I listened to 11 episodes today alone
I discovered this show a couple weeks ago and fell in love. As an aspiring architect in college, this is very encouraging and helpful in practical way as well. It’s simply a few guys talking about architecture and life as an architect and it is so enjoyable. It makes data entry and scanning documents a lot more interesting when you’ve got this in your ears!! I have also baked 2 pies to this, and listened during work commutes. Please please bless yourself and listen to this podcast, you won’t regret it!

    Eye-opening in the best ways!
You guys bring so much to the table, especially for students like myself. Some things you touch on, such as the lack of exposure to budgeting constraints in studio courses, have become talking points between students and faculty concerning our design programs. Great content, great dialog—keep it up!

    Not my cup of tea
Bunch of guys feeding of their own egos and with not too many or few constructive things to say. You'll hear "me", "my", "I" a lot from people that are not really making any difference in our profession

    Constructive Critisism for Cormac Phalen
I have listened to 80% of the catalog and after the RKTEKT Episode #92, I have decided to write a review. Not of the Archispeak podcast itself (which I fully support) but, of the host Cormac Phalen. I have unfortunately on several occasions have had to shut off the podcast because of Cormac's various tenancies I find off putting. Maybe it is subjective but, I find these tendencies common amongst of people of poor outlook or perhaps weak character. These include, filler words (um, like, you know,), getting upset at the established order (Architecture as it is today), cursing extensively to over take a conversation. I could continue but, my intention is to be constructive. Using filler words while you think of your next thing to say is extremely distracting and takes away from your point, which most often is a personal opinion and only of your experience without including generalities or expanding on various related topic's. Regarding the RKTEKT Episode and your second tendency I mentioned above, you are not an Architect and that is why you feel how you feel and are upset at the things you are upset at. The NCARB test absolutely prepares you for practicing Architecture. It covers the minimal basis for Licensure. There is no experience that will replace the legal understanding of contracts and consequences of various actions. You can only learn/understand that from the examination. Your co-host's understand this very well and when they attempt to explain subjects of this nature (to you) you brush them off as if their words have no value. I've heard this, time and time again on a number of episodes. The experience that you have has a cap, and you've reached that cap. Nothing undermines growth like the human Ego. For you to ignore your co-host's wisdom and then tell a mid 20's graduate he or she is not experienced enough to be a licensed Architect is disingenuous to the next generation of Architects. Now that you are testing you are seeing that experience has nothing to do with the minimal requirements to become an Architect. That is the point of the exams, to make you think like an Architect, right now you think like a project manager, experience only gives the ability to execute projects. Experience and the exams are oil and water, they can exist in the same container, they flow the same path if that container is tipped over but, they are not the same liquid. Becoming licensed is one of the most challenging tasks one can take on and the way you spoke about it with such hubris and arrogance was telling that you are not qualified to speak on the subject. Architect's are in demand and the supply is being stifled because of points of view such as yours on the RKTEKT episode. The next generation of Architect's is coming, you will be their elder but, not their superior. Eventually these mid 20's "inexperienced" kids will be stamping your drawings. How are you going to feel about that? Are you going to whine? And say you have more experience, or are you going to buck up and get your license like you should have done so long ago? Look, my intention behind the hard words above are meant to be constructive and give a path for those around you to bring up these topics and progress your thought process. Everyone needs tough love, take a good look in the mirror Cormac, check your ego and open up to what your co-hosts Evan and Neal have to offer. You are obviously very beloved by them and supported by them.

    Great conversations!
Started listening a few weeks ago, I'm up to episode #70! You guys keep me company during my 4.5 hour round trip commute. Looking forward to catching up to the current episode so I can join the conversation!

    Thanks for your shows guys!
Thank you for the valuable content. Your shows provide authentic and intelligent insight into the profession. A great dialogue between 3 professionals who practice (each in slightly different areas of) architecture, work environments, and regions of the country. Thanks for keeping it real!

Nice to hear talk about our profession
A podcast that discussed the state of architecture from the inside from a goup of architects that represent different corners of the field. The fact they have a sole proprietor, someone that works in a med size firm and one from a larger firm on the panel brings the diversity of perspective to the discussion that makes ir continuely interesting and informative. My only suggestion is that they should find a female voice to add to the panel, I think it would really be a positive addition to the group. Still, great podcast for us Architects. MPS Topsham Maine

    Makes my commute worthwhile.
I really enjoy the topics discussed. They are helping me explore opportunities as I start a residential design studio. Keep up the good work!

    My Podcrack
This is real and refreshing. They talk about the positives of design, the ins and outs of the profession, but also don't shy away from the headache-causers or sore subjects. I look forward to every episode release.

    Great content and great dynamic.
Archispeak is the only architecture podcast that I know of that includes a regular cast of 3. That brings a great dynamic that sets this show apart from the others. Neal, Evan and Cormac are always share interesting content about the profession. Well done guys! - Steve Ramos

    Entertaining, Informative, and Helpful
I love the show. Being only a year out of graduate school, I am always looking for resources to grow my knowledge about the profession and stay up to date with discussions and news related to the industry. This podcast keeps me "in the know" and provides insight into architecture from professionals that have a bit more experience than I do. As an added plus, it is easy to fit into your schedule no matter how busy you are.

    Engaging
These guys have quite a bit of knowledge under their belts between the three of them and I enjoyed listening to a couple of episodes so far! The only reason it is not a 5 star review is due to the audio, which could use some work.

    Unrushed
I've listened to quite a few episodes. I enjoy the unrushed, sometimes meandering, nature of the conversation. WIth three hosts and sometims a guest, the exploration of topics is often rich and indepth. That's a breath of fresh air as other podcasts I listen to struggle to cover the topics at hand in some arbitrary 47 or 51 minutes. Keep up the good work. Thank you.

    An Essential Architecture Podcast
Can't remember when or how I first stumbled into Cormac, Evan and Neal, but I am glad I did! I have listened to every chat they have had, some multiple times and I continually look forward to their next casual conversation on all things architecture. These three talk like I do, on subjects that I often think about...such a refreshing and down to earth way to approach to the profession. Keep chatting away boys, I'll be listening. Just wish Evan would stop refusing to say someone's name three times! #50!

Fantastic show content delivered through accessible conversations
I have been a listener for the last few episodes, and I have to say this is one of my favorite podcasts. The hosts' experience in the field shows in each show, but their conversational manner helps makes the insights and morsels of wisdom more accessible. Keep up the good work!

    excellent
As a sole practitioner, this is a great way to keep up with the profession and hear other viewpoints on practice and design! Keep it up! Just listened to #36. Great topic.

    It is so entraining!
I look forward to this podcast. I am subscribed to several architecture podcast, and this is the on I enjoy the most! The mood they create is very casual but yet very informative. The three hosts also each have a unique personality but mesh extremely well with one another. Keep up the good work guys!

    Hits the spot!
I am a practicing architect and this podcast hits a nice sweet spot of talking about real-life events related to the profession while also keeping a frank and casual atmosphere. The quality of the conversations that the hosts have is great and the subjects keep my interest. I've only listened to a couple of the most recent episodes (30 & 31) and I'm hooked and am looking forward to listening to more episodes, both past and future.

    We're not alone
Glad to know that we are not alone in our experiences. Thought we were the only one's suffering from Murphy's Law, Karma, and over-intellectualism!

    Great Job on #21
Just finished #21... I cannot remember who said. "They get more professional development from talking to other Architects, manufactures and even the pod cast. This was a wonderful observation. I have always thought the same. You guys are says things that are inner dialogues I have with myself. Thanks for taking on this endeavor. Great Job!!!

    Great Podcast
I've worked in architecture since 2002, in masters program and school prior to that. These podcasts are so much what i've seen in the offices I've worked in. Love to hear their "war stories" and get some valuable insights from other professionals along the way.
  • Angelobanjo
    Excellent!
Really enjoy these guys - there is a lot that goes into the profession of architecture -some of it is creative and rewarding, while a lot of it is challenging, stressful, and prone to office politics and egos. Evan, Neal, and Cormac do a great job on explaining how to get a little perspective and ways to keep it fun each and every day.

    What Architecture is Really Like
Archispeak is a fantastic conversation between 3 guys who are immersed in their passion … architecture. I enjoy the realistic presentation of what our profession really is.

A must listen for students and interns, a great - that's what I've been saying - listen for professionals. Excellent topics, interesting conversation. Thank you Neal, Evan and Cormac for bringing a fresh, realistic view of the industry to the masses.

    Fresh take on our industry
I want to thank the three of you for introducing our profession to Itunes as I am struggling how to intiate that discussion with the public on the role of the architect. Most of your first few podcasts is helping with the image that we are all not wearing black turtlenecks and blazers but truly solving problems of our clients and thus helping your towns, cities, etc. I look forward to hearing the rest and would love to interact more with you over twitter. Thanks, Wayne (@Broadfield_AIA)

Great laid back conversation about architecture!
I've loved hearing Cormac, Evan and Neal talk about what it is like to be an architect (although sometime they make it sound over-glorified :) I wish I had this info back when I was starting out. Thanks guys!

    Essential Listening
If anyone has ever wondered what Architects do and who they are, just listen in. The conversations and experiences that are shared by Evan, Neal and Cormac are things you will never learn in school and what most architects don't tell you. Refreshing, non-sugar coated, honest conversations about architecture and architects.

    Quickly Becomming a Favorite
The casual conversation and candid cadence of these podcasts were kind of disorienting at first, as in it was hard to know which co-host was speaking. Then I realized that was the element that makes Archispeak so tangible, like walking up to a casual conversation at a garden grill out. About half way through the second episode, I became a bit more familiar with Cormac, Evan and Neal’s styles and voices. After listening to the third, I can confidently say that listening to Archispeak is like happy hour with three close colleagues to talk shop and wander in to diversions (comic book characters and art)…and there’s nothing like that going there while listening in the daily pursuit of running an architecture firm. It helps get through the CADD Jockey Super Hero days as well as the Quickbooks Crunches. Get it NOW!

    Telling the Stories
I'm all about telling the "Thousand Stories of Architecture" so I like a format like this where three experienced, articulate Architects can discuss the issues of the profession in depth. I hope non-designers are eavesdropping so they'll better know, understand and value Architects and Architecture. Keep up the good work, guys!

    Architecture Truth!
Great work gentlemen! I almost feel that you have been inside my own head and speaking for me! I have enjoyed both of the podcasts and the topics. Keep them coming! Funny how we all seem to be dealing with the same issues regardless of the type of projects, region of the country or world and differences in the offices. If more people that were not in this profession could listen in and see that most of us are not the 'Ivory Tower' types we would all be so much better of.

Architects are real people too - This is proof
The effort to provide a real-world, real-architect podcast has been realized. These three guys discuss great topics and it's not all Architecture. Real life gets its fair share of time, as it should. The first two podcasts were great! Looking forward to following this one closely and will be excited to see what is discussed in the coming episodes of Archispeak. Thanks for the peek into the profession to Evan, Neal & Cormac.

    Telling it how it is
Great start to the podcast! Just a couple of guys with some experience under their belt, telling it how it is. Found myself nodding my head throughout the podcast, easily able to relate with what they were talking about. Keep up the good work!

    Architectural Intern
This podcast discusses the essence of architecture and being an architect. It focuses on the things not taught in school or learned by working in an architecture firm, but essential to understanding this profession. "Archispeak" is making an 'invisible' profession visible.

    Smart and Interesting
A smart and interesting take on architecture and related topics.

    Excellent!
Great to hear a discussion about architecture that doesn't make me need a nap! As any architect can attest, there are plenty of people out there who can drone on and take any fun out of the profession. Looking forward to hearing the podcast develop! Good work guys!!

    Real Architects, Real Talk
Great job guys! Interesting listening for both architects and the general public. I think you'll garner a great following. I believe there are more 'working architects' in the profession than 'starchitects.' Keep up the good work. Just remember, when you go on the road tour I get first dibs as the tour bus driver!
  • John Cruice
    Information Architect & Architectural Student
This is a breath of fresh air for anyone interested in what design really means. While the hosts are architects, the discussion applies to anyone in any design profession. Everything we interact with on a daily basis was designed by someone. This podcast clears up any confusion of what an architect is and what value they provide without the need to make others feel dumb. Good design is simple solutions for complex problems. I found the frank discussion to be enlightening by how it addresses common misconceptions. I'm looking forward to the next show.

This is a tremendous first podcast and a must-listen offering for those in the Architecture profession or considering the profession. An insightful look into the role of the Architect, what to expect if you are getting into the field and what you can offer others as a professional. I don't normally listen to podcasts, but will eagerly wait for the next one. Give it a try - a well conceived idea!
