Operation: Tradebom

Everybody remembers the morning of September 11, 2001, when two passenger jets flew into the World Trade Center in downtown Manhattan. But the idea of toppling the towers was not new. Thirty years ago, a group of men set off a bomb in the garage beneath the North Tower, hoping it would tumble into the South Tower. At the time, this was the largest improvised explosive device ever ignited on American soil. It killed six people and injured thousands, leaving behind a 100-foot crater five stories deep. Investigators from New York City’s Joint Terrorism Task Force—a ragtag team of FBI paper-pushers and NYPD detectives—found themselves conducting a new type of international investigation, called Operation: Tradebom. It became their job to find the bombers and bring them to justice before something even worse happened.

Operation: Tradebom is an Apple Original podcast, produced by Truth Media in partnership with Brillstein Entertainment Partners. Listen and follow on Apple Podcasts.

Great, informative series about the WTC bombing
I don’t remember much from the bombing as I was only 6 at the time, but this series laid out everything beautifully. Incredibly informative and no fluff.

    Good Pre-Cursor History to 9/11
A well researched and then produced series about the original Trade Tower Attacks before 9/11. A fascinating and addicting story to follow with interviews across the world and agencies responsible for the response. I think this series similarly to the Line should have an Apple TV+ component series to flush out greater details and help complement the important history of this event and its after effects.

    Trash retread!
This podcast was from years ago! Regurgitated perhaps because of the New Wars in the Middle East? “Introducing “ is a false description to market an ancient podcast as current. Deceptive marketing.

    Shameful
Good story with general and uninspired Islamophobia sprinkled throughout. 1 star for that reason.

    Great but where’s the rest?
Is there going to be another episode after The Hunt for KSM? It feels like the series ended abruptly. I hope there’s more because I love it!

    Very Informative and Emotional
This was a great way to tell the stories of the WTC atrocities. Hearing from this directly impacted as well as those responsible for investigating the crimes.

    Ok but missing some details
The podcast is well done. But how was all this financed? Motivation might have been hatred and disdain, but there is a financial motive too and a need for a bankroll to keep everyone satisfied and motivated. The FBI had worked with US Postal Inspectors and others to determine financing was not all from wealthy foreign entities, but was partially funded by a peculiar way- manufacturer coupons, fake store fronts and back room cutting and redemption of Sunday FSI coupons. Would like to know more about that and what the FBI found.

    Why listen to this?
Blindspot season 1 made this same podcast years ago. This is a trash retread.

    Great informational podcast
This podcast gives a unique and detailed timeline of events which led up to the 1993 WTC bombing. Each individual episode tells a story and provides the context of the planning and execution of the terrorist attack and then the exhaustive manhunt to find its perpetrators. Highly recommended.

    Saddest news ever
Still unreal today. For a month's relief and the lighter side of news you have to listen to "community News by Paul and Sasha." It will make you laugh and smile.

    Smerling is the man
Marc Smerling is the mighty of mighties when it comes to investigative crime podcasts. Crimetown remains my all-time fave. The reporting is solid, and the story is strong. It’s just ling enough to be captivating without dragging. Congratulations, Marc. What’s next?

    I never knew…
I was a little girl when this took place, so I definitely don’t remember the details. Thank you for going into depth on the events surrounding this tragedy.

    So Well Done!!
This was a really great Podcast. I have grown up through all of these events but never fully understood what actually happened, why, or even how these things could have happened. Thank you for bringing some of this history to light. I also want to thank all of the individuals who have risked their lives and still do each day to protect our freedom! You are so appreciated. We will never forget!

    Old school documentary podcast
Now that there are thousands of documentary-style podcasts in the world, I feel like less than 10% live up to the standards of what excellent storytelling podcasting used to be. This one meets and exceeds the line. So worth a listen. Thanks y’all!
  • ShoddySkill
    Phenomenal
Excellent series from start to finish. Hope to get more like this in the future

Would prefer longer episodes or binge ability release
I love the story and the content and the production, but do not like having to wait a full week in between episodes to only get a 30 minute episode. Most podcasts that are released weekly are at least an hour long.. so I do enjoy this podcast, but I also feel disappointed at the same time.
  • DMTNYC
    Glacial
This is well researched and the episodes are interesting but with each being 20 minutes, and released weekly the pace is slow like molasses. They should make longer episodes or release more often.

    Inside 1WTC my 93 experience
My mother was a Port Authority of NY/NJ employee working in 1WTC. I worked in 1WFC for American Express. Every day we enjoyed spending lunch time together. Until now the 1993 bombing has barely been mentioned in American history. I still have nightmares about that day. I remember the explosion I was sitting in my mother’s office in tower 1 when the bomb threw us across the room. I remember my fear and the crowds off people running down smoke filled dark staircases. I remember the moment when my mother unable to continue collapsed on those staircases and I remember the 2 brave men that tried to help her. I remember laying with her on the floor until NYFD personnel came to rescue us and transport us to Beekman Downtown Hospital I don’t know how many people realize or remember the bombing. Last time I spoke with someone with the 9/11 memorial they categorized 1993 as an “incident”.

    Tradebom
This podcast was so well done. The sound effects and story writing were excellent and truly depicted a harrowing story. I was very impressed by the accents and music. Recommend listening to this and never forgetting this attack on our humanity.

    Another great podcast from Apple
Excellent documentary style pod. Well researched and each episode keeps you on edge waiting for the next one. Recommended, as is their Unabomber pod.

    Yet another Smerling winner
Everything Marc Smerling touches turns to gold and this pod (so far) is no exception. Aside from the quality of the work, from a substantive standpoint, it is yet another example of much we knew about the 9/11 attackers for *years* in advance. We had these guys in our sights and we took our eye off the ball. 9/11 was imminently avoidable on so many different fronts and this pod does a great job of laying out the case, without making this separate but related story all about the world-changing attack that would follow 8 years later.

    Short
Info and story are good, but how are you going to release one 20 minute episode a week with 3 minutes of ads to cut into that? Dumb. Weekly episode release is ridiculous with that short of episodes…or else it would be 4 stars

    Enthralling and Intimate
Love this method of story telling. I need to pace myself on the episodes. I am waiting on the edge of my seat.
  • Shelle_My_Belle
    So intriguing
This story hasn’t been told a lot so it’s a lot of new information to me… so I’m very intrigued. Great re-enactments. I often forget it’s not the real witnesses being interviewed.

    Excellent podcast. Well done.

Podcast with potential, but poorly executed
The lag time between each episode is ridiculously long. And then the latest episode to drop is 20 minutes!? I listened to The History Channel’s podcast Blindspot which covered this topic and the historical/cultural lead up to 9/11. I think I’ll just go back and listen to that investigation again!
  • bigtexan28
    Deja vu
I swear this story has already been told by another podcast I just can’t remember the name.
  • JohnnyMia1
Compelling yes. Now where is it!?
Maybe I’m new at this but wonder where is the rest of the show? Is not releasing it a suspense-marketing toll. I just don’t get it. As depressing is the whole thing is at first 2 episodes I’m saying ‘YEAH, I’ll keep watching then there is no 4th’ now I don’t think I will. The topic is too painful to endure.
  • sharicohenlind
    Extremely Interesting
My brother worked in the trade center at the time. He wasn’t working that day, but after this happened he never went back.

    Compelling
So far (3 episodes), this is an informative, engaging and well produced podcast that provides an immersive and comprehensive look at the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. It weaves original source material with full production techniques that goes beyond earlier podcasts. The narrative of the players involved in the bombing and investigations add a complex humanity to the compelling story.
