SaintRunThe perfect podcast to drum up my 80s/90s childhoodI love this show!!! The retroist is awesome!!! The details and facts he gives in all of his shows are truly magical. Some I knew but some I had no idea. I have recently let my 9yr old son listen to some of the shows and he loves them. Sad to say but sometimes he says he wishes he could live in the 80s. Thanks so much Retroist for keeping this nostalgic filled fun podcast of our childhood alive. Keep rocking these out. No Retreat No Surrender!!!

benonemusicThe Smart, Knowledgeable 80s Friend You Never Knew You HadAs a pop culture enthusiast who grew up in NYC during the 80s, I was blown away when I discovered this podcast. The host chooses single topics, from Wizardry to My Bodyguard, recounts very relatable personal experiences, and then proceeds to tell you all sorts of interesting things about them, some of which you probably knew but a lot you will learn on the shows. The host is no-nonsense and disciplined, distilling information on the topic from the basics to the fascinating, goes on interesting tangents but returns to the topic at hand. The shows are tightly produced and it feels like not a second is wasted. I thought I was saturated on 80s nostalgia, but I was energized by this show, which will be a happy addition to my podcast rotation. Highly recommended!

ComixboyADDICTED!!I cannot get enough of this podcast. From the stories of how the topics fit into his life to the topics themselves. I cannot get enough of this show. It takes me back to my childhood in PA and all the wonder of the 80’s. Those of us that grew up in this time had the best of both worlds. Riding bikes and catching lightening bugs as well as the rapid growth of technology. We watched the world change with us in amazing ways. It makes the world hard to live in now…where’s the fun? Well, this podcast brings it all back. The fun, the adventure, the history, and mostly the innocent joy. Thank you for this podcast. Thank you for all you share. Thank you for being so creative.

ufmwcEntertaining podcast…Retroist is a fun listen. *Love* the food topics (ie Pizza Hut). The only quibble is that the episodes are way too short. Should consider bumping up the content to at least 30min to an hour long. Topics leave a lot of uncovered fruit hanging. Overall though a really good time and often informative… UPDATE: The Retroist Cast continues to be an absolute gem and treasure trove of memories. Just stellar!

PeterPumpkinEater11Great podcast! But…This is an amazing podcast! I really like and am fascinated with retro technology! I like how the host relates the topic of every episode to something that happened in his life! There are many good parts but just one bad part! The good parts of The Retroist: -the host plays a commercial for a product the episode is focused on -the host relates the topic of every episode to something in his life -the host gives a lot of information about the topic of every episode (I didn’t even know that the capacitance electronic disc even existed until I listened to this podcast!) The bad parts of The Retroist: -The music after the host says “and without further ado, let’s start the show” is SO DARN LONG!!!😡. It would be better if the music was about 10-15 seconds instead of about 35-45 seconds long. -The episodes are ridiculously short! These episodes are much shorter than the episodes of other podcasts! The episodes are about 19-40 minutes long! Overall, the good parts of this podcast outweigh the bad parts! This is a very good podcast! I would highly recommend this podcast to anyone who likes retro stuff!

Private BrianMemory Box for Children of a Certain AgeIf you’re a 70s-80s kid or just have an interest in the era there’s simply no better show that recaps a pop culture topic or experience better. From the foods we ate, the toys we played with or the adventures we had in our towns this podcast has it all. Episodes tend to be tightly put together without a lot of filler. I look forward to every new episode in my feed.

Spun counterguyA guided tour to your childhoodThe Retroist is a lover letter to the media, technology and other phenoms of ages past. The host is passionate but devoid of over the top hyperbole. It's wonderful getting to hear the backstories of things from my childhood that I obessed over. God bless the Retroist!

Joe B14Info Packed! If you like all things retro this is the channel for you. The Retroist promises “an info packed show” at the beginning of each episode and man does he deliver! Very methodical approach and does a deep dive into each topic. There’s things you learn despite how much you feel you know about the show, The Retroist will find something to surprise you. I highly recommend.

Classicgamer88the best podcast everThe memories that this podcast brings back are just amazing. When I listen to this podcast it takes me right back to my childhood and I just want to stay there forever and never stop listening. I can say without a doubt this is the best podcast I have ever listened to. I have been listening since the beginning in 2009 and I don’t know why it took me this long to write a review. Thank you for all the amazing content you provide. I’m looking forward to many more great episodes.

kevbot217Fantastic and funI’ve been listening to the show for a little while, and always like it. But the newest episode about Chicken McNuggets really hit me in my nostalgia, and it was really cool to learn all the company machinations behind the making of them. Plus, I had no idea that beef was once way more popular than chicken. Great episode! Great show!
-
Jake_90r1Informative & FunI like the amount of information presented and the straightforward tone wherein he doesn’t try to be funny like every other podcaster. It’s also really cool as a millennial to hear from someone who worked in retail in the 80s and 90s when these things happened.
-
MindOfSmoothieA nice retro podcastGrowing up in the 80s I have so many found memories of the programming, television, movies, and even the commercials. The Retroist Podcast delivers all that and more! The podcast was listed in my recommendations and I am glad that it was. They episodes are just the right length for binging. I just started listening last Friday with the most current episode and working my way back. I am already into 2015! Thanks for the entertainment!

MomgrateIf Ben Stein’s character from “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” had a podcast…What you’re going to get from this podcast is going to depend on how important it is to you that you be entertained as well as informed. The good: There is plenty to enjoy here. You will get a wealth of information from deep dives into subject matter pertaining to your childhood. The bad: If you’re like me, you won’t get that wealth of information because you will have fallen asleep listening to the only host. Good grief… this fella needs a co-host badly. Somebody to liven it up and play off his emotionless delivery. It’s as though every episode comes on the heels of a 14-hour drive back from a 4 week Disney trip with his nagging wife and 10 children. I’d rather hear Soundwave from “Transformers” or even the “G.I. Joe” Cobra Commander screeching at the top of his lungs about these topics than this poor guy’s monotone utterances. It’s ASMR for nostalgic people.

IArtYearbookBorn in the late 60s or the 70s?This is the podcast for you! I love this podcast not only for the content, but for the way it is delivered. The show has a defined format and doesn’t vary from it. You don’t have to listen to mindless chatter between hosts before getting to the content. And best of all, the host always finds a way to connect the topic to a personal experience. While it may not be the same personal experience as my own, it almost always jogs the memory of one of my own.

Slapshotguy626Some of my favorite memoriesHow about a Starcastle (the arcade game) episode?

He-BenWhat a Podcast!!!I have followed this podcast for a while hike, but only recently discovered how truly EXHAUSTIVE the content is! It’s amazing and well-researched, and there is so much content that It’s hard to imagine someone not finding a few episodes that they can relate to and enjoy. This show serves as an audio encyclopedia of pop culture…it is one of my go-to shows.
-
djmikegsstill loaded with awesomeness !!I have listened to every one of these podcasts....being an 80's kid, I identify with alot of these. The neat way in which the subject is presented is cool. The little commercials are also a nice touch. brings the memories flooding back !! Cant wait to hear more !! 2022 The retroist continues to deliver quality content and I cant wait for each new episode!

jsamp401The Portal to YesterdayThis podcast provides an entertaining and relaxing way to travel back to those after school afternoons and Saturday mornings when life still felt magical and joy felt infinite. I can't possibly recommend this podcast any higher. I listen to many different shows, but this is easily on my top five list.
-
Wfljr76What a great podcast! The material, the tone, the atmosphere….it all gives me the warm-fuzzies. Have recommended this podcast to everyone I know my age!

Mbogdan75One of the Best Nostalgia Podcasts Around…Like so many others, I found this podcast during the pandemic of 2020, and I’m so glad I did. There’s no shortage of 80’s themed podcasts available, but retroist is different; while each episode focuses on one specific subject, like Miami Vice, Pizza Hut, Atari 5200, etc. What makes this different (to me) is the focus. Each episode discusses the necessary information to remind you of the topic, or learn about something that maybe you didn’t experience back in the day. Each episode is concise, but thorough. Great show! Easy to binge.
-
TIC's ArcadeThe best retro podcast out there.Truly the highlight of my drive to work. Incredible job at bringing nostalgia to life.
-
Trevor 1223Gives me warm fuzziesListening is like wrapping up in a warm blanket on the family couch with the blue glow of the tv lighting your face.
-
bjbear71Thorough and detailed!!Excellent podcast that tells all about the subject covered, complete with retro ads. I guarantee that you will learn something you did not know before; give Retroist a listen! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

RushNoleFantastic blast of nostalgiaI absolutely love this podcast. Each episode takes me back to the days when everything was new and exciting, and makes me remember what it was like to be a kid. The host has a great "podcast voice" and it's fun to hear his own personal stories as they relate to each episode's topic. He also does a good amount of research and I always learn something new each time I listen. Highly recommend for fans of 70's/80's pop culture!
-
joijoiQuarantine mood saverQuarantine forced me to think of the good old days...my 80s childhood. This podcast reminds me of how simple and entertaining life was. So many good memories- tv shows, music, toys. Thank you for allowing my mind to escape from the worries of 2020 in an informative and enjoyable way.

ChuckX from HoustonIs it really alright?Yep! It's alright to look fondly on things in the past. Thanks to this podcast, I'm reminded of those experience I shared and I learn the worth of those I missed. Some of the pop culture experiences from the 80s-90s I shared with my daughters, who were growing up at that time. Others that I missed, such as the 'Inhumanoids' series, I now get to go back and retro-experience. What a deal! Thanks, Retroist!
-
They call him..ROBOGreat!!I absolutely love this podcast. Such a fun listen and I love how the commercials are snuck in there. Please keep up the great work, and I would love to hear them more frequently. Thanks for sharing these!

RetroFanGrrrlA Cozy Escape from the OrdinaryThe Retroist is my favorite escape from the modern world. It’s my happy place, safe and warm, never referencing current events or politics, but simply taking me back to cozy places. The Retroist gives me a few minutes to relax and unwind with old friends like “Magnum P.I.,” “Pitfall!,” “New Coke,” “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving,” “Kodak Disc,” “Trading Places,” “Lazer Tag,” and many others. The Retroist has heart. Both the podcast and the host, who goes by the same name, make me long for the awesomeness of my youth. This guy truly understands nostalgia at its core. He doesn’t tear down the past. Unlike other commenters on the pop culture of my youth, he’s not snarky. He never says, “look how dumb we were for liking this thing.” Instead, he provides sincere observations about the wonders of the past. Though The Retroist provides tons of facts about the topic at hand, it’s not the “what” that makes the show so compelling, but rather the “why.” He covers why a toy or a movie, for instance, was special at the time and worth remembering today. The show provides details and context that I never knew, which enriches my already fond memories of toys, games, tv shows, movies, etc. The host’s earnestness is infectious. I am even won over to subjects that I never cared about at the time, causing me to search for more about lesser known treasures and forgotten favorites, such as “Hunt the Wumpus,” “Animalympics” and “Gymkata.” The retroist makes me feel, makes me reflect, makes me smile. The host’s personal stories that introduce each show set the tone for the subject and reveal a good amount about the sweet nature of The Retroist himself. As he fondly, often humorously, recalls a tale about an item, set in the time and place of his youth, it reminds me of the quirkiness of my own family. Not perfect people, but real, memorable and worth revisiting.

Orus1968Brings me backEasily my favorite podcast out there. Great touching memories of growing up in the 1970s and 80s delivered in a thoughtful and vivid way.
-
Logan Purtilar❤️ felt podcastI am forever living in the 80’s so I love this show I can’t get enough of it you can tell it’s done out of love and passion and that’s what makes it so GREAT

Perijove OneTakes Some Getting Used To The Host But RewardingHost has a seriously dry sense of humor and voice that will have you rolling once you get used to it. Sadly, however, his episode output has turned to a trickle.
-
C-MAC 71TremendousThis show is the best. The clean factual presentation is wonderful, so much less overproduced than other shows. He has a wry sense of humor that sneaks in and makes me laugh out loud. All of his recollections are spot on, having grown up in New Jersey myself. Scroll through the list of shows, find one that interests you. Then I dare you not to go back and pick 20 more. It is such an addictive show, and wonderful.
-
tower888Bite-sized Chunks of NostalgiaThis podcast makes me happy. If you are a kid from the 70s, 80s, or 90s, this podcast will bring you right back to your childhood. The monotone host seems odd at first, but after a few episodes I stared to find his delivery to be soothing. This podcast hits me right in the nostalgia "feels". Kudos!

Rockford JaySo Much to loveThe Retroist Podcast is the first podcast I ever subscribed to, and its been a quality affair from then until now. Extremely well produced, with an engaging and consistent format throughout the years, all tied together by the vision and voice of The Retroist himself. The show covers a wide range of pop culture topics - TV shows, movies, video games, toys, music - all through the lens of a warmly nostalgic perspective. You'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between a recent show and a show produced five years ago - the show found its groove and never strayed. Always a treat for the ears of your inner kid. Highly recommended.
-
NinjaMDVERY Well Produced! And Oh, The Memories!!He is able to accomplish the same thing that my favorite shows or movies from the past did by causing you to personally connect with him, his experiences and memories about the topic at hand. In a flooded market of 1-2 hour podcasts that are nothing more than several friends (hosts?) having recorded conversations with each other with zero thought towards production quality and calling it a show, you’ll find a diamond in the rough (or perhaps a power pellet) that goes by the name, The Retroist.
-
theforeshadowVery Rude & AntagonsticI’ve enjoyed the podcast and the host, but apparently misjudged the Retroist. I sent a message noting a catty remarked aimed at gays on the Facebook page and was met with indifference, then rudeness and a flat-out antagonistic attitude. Talk about a surprise. Whether it was a member acting as an Admin or the host himself responding as an Admin, the Retroist is off the playlist. No, the Retroist doesn’t care, but I do. For chrissakes, have some standards, find your morals, something! In the very least, don’t treat fans like crap.
-
mr.yodaFANtastic! The Retroist was one of the first podcasts I subscribed to, and I’ve listened ever since. The show has great reverence for the same things I enjoy, and I also learn new things about stuff I missed (I can't believe I never watched Monster Squad back then!) Keep it up! Scott

MonkeyRN11Great Memories !I love this podcast. It brings back many fun memories of my past. I am 54 years old. The host has a very relaxing voice , it is great to listen to at night while winding down before going to sleep. Thanks for the cool podcast. Check it out now.
-
hermheadlove the retroistThis has been my favorite podcast for years. I so look forward to new episodes. I was so happy to see the 2018 podcast show up in my stream. Wish it was a full episode! I always go back and re-listen to old episodes. Please do an episode on Ultraman.
-
Jenni_S3Loads of Fun!I always learn something new about the fantastic era when I grew up. And the stories about the family, that often start the show, are always a treat! Hearing the old commercials, the music, I'm never disappointed by a show from the Retroist. It's terrific to spend time with you!
-
BlroutBest podcast. This is probably my favorite podcast ever. Every episode makes my heart happy.
-
apt2223Could be so much moreI was really hoping to like this, but it is just too slow-paced. The host needs someone to talk to, because right now, it's just him reading from notes. In a dull, almost monotone voice. For some reason, he tells you the birth year of every actor he mentions. Someone else said it sounds like he is reading from Wikipedia, and I have to agree. I don't know how you make a podcast about a movie like Xanadu boring, but dang if he didn't manage it. I think this podcast could be good if this guy found a partner to hold coversations with.
-
CRPotomacBrilliant show! One of my favorite podcasts. Have already listened to them all in the past, but have just started to listen again, this time with my oldest child who is in love with learning about pop culture of the past!
-
Kerry77634Incredibly fun showThe 80s are the foundation of my pop culture life. I love the focus of this series, particularly the video game focused episodes.
