening. I find myself as a parent often sharing with my kids podcasts by people my age with very little success. Hold Me Back, on the other hand, makes for a compelling and engaging listening experience for parents and children alike. Thank you so much for inspiring important conversations through your informed content and passionate delivery. Such authenticity!

This is an interesting and unique podcast, I really like the dynamic between Ash & Aidan as they debate different topics with their generational divide. I enjoy how direct and honest they are while still being open minded to each others opinion. Love this duo.

A Fresh Take on Hard Convos
From a young age, my parents struggled having open and honest talks with me. Most of them ended in fights and I was left feeling unheard. Ash and Aidan have redefined what it means to have conversations with your parent/child and have opened the doors to a connection between the ages. They hit the nail on the head with being able to have differing POVs while also having a productive conversation. We need more of that!! I wish my parents had access to this podcast when I was younger.

    Fantastic podcast about father/son relationships
The podcast has provided incredible insight into many difficult topics which fathers and teenage sons encounter and explore together. Ash and Aidan are incredibly expressive and well-spoken and not afraid to share their emotions and thoughts with each other and the audience. As a father to a teenage son, I do not miss an episode and it is a rare and special treat (for me) when we listen together. I hope that you continue to do these together for many years to come.

    Good new concept
Great start for a good concept of a father and son discussion about life and the generational divide. And are we sure his son is only 15? He sounds smarter and more thoughtful then most adults. Keep it coming guys.

    Highly recommend
I appreciate this podcast so much. I’m raising a son and he is soon to be a teenager so I listen very closely to what Aiden has to say. Father and son are respectful of one another and I love the give and take of their conversations. At times it’s a bit heavy on the research but these two have one great podcast.

    Honest and brave
Aiden and Ash model how to have difficult conversations respectfully and honestly between parents and teens, dads and sons in particular. Kudos to them both for being vulnerable publicly in order to further the dialogue and discussions for families everywhere!

    Fantastic info!
As the parent of 3, two of those teenage sons, I love listening to this podcast. Each one has given me insight into my sons’ perspective on the topic at hand. I love Aidan’s sharpness and he’s so articulate and I also love Ash’s point of view with a therapist background, successful businessman and dedicated father. 100% helpful!
