You Probably Think This Story’s About You

This isn’t your typical true crime story.Brittani Ard steps back into the shadowy labyrinth of memories, scars, and fragile ties that bind us to our past. Where wounds still ache and the bonds of connection blur between salvation and entrapment. After revealing her own story in the first 8 chapters, she’s pulling at the threads of the past—threads so delicate they threaten to unravel everything. This time, it’s not just her story. It’s the stories of others whose lives intertwine with hers in ways no one could have predicted. A woman searches for a photograph of her abusive ex, but the picture holds more than just memories. A foster youth exchanges black trash bags for a voice that refuses to be silenced anymore, revealing a haunting past that demands to be heard. And a story of rekindled love, as strength and vulnerability collide to reveal what was always meant to be.You Probably Think This Story’s About You is raw, haunting, and achingly human—a tapestry of messy, beautiful lessons stitched together by the lives we touch and the stories we share. The secrets we carried no longer have power over us

    The best!
Love your deadpan sharp delivery. Such a beautiful edge to tell a story. Can’t wait for your future seasons.

    Ehhh
I got through part of the way on episode six and I just couldn’t take it anymore. All of this could be told in two episodes instead of 15 or whatever it is. Referencing season one.

    Very Strange Podcast
I really liked this at first but it quickly went off the rails after the first couple of episodes. It was about a bad boyfriend but then suddenly it was about a dead sister? And then without explanation it was about the boyfriend again? With a grandmother making random appearances, and nothing connecting any of the stories? I’m confused and by the end of Season 1 it was just repeating the same thing. I won’t be listening to future seasons.

    Personal, raw, compassionate, authentic
I love what you are doing here, Brittani. As a survivor of abuse as a child, I enjoy you giving a voice to the survivors.

    Like this podcast
I like this podcast very much. I know it’s a true crime, it’s telling the side of the crime that is the victim. She very much share shares the inner dialogue that goes on within our minds about what did I do? How did I get here why me? I can completely relate. I asked that too, and my victimization happened when I was 10. It seems ludicrous to me as an adult to think that a 10-year-old could blame herself. But it’s true the human brain.

    Terrible Podcast
It took 3 episodes for her to get to the punchline and it wasn’t some big reveal.

    Too much Brit
We heard your story girl. Let your guest speak. Gives the ick big time.

    I love Brit!
    Refreshingly Different.

    Boring
There is so much random babble in this podcast and no cohesive narrative thread, so it’s not engaging at all. I tried listening to a few episodes and I found myself skipping forward multiple times to see if there was anything to justify listening further

Really enjoying the stories in the second season

    Zzzzzz
The content on this podcast is good. The narration is not. It sounds so scripted and monotone, I could fall asleep.

Why would i think this story’s about me
The podcast is standard lazy-true-crime-adjacent podcast fare, aka a tiny kernel of story milked for all the ad money it can get over 8 episodes. fine. But i dont understand the title, which they play a little soundbite of at the beginning of EVERY episode along with a stupid musical drop. The podcast is straightforwardly about the narrator, plus s2 other sad stories about various mistreated people… nothing at all that would necessitate the name “you probably think this story’s about you”. I dont! I never did!! Anyway listen if you want more podcast slop

    Good podcast, but
I could love this podcast. The host needs to let the guests tell their own story, without all the commentary. It’s really unnecessary. Just let the stories be told!

    Eh
I wanted to like it but it just didn't really go anywhere? Nobody Should Believe Me sent me over so I was expecting a little bit more. It's very well produced in the sense that it has good editing and production, but I would have wanted to hear more from the other victims. We heard a LOT about our host and her family but to be honest it just got very rambly. I think Sweet Bobby was a bit more of what I was hoping for. Or like Scamanda where someone's web of lies is totally unmasked

    Slow and boring
There’s a big build up to absolutely nothing.

    Amazing
This is an amazing personal journey that had me hooked within the first 10 minutes. Well produced and excellent storytelling!! Keep us posted with more seasons.

A Must Listen For All Women
This is one of the best podcasts I’ve listened too. Brittani is so relatable. Her story has happened to me, my sisters, women I’ve met in various places and situations. It’s scary to think of the number of women who have been victims of predators. The “Me Too” movement only scratches the surface. Women & children are victimized everyday. Wake Up America! Brittani’s very brave to share her story - Women need to be aware of the extent of abuse happening in America every single day…Thank you for being strong enough to tell your story on a public forum. I feel a little less alone. 💔

    Meh
I was looking forward to listening to this podcast after it was recommended by a different one that I live… but I am very underwhelmed. As far as season 1: It’s boring and kind of a non story. It could have been one episode

    New only on episode 7

Don’t waste your time on this ‘podcast,’ it’s mind-numbing incoherent rambling. I tried, I really tried.

    A Good Listen
I enjoyed binging season one. There’s enough there to keep listening, but I wouldn’t call any one episode riveting. I can understand how some listeners would get lost if taking several days between episodes and not be able to stay on track. There is a literary benefit of jumping around on a timeline, but I don’t think this show nailed that concept. Instead, it comes across as unorganized loose ends. I can tell that honoring confidentiality is important to the creators, but I am craving more details. I love Brittani’s soothing voice. Will definitely give season two a listen.

    I Really Tried
This is my kind of podcast but I cannot listen to this one. For one, it’s poorly executed. All of the sound bites and extra noise is distracting. The part that I can’t stand is the narrators voice. She sounds like she could not care less about what she’s talking about. She sounds bored and indifferent. She actually takes deep sighs while she’s reading as if she wanted to be anywhere else. I cannot do it!

This is resonating with me so deeply. SO deeply… your vulnerability is incredible. I see some poor reviews and genuinely believe that these are just people who are fortunate enough to NOT have a connection to a story like this. Because those of us who have a “Kanan” or even have experienced a manipulative relationship that is comparable appreciate this story and YOU! Very glad I found this podcast… it makes me feel less alone, less crazy, and less broken.

    Did I miss something?
Truly wondering if the episodes played out of order or what exactly even happened here or the point. Honestly have no clue what the dude she dated on hinge and other women dating him, had to do with her sister and dad and her sister being killed by her boyfriend. I seriously confused…. What the heck did I just listen to and was there truly no ending or point?
  • Actual "customer"
    And the story is??
We all have a story but not all deserve a podcast. During the first episode you might be fooled that something worth telling is going to happen; it doesn’t. The narrative is all over the place; needs an editor.
  • oakhh3
Still don’t know what she’s talking about
This is not a story. It’s a rambling audio diary.
  • Cd0713
    Great storytelling!
Heard about this from Nobody Should Believe Me and binged the whole season in two days. Can’t wait for the next season!
  • Nika10041981
    Great story
Britt, you’re such a great storyteller. I couldn’t stop listening to your podcast. I can relate to almost everything about dating though. This is an eye opening podcast. I wish I heard it 12 years ago lol! Thank you for sharing not only your story but also other women stories!!! I admire you as a person you are strong and super brave! Thanks again!!!
  • thanks satan
    SO GOOD
WOW!!!!! Thank you Brit, this podcast is so compelling!
  • hope77li🥰🥰🥰😚😍
    Psychopaths…
This show is absolutely amazing! I wanted to say that not all psychopaths are killers or want to hurt someone. There are people that are psychopaths that are walking around just like normal people but have zero empathy and must teach themselves what empathy is to other people.
  • Stargirlbee
Loved this for what it is. Not comparing other pods bc it’s a unit putting their own content out.
You can read every episode descriptions so it’s really lazy for so many of these reviews to act like you can’t & soooo self absorbed to think a persons past doesn’t affect their present. If you expect true crime to entertain only then you are oblivious and weird 🙂‍↔️
  • Ivakota
    So sincere
Thank you, Brittani, for sharing yourself so openly. It has allowed me to feel more confident to be honest with myself and with others. Your story was way more than entertainment for me. Thank you
  • PW from GR
    And the point is…?
Sorry that this woman a hard childhood and her heart broken by being lied to by an a—hole, but the story is pointless, boring, poorly written and the host drones on.
  • HLucas28
    Awful
Just a lady that unfortunately got played. Nothing crazy happens just a long “woe is me” story.
  • gikeith1
    Wait for it…
I waited and waited for the climax of the story… but nothing. The whole story could have been summed up in one episode. Ironically, the most interesting episode was about her sister who may have been murdered. Her murder was left unchecked. I think every one deals with death differently, but I think it's an injustice to have a potentially guilty man harm another woman if you think he is the culprit. Just my two cents. Use your energy into protecting women from physical harm.
  • TNelly311
    Soooo slow and boring
I’m so sorry. I wanted to be supportive. This was such a dud. There’s literally no change of what you find out in the 2nd episode to the end. Don’t waste your time.
  • Long Time Apple User53
    Disjointed & Uninteresting
This podcast needed an editor, desperately. The story is not that interesting, switches gears abruptly, and comes off as self-absorbed. There are too many insignificant details and not enough in the beginning to help me feel real empathy for the author. Hard pass.
  • Believerhealing
Same story same life different devil
I’m SO glad you are telling your story I can relate in many levels even though my mom did recover well but the wounds still catapulted me into toxic men. My ex husband I used to refer to as “dirty John” like the Netflix series story Why do they all claim that they have a military background or are actually in military and then also in medical field? That’s such a crazy coincidence it has to say something about these con artists narcissistic men Too many commonalities This podcast has been my therapy on top of me who has also become friends with my exs girls and I think that overall realization that it’s not just you has been my biggest clarity
  • Robyn555
Would have benefitted from an editor
I wanted to love this podcast since I love Betrayal, Dirty John and Something Was Wrong (first few seasons) but it kind of wanders leading you… nowhere. There’s no climax, no confrontation, nothing. It also takes a sharp left turn at episode 3 to talk about the hosts entire life; I skipped those and listened again when the conversation got back on track. Even then, it’s just like a girlfriend talking about some lying, cheating guy she dated for hours. I think an editor would have helped keep the storyline clear and cut it to about three episodes.
  • Quincys_Girl
    Loved it
I listened to this while I was at work, loved it and my day flew by. I am just going to say I didn’t mind the story change My heart broke for her and her dad. She is a GREAT story teller. I wish I could see a picture of the man that manipulated all of these great women, I think something more is wrong with him than just being a dirt bag. He might be a psychopath, they all dodged a giant bullet. There is a really great lesson in this story, and that is to ALWAYS trust your womanly instincts. They are there to save your life.
  • Willie McNelson
    Starts strong- fades out
I really wanted to like this one. You can relate to the narrator so much in the first episode or two even, but then the story goes all over the place. It shifts from a story that is along the lines of “Dear John” and ends up being about every shi—y thing that happened to this person (Which I feel bad for but seems a little bit like a bait and switch). That said, I did listen to all eight episodes. I just couldn’t take any of the bonus content…. it’s kind of like listening to that one friend at the office that always has a problem.

    Love this
We have to take the power back from men ❤️ Please do season 2 - this was an amazing podcast to listen too!!

    Don't stop
I stopped after the subject changed from her terrible boyfriend, to her life. I'm so glad it was still in my queue and kept playing the podcast, is so much more to her the story, so good. I couldn't stop listening till I was all done! Now I'm listing to bonus episodes! I loved this show, and can't wait for season 2!
  • mea517
Awful, there is no story here.
I would rather rawdog an 8 hour flight than to listen to any of this drivel. There is no story, nothing interesting happens, in fact nothing at all happens. It’s chaotic, disorganized and just simply nonsensical. Don’t let the first episode fool you, it will lead you to believe there is a story or plot that will entertain you; there is not.
  • Mcayers86
    Boring
Lost interest once she began into her own story which seemed disorganized. That coupled with the republican commercials every break had me over it by season 4
  • asc0502
    brave, heart rending, real
thank you for the courage it’s taken to tell this story, with all the pain and cringey-ness. It means we can start telling the unvarnished truths of the shame of being associated with this kind of deeply sick individual. bravo’
  • NecronLord3
    What is this podcast about?
I’ve listened to every episode and have not one clue what the purpose of this podcast is supposed to be about. The narrator talks about subjects that we the listener don’t know anything about. For example she references her sister having passed away then in episode 5 they explain that she was murdered but the killer made it look like a suicide? Oh okay and episode 1 is all about how the narrator was catfished? Okay never again referenced in episodes 2-5. This show is being advertised on other Podcasts and yet the podcast doesn’t live up to the advertising in any way. Highly NOT recommended!
