Each month, LIGHTSPEED brings you a mix of original short stories and flash fiction featuring a variety of authors, from the bestsellers and award-winners you already know to the best new voices you haven't heard yet. When you read LIGHTSPEED, you'll see where science fiction and fantasy have come from, where they are now, and where they're going. The LIGHTSPEED podcast, produced by Grammy Award-winning narrator and producer Stefan Rudnicki of Skyboat Media, features original audio short stories 6-8 times a month.

    stop with the political opinions
I do not care about what politics you support or don’t support John Joseph Adams. I listen to fiction stories to escape that nonsense. Please stop complaining about politics or i’ll have to unfollow you.

    So disillusioned
This podcast was one of the bright spots that kept me going through the despairing months after the 2016 election. And now you are selling your souls by accepting political ads. I can no longer support the podcasts of John Joseph Adams.

    Best podcast ever
Been here almost since the beginning and it’s been amazing to watch the writers that you feature blossom and grow. I hope you get everything you want in life whoever does this podcast because it’s wonderful.

Episodes are of very mixed quality
The latest episode „Money in the Bank“ was not up to standard to a point that made me unsubscribe from the show.

    Timely.
Truly worthwhile. Easy listening yet challenging stories.

Criticisms from the dude introducing stories?
I’m not here for the intro person to tear the story apart, offer his opinions, or otherwise criticize the stories, IM HERE FOR THE STORIES. 2 stars until that nonsense stops. Later addition: If PC nonsense and hearing about politics (Trump) during your sci fi is what you want, this cast is for you. One star.

    Circling the drain
Love this sci-fi podcast. All the not-so-subtle insane leftist undertones are present, like men can become women, a baby is not a baby until it hits the birth canal (despite having unique DNA code at conception), or 3rd wave feminism is a good idea and empowers women! It’s so out there, it really takes you on a journey of the imagination! Or alternatively, it’s become insufferable recycled Rousseau, Freudian and Jacques Derrida trash. A Wonderful Adventure into Great Sci Fi writing
Few things are as fun as a morning listening to Light Speed stories. I love to lay in bed, sip my morning coffee and imagine the worlds, the adventures, the creatures and the people Light Speed writers so intelligently create. It’s literally...A BLAST! The voice acting is excellent!| The pace is good and the sound quality perfect. Occasionally there might be a story that is too much for my delicate sensibilities, but that’s really a testament to how vivid the writing here is. I reccomend, reccomend, reccomend this Podcast to anyone over, let’s say...13 years old.

    Fantasy and Science Fiction
Podcast has all kinds of speculative stories. Audio production team and narration add to the quality writing of the stories themselves. Several gems especially among the 1 hour+ stories.

Hit and Miss and Miss. Updated
Some of the stories are amongst my favorites ever and the narration is usually very good. However many of the stories are attrocious. Many have no point but to reach new levels of weirdness and others have strongly amoral values (primarily as to how scientific advancement is evil and shouldn't be tried). Many others are just terrible in plot and form. In fairness many of the rest that I dislike are simply out of my demographic, with a strong orientation away from the subject's overwhelming core followers (white American males) and towards everything but. You won't find any of the masculine dashing rogues, explorerers, grim soldiers, and daring adventurer protagonists as one might expect from the genre. Instead it features almost exclusively female protagonists; prototypical females, ones that the average girl can relate to (as opposed to the typical genre female with male characteristics superimposed upon). It feels alot like having a bro's girlfriend trying to participate in video game night in contrast to a true nerd girl there to have fun (Hard to explain). Other perspectives include gays, lesbians, third world cultures (true and hardcore perspectives), and sub-cultural americans. To experience these unfamiliar perspectives makes for good lessons in humanity but lacks the immersion I would find with James Raynor, John Carter, Aragorn, and Richard Cipher. I now have a greater understanding of how the rest of the world feels about how us white males have dominated this universal genre and how we have oriented it to ourselves. I've had to lower my rating because the stories have become more polarized to a new sub-genre of sci-fi / fantasy that I greatly dislike. It's a sort-of non fantasy with fantasy elements forced in, usually in the form of an imaginary character personifying a protagonist's petty social problems. Maybe the quality has gone down hill due to the ever growing trend to prioritize demographics over quality. To all the fake liberals (unlike thinking liberals whose natural perview is science fiction) I'm not saying that any race, gender, or sexual orientation has better stories than another, but any time you narrow your selection criteria to one group over the whole, your going to lower your average quality.

    Outstanding.
Well done. Good narration and good acting. Both create a mood that makes the stories more. Now they seem to all be gone. I’ll hunt for your website to see if you’ve moved to another platform.

    Ah!!! it’s so good!
Really good stories. Some aren’t really sci-fi in my opinion but almost all of them are really imaginative and super good. The narrators are also mostly really good. Some really talented people must be working on this. Great job guys!

Exactly what I was looking for.
Edit review. It’s fun. Gets your mind off life a bit. I have been looking to re listen to a podcast and I believe it is titled 500 arrows from over a year ago. Just tried to find it and I can not seek a podcast from maybe 2019. Please make older podcasts available. Thanks Hangman and hangman report Sheila zilinski Wellness mama Anything with Steve Quayle

A recent story titled ‘Gundark Island, or Tars Tarkas’ needs your help really got me. Almost every favorite sci-book I’ve ever read is woven into the narrative, and the protagonist’s life mirrors my own. Excellent material, always

    Best modern speculative/ Sci-Fi
Consistently one of the best podcasts I listen to. I read and listen to many sci-fi and horror short stories and find these some of the most interesting. Great place to pick up newer authors’ names to later read their full novels. I was interested in (and read most of) the classic sci-fi authors from Mary Shelley to Arthur C Clarke, from Wells to Murakami. Also obsessed with many other sub genres from lovecraftian to cyberpunk. I feel like I was stuck in the past until I found this podcast! These stories represent speculative fiction in a completely modern way. They tackle issues of sexuality and gender identity in a way that puts all movies made on the subject to shame. Realistic stories involving queer people in non-forced ways. This is the future or how we write about our future. Charlie Jane Anders, Octavia Butler and Ken Liu were some of the best authors I discovered from this podcast.

    Fantastic
This podcast reminds me of my love for stories, and has gotten me more interested in science fiction than I thought possible. It’s definitely a favorite
  • tomaq
    Great stories, great readings
Today I listened to Kate Elliott's beautifully nuanced and character-driven fantasy "A Compendium of Architecture and the Science of Building," read by Jack Kincaid; Adam-Troy Castro's worthy-of-Douglas-Adams "Greetings, Humanity! Welcome to Your Choice of Species!", read by Stefan Rudnicki; and Manuel Gonzales's scary and somewhat surreal "Scavenge, Rustic Hounds!", read by Gabrielle de Cuir. I've known for years that Lightspeed is a reliable source of excellent science fiction and fantasy. But this is my first time I've heard the podcast. The narration exceeds expectations. These are professional and accomplished voice performances. It's the kind of fiction podcast that's so good you marvel that it's free.

    Very Entertaining
Finally found an additional quality short story as Si-Fi/light horror/Fantasy podcast. Interesting, thought provoking, and captivating. The various voice story tellers are very good and are able to convey the emotions and heart of the story. Highly Recommended as an add to your list of Podcast Subscriptions.

    Getting preachy
I listen to these podcasts to escape reality, to be entertained, to relax. Lately the stories have been getting political correct and preachy. The last episode made mention of micro aggressions, gender bias and other SJW topics that I am trying to escape. I enjoy the stories, they are entertaining, but it might be time to move on.

    Amazing!
This is one of my “never miss” podcasts, more so than ones that have continuing stories. I love this mixed bag. Some are fun. Some are thoughtful. Two of them still haunt me. I get a brand new world each time I drive. The voice actors are amazing and well selected.
  • Jguldi
    Good stories
I'm grateful as heck for free short story readings, & I like the stories.

Some great stories in a minefield of needlessly sexual discriminations
Some of the stories have been the kind that leave you thinking or give you an insight to reality you did not have before. Other stories (many) have nothing to do with science fiction other than that they are set in the future. Fiction regarding fringe sexual practice in the future is not science fiction. Is not interesting to me. It is not what I was expecting when I looked for "science fiction".
  • ajhanson75
    Good variety
This podcast is great! Lots of variety, and I especially like the "X group destroys science fiction" as a way to include more viewpoints from minorities, women, et cetera. Plus, the voice actors who read the short stories are fantastic.
