I am obsessed with pharmacology and ethnobotany and this show is amazing!!

This is a great and fascinating podcast! My question is: how does this guy sound exactly like the Science Friday guy??? I cannot believe it is not the same person!

Psychoactive is a serious and well balanced exploration of the things we consume to change ourselves for the better and sometimes worse. But you’ll be better off having listened to this podcast It brings the best thinkers, activists, officials and unofficials to give a multifaceted perspective to help us understand this thing called DRUGS.

I honestly didn’t expect this to be as high quality as it is. Definitely worth a listen.

Just the fix I’ve been looking for. Intensely interesting.

Refreshing to hear about substance history from a more objective and honest lens. I work in substance use treatment and use what I learn here frequently.

This podcast had open a new world to me and had changed my perspective on drugs. As a young adult who has been struggling with really figuring out what I want in the future; I have decode that one of the things I want to do is be an activists to legalize drugs, especially for therapy as we know that talk therapy only work for 50% of people. Thank you Ethan!!

I’m so sad to hear about the break happening in January. This podcast is so well done and offers to much insight from huge names in addiction science, drug policy, etc. I use episodes as homework assignments in my undergraduate and graduate courses, because the information is digestible and interesting. Students always have positive reviews! I really hope that Psychoactive is supported for many more years to come.

I really love this show. I’m currently getting my Masters in mental health counseling and plan on getting certified for MDMA therapy so this show really enlightens me on the benefits of other substances. Such great guests, too!! Really hope it comes back somehow, maybe with like a patron of sorts.

Overall a great podcast, however I find it’s a little slanted towards psychedelics.

iHeart Radio and Protozoa Pictures would be in supreme remiss to halt their support for this phenomenal project. Nadelmann’s curiosity and skepticism brings critical sociopharmacological questions to the fore in a concise and digestible format which is crucial to the inoculation of society’s curiosity about ethnobotany and pharmacology. Because of Psychoactive, Thursday has become my favorite day of the week. My only critique is that we need *more* content. Comparing this show’s audience metrics to any other genre of podcast is remarkably shortsighted and disregards the voracity with which this audience consumes Nadelmann’s output. It will never be as “popular” as a podcast which features celebrity guests, but it is NOT SUPPOSED to compare. This is a podcast for the intelligentsia, for the critically difficult-to-reach demographic of 18-34 year-old males, and for those who seek to broaden their understanding of humanity writ large.

I just heard that this podcast is not long for this world. What a pity. It’s my favorite of the psychedelic podcasts, with interesting guests and fascinating topics.

This is an excellent podcast for those interested in a rational discussion of psychoactive drugs. I’m a long time listener who’s concerned about where the show will go next now that its support has been pulled. Here’s hoping Ethan gets others to support this important endeavor!

Psychoactive is a comprehensive podcast about drugs that truly respects its audience by providing a curated roster of topics and guest speakers on a rich & diverse range of topics. The podcast introduced me to new knowledge on kava, khat, Persian history of drugs, ibogaine, kratom, among others from experts on the field.

I will very much miss this podcast. Looked forward to it every week.

I hope this podcast can find its audience. I get why it’s not a great fit for iHeart and that’s probably not the best vehicle for this content anyway. It doesn’t fit in super well next to the 500 podcasts about psychedelics that are super woo woo and spiritual and inevitably corny. This one is more focused and real and diverse. and that’s exactly what I like about it. Episode on khat? Awesome, you aren’t finding that anywhere else. The audience for this is out there.

This podcast covers all aspects of psychoactive drugs. Ethan Nadelmann, the host, knows more about the subject than anyone anywhere…yet he takes a light hand, steering the podcast in a thoughtful direction while letting his guests take center stage and share their specialized knowledge. This is the best podcast ever on the the social, chemical, legal, historical issues related to drugs.

Having said this is not a recovery show doesn’t mean it’s not good it’s very insightful and informative other drugs that it covers and the experiences of the guests are teaching and learning experiences that listen to just looking for recovery because you’re not gonna find it but that’s not what is here for enjoy it is worthy of the stars that I gave it

I am on my fifth episode -picking randomly & really enjoying the host/guests & subjects. Interesting on alot of levels-its like a history/psychology/drugs mix.Whats not to love about that!?

This podcast is fantastic, and so is the host! Ethan puts the psychoactive topic together so brilliantly. I thought I was well informed on multiple psychoactive drugs, but I didn’t know nearly as much as I thought I did. Ethan is so smart, and talks to the listener in a way for us common people to understand. I really like the history you provide on these different subjects. I’d also like to add that the host has a nice voice, and at 1-1/4 speed I find it to be perfect. Keep it up Ethan…you’re great at this! Respectfully Mike Melatti

Excellent interviews with expert researchers and reformers across the world answering complex questions about sensible drug policy.

The ads are enough to make me not want to listen to this. They should find another way to raise their money or at least have more benign sponsors.

Easily one of the best podcasts currently covering psychedelics (among other things). The host is informed, concise, and engaging and the guest list is really solid. I only wish there were more episodes.

I LOVE this podcast. Whether you’re coming in agreeing with the views on drugs or not, or you’re somewhere in between, Ethan does a great job of explaining both the proper take on drug use/drug policy and the reasons behind why it is the proper approach in a logical, comprehensive way. I highly recommend this not only to people that are fascinated with drugs, but also to people on all sides of the spectrum.

Incredibly thoughtful and well-rounded show on diverse topics all connected to drugs. Whether the conversation is political or personal or scientific, Ethan does a great job at keeping it engaging and challenging our assumptions. Highly recommend.

If you’d like to learn about drugs from a scientific standpoint, don’t bother with this podcast. You get “alternative medicine” in the sense of unproven claims and personal anecdotes on how drugs are greeeat. Acid cures allergies! MDMA (ecstasy) saves marriages! Caffeine is the worst drug, don’t look at how heroine is physically addictive in the corner over there. Don’t forget to buy Andrew Weal’s “Mega-Mushroom Weightless Hydrating Mousturizer” on the way out.

I’ve had a chance to listen to him before, now I get to hear more in dept information on which i find extremely valuable and uplifting at most.
