    Not about cutting online time
It’s just become another political podcast. Nothing about staying offline anymore

Love the Careless People Book Epidode
First time listener with “The Book Mark Zuckerberg doesn’t want you to read” episode — and I loved it!! You got a new subscriber with this one. Can’t wait to read more in “Careless People”. A quick glance and it looks like this isn’t primarily a book review show, but I hope you will delve into more books and deep dive articles / documentaries we may have missed.

    Another Great CM Pod But…
I appreciate the different vibe that I get from this podcast compared to other Crooked Media pods, but it’s still in brand. And people have commented in reviews about Max’s “hmm” and “right” and “yeah” interjections as Jon is speaking, and I’ve never noticed it. It always just sounds like Max is just engaged in the conversation, so don’t not listen to this bc of that being slammed in other reviews. Last thing - I’m real tired of the Crooked Media’s subscription only giving ad-free access to a select few of their shows. I’m ready to listen to this pod and Strict Scrutiny without ads, but that isn’t even an option. That is my largest critique of the Crooked Media in general.

    Becoming my favorite pod?
Every each I lean a little more into considering Offline my favorite pod. And I think it’s because of Max Fisher. Having read his book as soon as it came out, I now trust his work and opinions as well.- he has guided my parenting a 19yo son in a social media dominated world.

    Always interesting
Wow such tough reviews on here! I love listening to this show. I listen to many Crooked pods and find Offline a nice break sometimes from politics. Jon and Max have a great dynamic and I enjoy keeping up with tech news. Thanks y’all! PS: The conversation about the new Uber w/ guns had me dying. Thanks for the laughs!

Love the show but unlistenable bc of max’s cross talk/shadow talking!
I want to love this show and listen to it! But max CONSTANTLY speaking “mmhm” “yep” “right” under literally everything that Jon says is driving me nuts.

    Too Active Listening
I really look forward to this podcast and understand the style of conversation Max has bc I am working on improving this habit, too. This is not a private conversation- so when John is speaking and Max is peppering John’s statements with soft & not so soft “yeahs” and “rights” it really distracts the listener. Sometimes it sounds like he’s rushing John so Max can have another opportunity to speak again.

    The worst kind of paternalism
Show features extensive navel-gazing from the Democratic Party that manages nonetheless to land none of the blame on itself. They cluck their tongues and tsk tsk tsk and ask "what is to be done about the phone-addicted youth who support Luigi Mangione?"
  • SJFrib
Love the show but Max’s shadow voice
Max’s shadow voice when Jon speaks is really distracting! Constantly. Please stop.

    Uh-huh
Love this podcast—the insight is always spot on, and I have a ton of appreciation for these guys. That said, I’d love for Max to cut back on the constant “uh-huh”s when Jon is speaking. It comes across as either not really listening or just waiting for his turn to talk, which can be distracting. Maybe it’s a nervous tic, but either way, embracing a little silence would go a long way. Huge respect for Max, but this habit needs to go.

Could you put in a link to the time when the guest actually starts please?
I’m often very interested in listening to your guests that you focus on in the show notes. Often however, that part of the show doesn’t start until well past the halfway mark. Could you list the time the discussion starts or put in the link to it please? Otherwise I frankly don’t take the time to listen to your show.

Love the show, needs to cut out interview into separate segments or podcast even
This podcast is a great break from the general politics while still exploring media and other topics that affects our daily lives. The interviews are great but they should really be their own episodes or series because you guys have gotten great people and I think these interviews get lost because everyone’s hang ups with the lead in portion which is a more casual discussion (and sometimes less polished political discourse). It’s difficult to convince people to tune into a one and a half hour episode of two separate topics especially if it’s pulling a Harvey dent where it takes itself seriously only half the time😅 I’m obviously here for both but I understand not everyone is

    Woof. These guys.
The gaslighting is getting out of hand with these guys. They run constant ads for tech companies and superfluous applications, then scold people for being too reliant on devices and applications for information sources. It’s exhausting having these guys be the “faces” of progressivism.
  • pnagar
    You are not independent media
Don’t call yourself independent media. Your commentary is so mainstream, so banal. TikTok was banned because of Israel lobby due to pro Palestine position being very popular in TikTok and not because of national security. If you call yourself independent have the guts to speak the truth.

    Condescending, out of touch
These Dems are just showing their true colors more and more. Condescending, know it all, outdated takes. Keep missing the point guys, that’ll win elections in the future!

    Full Lack of Empathy
While I do not condone violence or the murder in broad daylight perpetrated by Luigi Mangione I was really shocked and honestly disgusted to hear the take on the latest episode. The matter of fact declaration that our justice system often fails and people need to deal with it SCREAMS of privilege. MILLIONS of people are suffering or have died as a result of this broken system. Maybe spend a little time talking about how we could consider these healthcare CEOs murderers in their own right? Very disappointed. As a self proclaimed liberal you have made me very sad and honestly ashamed. Shame on you.

You can’t win elections with your head in the sand
As a self-described “elite” Jon knows all. And us listeners should shut up and let him moan about norms and how out of touch we all are. He refuses to engage with underlying issues that drove the country to vote in a more than likely authoritarian regime, that our institutions failed to dismantle. He refuses to understand how his friends bungled the election by not understanding why people care about underlying issues. He and so many hand wringers rather laugh and admonish the energetic response to events because why there might be a heightened level of catharsis following recent events. The morality is not the question, this moment of voices, across the political spectrum, crying out against a broken system that cannot simply be solved with bandaid wonky half solutions. This is an opportunity that any real political expert should see as a slam-dunk in organizing the public against what’s to come. “Oh but Americans like their health insurance”, yeah we like being insured because so many of us gone without insurance and felt the dread of the unknown lurking around the corner, one that has had financially ruinous, and fatal effects. Jon has not had that experience, and refuses to consider that he may be out of touch and too far in the pocket for corporate interests.

    Out of touch
Perhaps class consciousness goes both ways. I’ve been a subscriber of this and other crooked podcasts for a long time, so I was disheartened to hear the condescending scolding in this latest episode. You two have obviously not the rage of helplessness at this broken system. When a giant corporation that you’ve been paying money to for years decides your life is less important than the shareholders’ glee. I consider myself progressive, and assumed my beliefs were in line with you all. Finally I think I understand what it’s like to be talked down to by “the elites,” which you two clearly are. Regrettably I’m canceling my subscription to this and all other crooked media offerings. Please consider doing some soul searching- you won’t reach the audience you’re looking for with this crass lack of empathy and scolding. What do you all really stand for??

    Luigi/Healthcare
Big tone deaf takes here. I’ve also lived under a national system. We pay the most for the worst healthcare outcomes of our peer countries and our healthcare companies make 20 billion in profit. I get that you’re salty about the ACA. I wish people were less dumb too. But that’s on you to communicate better. And instead, what, you condescend about what happened a decade ago? You think maybe the voter base is different now?

    Quit being condescending
I listen to a lot of Crooked Media shows. In some ways, despite doing a ton of work, Jon and his bros cannot move past talking about people with condescension. They are still the guys who sat around a table in 2015 laughing in disbelief at the absurdity of Donald Trump considering a run for president. Jon and Max did it before the election about young voters who get lots of info on TikTok, and again about the people dissecting Kamala Harris’ loss. Omg they were SO condescending about Chappell Roan. They’re very smart about a lot of things, and they get a lot of things right. On “Offline” in particular, however, Max and Jon don’t push each other enough in their analyses, whereas I think on PSA, there’s slightly more disagreement and less tendency to look down on people. Jon has done so many projects talking to voters that it’s surprising he can’t get past this internalized smugness. I also think “Offline” has become a bit too much about online things, and I fear it will remain so. Maybe it should truly move more offline and only run every two or four weeks.

Standing for Transgender Rights Was A Missed Opportunity
I’m so tired of listening to you political talking heads who have no experience working with transgender people or being a transgender person explaining that Democrat support of trans rights was a losing issue. First, Republicans CREATED this “trans moral panic” specifically for a wedge issue after Trump lost in 2020. And Democrats ALLOWED this by our silence!! And now YOU have completely fallen into their hateful and vicious echo chamber! Second, the Democrats and Harris campaign missed a huge opportunity to push back at this by not giving a platform to this issue! There are courageous, articulate, joyful trans kids standing up for their rights in state legislatures. Those kids should have been given a national platform at Harris rallies, at the DNC, in ads. I promise you they will move hearts and minds of “middle” Americans. So now, instead of having helped these kids thrive, they are being scapegoated by Democrats like Seth Moulton, “political analysts”, and several people who have come on your podcasts. Including your 11/17 Offline episode. Make it stop! Or at least stop adding to it!!

    Stop blaming fox
Most conservative voters don’t watch Fox. Stop the elitist propaganda, this is why you lost. People want common sense leadership, crime control, stop the war on gas cars, no one can afford hybrid or electric , trans issues and drag shows for kids are divisive, and an open border is killing cities. Democrats don’t care about abortion rights they use it as a campaign tool. They had decades to codify it into law and we all know they never will. There is a long list that people are concerned about and Harris was never chosen by the people.

    Where we go from here
Engaging and insightful conversation. I really enjoy this podcast, especially now that Max is discussion partner for Jon. An idea for future online political success: Focus on parasocial relationships!! Find and support people who have parasocial magnetism. Also, it’s time to integrate more women into your daily programming. As in, women with microphones in front of the cameras. Hysteria isn’t enough.

    You guys, the elephant…
I love this program, but if I have to hear one more man of a certain demo list all the reasons that Kamala lost WITHOUT mentioning gender, I’m going to roll my eyes and write a review. Because nothing changes, it’s just better shapewear. After all, who wants to go to the gym? Certainly not this country.

On cancelling my subscription to wapo
I understand why you are rooting for the columnists and the need to “keep an open mind” for the greater good…BUT Jeff Bezos totally recognized the point that it looks like he folded for Trump by making his decision not to support a candidate this close to the election, because it does. He steers the ship and yes the coverage to this point has been “fair”, but this decision sends a real signal. Times they be changing… Either as you suggest the financials with all the cancelled subscriptions mean reporter cuts and a different profile of the paper, or Bezos decides he’s going to interpret “fair” coverage with no reader response (cancellations) and a new shift in the future includes more protections for his businesses. (Aka No one noticed the first time.) Bottom line I don’t have an Amazon subscription to cancel, so I invested in a subscription to the Atlantic instead.

Jon’s Insatiable Urge to Never Stop Talking Gets Manic
Max is a great co-host and in him, Jon has found someone happy to indulge his insatiable urge to talk all the words, and as fast as possible. Witness as this leeway enables this insatiable urge to go into overdrive, as the words just start galloping out faster and faster until Jon is barley in control of the car anymore. It’s driving him. A stunning psychological spectacle slowly unravels before your ears each week.

Calling Out MAGA Lies to Save American democracy
A timely and essential podcast, offering a critical perspective on the dangerous misinformation that has become prevalent in today’s political landscape. Favreau, with his insightful interviews and sharp commentary, takes aim at the lies perpetuated by Trump and the current state of the Republican Party, which has strayed far from its core principles. In an era where disinformation can deeply divide the country, podcasts like Offline are crucial for fostering informed conversations, holding leaders accountable, and highlighting the importance of truth in our democracy.
