Murder in the Hollywood Hills

Kristi Johnson was shopping at a mall in Los Angeles when a man invited her to a photo shoot for the next Bond film. That afternoon, the 21-year-old got into her little white sportscar and drove to the shoot location up in the Hollywood Hills. She was never seen alive again. In Dateline’s latest podcast, Keith Morrison takes us to the city of dreams for the story of a smooth-talking predator who lured young women into a nightmare with promises of fame and fortune. It’s the story of how he evaded justice for years. But most of all, it’s the story of a group of women who banded together to lock him up for good.Beginning Tuesday, March 26th you can listen to the latest episodes of Murder in the Hollywood Hills, completely free. Good
Good but drags on a little at the end. Also how many time can I hear him say the perpetrator’s name.

Could only listen to three minutes
Keith The Morrisons over the top, overly dramatic made up and fake delivery turned me off completely. Couldn’t listen to more than 3 minutes.

My mom was almost his victim
My mother was in LA in 1989. She always told us a story about feeling like someone was following her when she was on my dad’s business trip at the West Bonaventure Hotel. When she turned around, she saw a man. As she started walking faster, so did he. She was overwhelmed with fear and sprinted and somehow made it to an elevator before he could get to her. She was able to find a group of men and hysterically explained to them what had happened, and they brought her to security. Security also called my dad and asked that he come back to the hotel from work. To this day, she can still describe his outfit. Security had said there had been alerted to a man stalking women at the hotel. When my mom watched the dateline episode, she immediately knew the man in the episode was her could-have-been attacker.

Host’s melodramatic voice and phrasings ruin it
    Interesting story. Insufferable host.

    Another great Dateline podcast series!
I remember this case when it happened, I lived in LA at the time. I had no idea of how things have unfolded since then. I can’t believe such a violent sex offender will have continuous chances for parole, that’s terrifying. Thank you for waking people up to this, I hope California is paying attention.

    My least favorite Dateline series
Sadly, this was a disappointing series compared to others done by Keith and Dateline. The story, while incredibly sad, just did not have the robustness and meat required for a 6-episode series. The final episode felt completely disconnected from the main story and was more about an ego trip for the main female contributor.

    Thriller
Keith Morrison is the man ! Great reporting

    Honestly…
To be honest… this podcast series has been my LEAST favorite of all… and I’m a diehard Dateline fan! The episodes did not manage to hold my interest. I’m fact, it felt very… anticlimactic. The case itself would have been great to produce as a new, singular, hour long episode of Dateline… but as a podcast series… it was as if they created it just to produce a new show, dragging it out. I don’t know…. This time, I wasn't impressed.

    Mesmerizing
Listening to this was mesmerizing. The story is told in a very compelling way, and the fact that is a true and current story makes it even more gripping. I was in awe of Cathy DeBuono and all the other women that were part of the podcast retelling their history. This deserves 5 stars and a Netflix series.

Another example of the excellence of Keith Morrison
As always Keith Morrison makes anything he reports on real to the listener. He is a born storyteller and I am always impressed with his work.

    It’s a Simple Formula
I see Keith Morrison I listen. He is datelines golden goose and every podcast he narrates is a golden egg. Keep em coming!

A story that helps restore our faith in humanity
Yes, it's about a murderer, and the people he hurt like Kristi Johnson and her mother Terry Hall - but it's also about the people who brought him down, like Cathy DeBuono who he targeted but she was tough and refused to be a victim. It's about people like Susan Murphy who came forward to provide descriptions not just of the killer but also of key details that helped detectives to put the pieces together. It's about Christine Kludjian, whom he assaulted but she was able to fight him off. It's about Detective Virginia Obenchain who worked the case even when others would have given up. It is a story with tragedy, but it is ultimately about hope. It's a story about a group of people who could have done the right thing... and did. We need more stories like this to be shared, to restore our faith in humanity.

    Thanks for leaving us hanging.
Would have given this a better rating, but cutting off after 4 episodes is mean. Charge or don’t charge, but trying to trick people into a subscription just drives them away.
  • Beckalobe
    Compelling, tragic and bananas!
    Another Dateline knockout. Thanks Keith

    More than meets the eye?
Repeated focal points on this woman’s physical features as achievement/talent is gross. I’m sure there was more to her than being a “Bond Girl” but we won’t get it from this story. Disappointing.

No one does it like Keith
Keith Morrison is the David Attenborough of true crime. If he’s narrating it you know I’m listening to it.

    Keith does it again!
Best host. Compelling story. Love the drama he brings to the table.

    Episode 2??
Dateline is great, but this series was released in a weird way. Some episodes are there, others are not. Where did episode 2 go??
  • Keeping it 💯 24/7

    Keith Morrison is Masterful
Love this show! Keith Morrison is a masterful host as usual, and Dateline NBC completely nails the audio mix absolutely perfectly which is why Dateline is better than other similar shows. In addition to Keith’s gift of narration, whoever edits the audio for all of Dateline NBC deserves awards - it’s compelling, brilliant and entirely consuming like a great song. Thank you for going all the way to excellence, it’s really impressive.

    It’s not free
This was advertised as free and then two episodes in ya gotta pay up! Rip off! Also, dude, stop trying so hard as narrator, it’s super distracting. What’s with the pregnant pauses every…sentence? Annoying

    Keith your voice…..
Keith, your voice turns me on like no other! I listen to you tell your tales while I ride my husband to Kingdom come! It is the most invigorating feeling as I literally see stars!! It’s a truly MAGICAL EXPERIENCE and I’m sure you have this effect on all the other true crime junkies too! Thank you, Sir!!! 😍🥰😘

    Blue eyes blond, beautiful
Murder in the Hollywood Hills points out one of the problems with this country. Keith Morrison obsesses over the blond blue eyed woman missing in episode one. Mentions her features multiple times. The LAPD immediately believes the missing report of her roommate and immediately holds an actual press conference about her. An article appeared about her in the LA times. Keep that thought in your mind and listen to Untold stories: Black and missing. Until the police and the Keith Morrisons of the world treat girls and women of all persuasions the same, this country will never be well.

    Excellent show and series
The writing for all the dateline podcasts is excellent. This Hollywood one is particularly gripping, with the women helping take down the predator. I can’t wait for the next episode.

    Annoying
This show repeats itself a million times and the narrators voice is unbearable.

    Really good
I have never heard about this unfortunate case and am enjoying this podcast.

    Intriguing but…
A great listen so far. But come on folks, La Cienega x Romaine is NOT considered West LA. Surely, that’s an easy one to fact check.

    Great show
    Always a good listen
